My wife and I just bought a 97 Maxima. It had gold badges on it and we both wanted them off. I got them off with no problem, they practically fell off. I have now run into this problem.
All of the residue from the badges has completely come off. I think the owner before didn’t wash around the badges very well because there is a thick layer of grime and dirt build up around where the badges used to be, that I have a hard time scratching off. I washed the area with Dish Soap, I used Clay Bar, I used Meguiars Paint Cleaner, I tried Sticker-Off. Any suggestions? I was thinking maybe a buffer might do it.

I'd give the buffer a try with rubbing compound if it comes out with that, you will need to use a polish to get out the swirl marks left by the rubbing compound.

You could also try wet sanding the area.

i always use lighter fluid for adhesive residue or 3M Adhesive remover but it sounds like this is more than that. could it just be fading around the edge? if so, you might be out of luck short of painting, unless you just replace the emblems with some new silver ones or something similar to cover the area.

Goo Gone, Goof Off, or any similar product.

Thanks for the help. I will try Goo Gone and the like.

We will be putting silver badges on it, I just want to make sure that the trunk looks as good as possible.

Thanks Again!
