: So where do you guys mount amps at?
MorningZ 08-17-2007, 08:33 AM Hey everyone... first post here
Just picked up an '06 the other night and am looking everywhere inside trying to come up with some valid idea of where the world to mount my Kicker KX700.5 amplifier.... ideas? thoughts? pics?
Locating a location for the sub is also a problem, but i have been considering getting the JL Audio "Stealthbox" (http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_stealthbox_detail.php?fit_id=1404) (it's $540 at a local dealer, ouch), so that's less a problem
For other plans, i can now take my Image Dynamic HLCD's out of the closet and use them in this new ride for me... I also have a set of Kicker slim mount 8" mid-basses that I am going to try to slip in the front doors..... for the source, i have been going back and forth between a Pioneer D3 (i've got the D1 in my Integra and love it except for the iPod interface, which is supposed to be 1000x better) and going "in car PC"
**** Edit *****
I should have noted i was looking to keep full utility functionality of the vehicle.... i did find this excellent topic (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34605&highlight=stealthbox) while looking for Stealthbox talk.. seems like it's do-able to mount the stuff on the bottom of the rear seats and they can still go up and down
box-E 08-17-2007, 09:00 AM Welcome to the nuthouse:twisted:. I have my 400w Pioneer amp under the drivers seat, perfect fit:D. As far as subs go, how big do you need? You can get the storage bin for a LX that goes where the factory sub is and build it out for a 10", or some folks have cut out the storage bins on each side in the back and done custom buildouts there. D3 ipod interface is really nice:-D. Drew:)
CoffeeDragon 08-17-2007, 12:02 PM I've got mine under the rear driver side seat with the wiring running under the floor and coming out through the strut access panel on the side under the seat. I'm not sure the size of your amp, mine is just average sized with covers mounted over both ends to conceal the wires. It fits great and there's just enough space on top to allow for air circulation.
Just be careful if you're mounting an amp under either of the front seats that you're using a newer amp with a higher efficency rating. Older, less efficient amps get pretty hot if they don't have proper air circulation which can shorten their life, blow fuses and in some cases cause a fire hazard. I don't believe you should have a problem with a Kicker amp but if you end up putting any more in your E, keep the heat in mind.
SCREWaerodynamics! 08-17-2007, 12:08 PM Here's my Flickr set that shows where I mounted my amps and did some other stuff. I have two that were mounted in the back above the cubbys. There's still clearance for the seats to be folded down, although you lose the cubby space (which I never used anyways)

MorningZ 08-20-2007, 07:15 PM Thanks for the ideas so far, it's appreciated
I did today order the Stealthbox, pick it up on Saturday
For an amp, i already have a Kicker KX700.5, which is a big ol' amp, so under the front seats isn't an option...
I have one idea, an idea I used on my GMC Jimmy years ago, that I may try, other wise i will albiet grudgingly, put it in plain site as recommended on the post right above this one.... guess i'll have to spend the $$ and get the hatch cover thing :-)
N.W.Eowner 08-20-2007, 08:54 PM Just how large is your Kicker amp? I installed a 14.25"x9.25"x2.1" four channel amplifier under a front seat. Had to remove some heater duct and rubber floor material but it wasn't too difficult.
h_2_o 08-20-2007, 09:58 PM just helped out a fellow element owner and he currently has his on top of his sub box, but probably before it is all over will end up on the sides in back.
dancetiludrop 08-20-2007, 11:48 PM aerodynamics....how did you attach your amp mounts to the E??
Wanting to do something similar with mine.

i like how you mounted those and the location, one quick question. is it mounted to any metal on the other side or just mounted through on the plastic with the mounting bracket/board you made?
wastedonanime 08-21-2007, 09:52 AM Have my amps shoved under the rear seats. Unfortunately that was my only option given they are heat monsters and way too big to fit anywhere else with out completely hacking up the interior. It's become a big pain and really did impact the ability to fold the rear seats up and slide things in. I would not recommend that location if you want to maintain full functionality. BTW, are they really charging you that much for a stealthbox? >.< If you decide to go with the AVIC-D3, you can do a quick 'hack' job with the wiring harness to disable the 'safety' features and have full functionality while the car is in motion. If that is any more of a selling point : )~
perfdata 08-21-2007, 09:57 AM I'm going to mount them on the spare tire cover (reinforced, of course) with a false floor above them. No pictures yet, just been thinking about it for a long time.
