: West Michigan get together?
heated_kritter 08-22-2007, 12:23 PM I am trying to find out if there is a West Michigan group.
Any other E-owners in the West Michigan area want to get together?
I recently purchased my E* last month. (AWD, EX, MT, Galapagous Green) I enjoy driving it so much!
gisele 08-22-2007, 12:40 PM Woo-hoo! Congrats on the E and welcome to the EOC.

04Galapagos 08-22-2007, 01:27 PM Were in Kalamazoo and could easily go for a meet. I'm west side rep to Great Lake's SHO Society and we use to have weekend Lunch meet's every other weekend and then every other meet we would switch between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo so we all had a chance to have it close to us. Those have dwindled down a bit because we mostly have young kids in that group and they seam to like to sleep in so maybe we could start something with the west Michigan people?
~Mandy~
BXGR8R 08-22-2007, 01:30 PM Not techinally in Michigan, but my heart is. I would love to get together we some fellow E-owners.
Anyone ever go to Reddimak's in New Buffalo?
dancetiludrop 08-22-2007, 06:51 PM Last fall we had a Fall Indy Meet.....will probably set one up again for Oct. All neighbors are welcome and even encouraged to come....the more E's we can get in one place the better!! :D
flatlander 08-22-2007, 08:04 PM I live in SE Michigan so don't qualify. I know you West Coast folks like to stick your nose up at us.;-)
For me if the timing is right I could pull off joining a quick meet. Unfortunately at work we just launched a new instrument and sales are picking up. Thus things are starting to go nuts creating unpredictable schedules for everyone. I would play by ear if you would accept an East coaster.

that would be great! We'd be up for that.

This is a good post because this is how we could loosely get started trying to meet and eventually do something with a little more planning. Unfortunately for me I need to be in St. Louis Friday evening and Saturday all day for meetings. I hoped to run over to the local St. Louis E meet but the boss said no cutting early. period.
I've heard the metro cruise in GR is fun.:-)
dancetiludrop 08-23-2007, 11:16 PM Probably about mid Sept. we'll be laying out some plans for the 2nd Annual Indy Meet.
Last year was the first one and we had about 6 Elements come out. This year we'd love to double that at the least.

We can easily make that one....

we were all ready for this one with my SHO group but then had a family thing planned for the same day so we're hitting that instead. The Metro Cruise is a AWESOME event... it's huge if someone hasnt been there before. It's kinda nice that you can stop anywhere on 28th street and just watch it all go buy too. I went last year with about 18 other SHO's and we had a blast.
I'd love to start something for this side of the state for us E owners.. (east sider's always welcome) I know from my other club it's kinda hard to always find a neutral spot to join both side's of the state plus the rest of the club but maybe we could pick a weekend and host something at our home. I did that last labor day and it worked very well we had almost 20 cars from Michigan, indiana and ohio. We supplyed the meat and everyone else brought a dish to pass. Always something to think about. I ahvea huge parking lot across the street from me and if anything needs to be organized I'm happy to help.

Elemental Glory 09-11-2007, 08:37 AM i am always ready. If anyone in the area needs some help with mods that i have already completed i have no problem giving a hand!!! I would not mind starting some sort of mod get togehter or a mini meet soon I will do some research. I will get back to you.
Elemental Glory 09-11-2007, 08:46 AM What if we do a mini meet deal at Midland Park in Ross, MI. I have never been there but it is a nice little park on Gull lake. It is pretty close between Battle Creek and Kazoo/portage. Lets here some feed back and other ideas. Once we have some ideas then we can plan the date. I am so excited.
dancetiludrop 09-11-2007, 12:18 PM If you guys are interested, we're having a mini meet on Oct. 20th at Turkey Run St. Park.....hope you all can come down.

bullseyetenx 09-18-2007, 04:03 PM A meet at a park or the fall color tour i recommended on the other thread i'm game for either.
heated_kritter 09-19-2007, 03:08 PM I'd love to drive down there but unfortunately I have to work.....But I am interested to find out if anyone wants to get together a little bit closer up here in Michigan
bullseyetenx 09-19-2007, 10:13 PM I have been saying a fall color tour... on Oct 13th... Im going myself if I have to...lol here is my post from a lil while ago
"OK here is what I have come up with... starting from say meijers or walmart in Plainwell we go north on 10th st. to 84th st. then hop over to 131 north to blow out the carbon, hehehe to 44th st in Grand Rapids. From there we head west towards the big lake. Once there we hang a left and head south on lake shore drive. Once we hit Holland and lake Macatawa we cruise around it looking at all the expensive homes there and the fall colors of course... then continue south til we pick up blue star hwy and head into Saugatuck for lunch at the Butler. They have pretty good burgers there and c o c k t a i l s too!!! Then back out to blue star highway south to South Haven. There we hang another left and head east towards Kalamazoo. We hit Drake road in Kalamazoo and head north to Plainwell to our starting point. Look the route over on your own maps n see wht you think... my map program says its just shy of 160 miles. Heck we could all fill up at the Meijers when we start and fill up again at the end of the cruise to see how we did on fuel economy just for fun... I know I will be doing that... Oh another thing we should all bring along our lil family frs or gmrs radios so we can talk to each other while under way just in case someone needs to make a pit stop or take pics along the way... ok lets do this thing... I'm thinking on the 13th... what say ye good folk of the EOC???"
BXGR8R 09-20-2007, 11:07 AM I would love to join in for a fall color tour. I like the route suggested too.
heated_kritter 09-20-2007, 12:13 PM Sounds good to me!! How many others are planning to go?!? What kind of radios were you talking about?
(05GGMawdMTex)
bullseyetenx 09-20-2007, 05:21 PM The radios I'm talking about are the family radios... you know you buy them at whatever big discount store they ussually say something like 2 mile or 5 mile range on them... Cobra, Midland those are some of the manufacturers... here is a link that tells you about them...

Now we need a time to meet in plainwell. Since its a saturday I vote for 10AM, not too early and if all goes well we will be back in plainwell in the early evening or late afternoon... no specific time to finish just play it by ear...
As far as how many people want to cruise it looks like its me, BXGR8R and heated kritter that have said they would like to ride...
04Galapagos 09-21-2007, 10:52 AM That would be perfect, we already have radio's like that so were ahead of the game that way... Plainwell route is also good. were just starting to turn alittle down here so hopefully in a few weeks we'll have some rich colors. If anything it will be a nice cruise and meet!
~Mandy
bullseyetenx 09-21-2007, 01:12 PM Exactly, so are you number 4 then 04galapagos? If so this is sooo cool we have an 04 GGM green, 05 GGM, 07 ABM blue and my 07 TM orangeutange, we need more colors... lol.. lets make a traveling element rainbow on our fall color tour.
Does anyone else have any other favorite places they might like to stop to eat lunch along the way? I was just suggesting the butler but we can go to another spot if you all like... heck we could even do a picnic thing if everyone brings something... that could be even more fun. We could do it in saugatuck by the water if there is room for us to park near by or maybe at a park. Allegan county park is just south of saugatuck. Tunnel park near holland, pets are allowed on leashes from oct 1 to april 30. There is holland state park (ottowa beach). Kollen park in holland also. Thems all the ideas i have 4 now..
BXGR8R 09-21-2007, 02:58 PM Redimaks is great for burgers, in New Buffalo. Just throwing it out there.
bullseyetenx 09-21-2007, 05:17 PM I agree 1000000% but,... the current planned route for the color tour wont take us that far south... plus they are closing soon for the season arent they? I dont remember when they close for the season but its close to that time im sure...
BXGR8R 09-21-2007, 05:44 PM i knew the route didn't get that far. but that is the only place I know on the west side of MI:)
heated_kritter 09-22-2007, 09:16 AM I'm not familiar with the restaurants in south haven but i've heard that some overlook the lake
Heathr
05GGMawdEXmt
bullseyetenx 09-22-2007, 08:00 PM I can look into it a bit more... the Butler in Saugatuck is on the water (bay or river or something) Not the big lake though ... Ill check n report back ASAP...
bullseyetenx 09-25-2007, 05:51 PM Did everyone get my private message about the chilli cook off???
04Galapagos 09-25-2007, 06:09 PM I e-mailed you back about it, It sounds good to us...
~Mandy& Gabe
bullseyetenx 09-28-2007, 07:32 PM 04... you guys are the only ones to say you are in so far... maybe you should try to poke n prod the other members in michigan to speak up so we have an idea of how many might ride on that sunday for the colors and the chilli or saturday just for the colors.
BXGR8R 09-28-2007, 09:45 PM I am an a holding pattern right now. The play that I am currently might be extended another week. Which means that I wouldn't be able to make it. But I won't know for sure for another week. When I know, you will know.
Elemental Glory 09-30-2007, 05:02 PM I am so in for the Fall drive meet starting in Plainwell. My wife and Dog are ready to go! I will need an exact address for the meeting location and I would agree with the meeting time of 9-10 ish I think the9 range is great! Keep me informed. Maybe we should open a voting board so we can find out the exact number of people interested!!!!!
04Galapagos 10-02-2007, 01:16 PM Gabe and I are in.... with one element!! we really cant wait!! Glad to see your wife and swiffer can make it too!!
BXGR8R 10-02-2007, 02:09 PM If it is early enough in the day I can make it. Just need to be back in South Bend by 6pm. So I could even make it for the start and leave when I needed to.
bullseyetenx 10-02-2007, 10:40 PM As far as a starting point if you get off of US-131 and go west you will come to a set of lights by a Meijer store. Turn right into the Meijer parking lot. I think that would be a good place to start. Easy to find and lots o parking. Any thoughts??? Oh i had a whacky idea... in an effort to get to know everyone I came up with the following idea... I call it "The Swap Meet" basically every half hour or so the passenger of your vehicle hops out and goes to the next vehicle in front of them. The first runs to the back of the line... or gets picked up by the last vehicle... this will FORCE us to interact...lol what does everyone think of that idea? As far as being back in IN by 6PM or so I think that is doable if we start at 9 or 10. I gues it depends upon how fast we drive and how long we stay for chilli. Can't wait, I'm counting the days.

I realized yesterday that's the weekend we already have planned to be childless!! as for the swap thing I don't know
bullseyetenx 10-03-2007, 07:28 AM Its just a thought... nobody is forcing anyone into anything... lol I just thought it would be an interesting way to meet everyone.
BXGR8R 10-03-2007, 08:28 AM I will be alone so I won't be able to do any swapping.
Elemental Glory 10-03-2007, 12:34 PM i think that my 8 month pregnant wife will not like the idea of riding with some stranger in another car. Not to shoot the idea down or anything. The only thing I would like to do is find a palce that we can parka dn check out each others E's.
I am excited. Getting my window visors on Friday so I will have them!! So excited.
04Galapagos 10-03-2007, 01:14 PM i think that my 8 month pregnant wife will not like the idea of riding with some stranger in another car. Not to shoot the idea down or anything.
I agree, sorry to shoot it down but no wife swapping here!!! I'm totally good with stopping somewhere and checking out each other's cars, we need Idea's on where to go next with ours, We also have a pair of after market fogs we want to install but don't have the guts to start chopping into the electrical to hard wire it. I guess I better get in there with a fine tooth comb and clean it out!!
~Mandy

yeha about the aftermarket fogs the only concern i have is howto rig up a bracket so the can attach in a similar way that the OEM ones do.
bullseyetenx 10-04-2007, 12:07 AM OK OK no hopping from car to car... it was just a thought... as far as checkin out each others rides... do we want a spot picked out up front or play it by ear? I think we will be parked by the chilli thing for a while if ya just wanna do it there... or before we take off just to make sure everyone who wants to come makes it...
heated_kritter 10-04-2007, 12:12 PM I'm not sure if it's going to be just me or if my boyfriend is going to tagalong with us....his loss if he doesn't....
05 GGM EX AWD MT
Elemental Glory 10-05-2007, 08:27 AM I need a Time estimate of how long this will take from Start to finish. I have two concerns if it is too much driving my wife probably won't be up to it. also the time lets me know if i can leave the dog. Thanks all.
Plus i got the vent visors on and the E looks great!
bullseyetenx 10-05-2007, 04:25 PM Ok first off we need to make the date firm. Saturday is the 13th no chilli cook off in Saugatuck. Sunday is the 14th, chilli cook off happening in Saugatuck. I'm easy either day is cool with me, the wife on the other hand being a cheese head wants to be home on Sunday to watch the packers on TV... but i digress, the whole thing according to my map program is 159 miles. From Plainwell to Grand Rapids should be less than one hour on the back roads. From Grand Rapids to the lakeshore about 30 - 40 mins. From lakeshore to Holland around Lake Macatawa... maybe 30 minutes or so. From there to Saugatuck (and chilli if we go sunday) another 30 mins or so. From there down to south haven 30 mins and from south haven to Kalamazoo another 30 - 40. So adding that up I come up with... about 4 to 5 hours... i guess it all depends on if we want to race or cruise or go the speed limit and if we want to stop at some cutesy lil fruit stands, antique places, parks or whatnot, heck the Fennville Goose festival is going on that weekend as well. Thats why I suggested the 2-way radios. Is this clear as mud now??? sat the 13th or sun the 14th, I have put together the route now you guys vote for the date. OK?
BXGR8R 10-05-2007, 11:14 PM I am in on the 13th. can't do the 14th.
04Galapagos 10-06-2007, 07:43 AM were in on the 13th, can't do the 14th unless we take our kids who really would'nt wnt to be in the car for 5 hours. TRUST ME we wanna do this without our kids!! We really dont need to stop at every litle place along the road but maybe cruise along and if we find something fun we can stop. Maybe along the way we can grab a bite to eat somewhere (not fast food) and get to know everyone. Just our .02
~Mandy and Gabe
bullseyetenx 10-06-2007, 08:56 AM Excellent. now everyone is happy!!! We get to cruise and the wife gets to watch her prescious packers. Next question is lunch, do we want to go to some place along the way just play it by ear or plan a location? I will look and see what is along the way and post a list here real quick.
bullseyetenx 10-06-2007, 09:11 AM OK map program says there are lots and lots of chioces... too many to list here... so lets see what kinds of foods might we be interested in trying. I know of a great little Vietnameese place in Grand Rapids. I also know of at least one super authentic Mexican restaurant and one Brittish style pub along the way. I just realized there is a super authentic Indian place as well... I guess I'm giving away the fact that I'm a foodie...
04Galapagos 10-06-2007, 10:13 AM Let's play it by ear on where to eat, as we go we'll see who's hungry and plan it as we go, We would just like to stay away from McD's an burger king type places. How many people do we have going at this point??

Anyhow, I sent out private msgs to a bunch of members whos profiles said they are from Michigan but no reply as to if they might or might not be coming out, otherwise your list looks right.
04Galapagos 10-07-2007, 02:14 PM So are we meeting at 9am at the meijer parking lot in Plainwell???
bullseyetenx 10-07-2007, 08:59 PM I think that is the plan:
9AM Saturday October 13th Meijer parking lot in Plainwell, say hi and wait for any late folks. Take off when we are ready.
Does anyone have GPS? I will set up my Laptop with GPS and map program but thought another GPS as a backup might be nice.
Don't forget your family radios.
BXGR8R 10-07-2007, 09:58 PM I have a Garmin Etrex Legend handheld
bullseyetenx 10-08-2007, 10:41 PM I have a Garmin Etrex Legend handheld
Does it show roads? Just in case mine freaks out or something...
Elemental Glory 10-09-2007, 07:33 AM the 13th is great and a PICNIC is wonderful! I am ao excited! It is about a 30 min drive for me to plainwell so i may be late but wait for me! If one of you would like to swap cell numbers on a PM i would be happy to so that we can stay in contact! So it is the 5 of us not too bad for the first time! I will bring my camera and Video Cam. Maybe we can recruit some new E's on the way!
I do not have a need to stop at stores or what not I am really just in it for the ride! Maybe a quick stop 10-15 here and there and Lunch is great for me!
I am so excited it will be real nice to meet some more of you.
9am plainwell Meijer I will be there!
04Galapagos 10-09-2007, 01:01 PM so should we bring our own lunch? that would be good for us we'll just pack something and that would actually be better then going out to eat. maybe we could just find a park or stop at the lake and eat. up to you guys though.
if we do it this way though let's just do a bring your own type of deal instead of trying to do a dish to pass type of thing. Maybe someother time we could do a bigger Midwest get together/tech meet and have a bon-fire or what not, our home is always open for something like this.
~Gabe and Mandy
bullseyetenx 10-09-2007, 05:48 PM Picnic sounds great to me... I think I have the perfect spot(s). One possibility, it was gonna be a surprise for all you guys... I have never been to this park but it sounds neat... is tunnel park just north of Holland. There is another one on lake macatawa and the last one is a park just south of saugatuck/douglas, we can decide along the way. OK brown bags it is. I cant wait... I hope the weather is nice.

Elemental Glory 11-08-2007, 08:38 AM So i found out what was wrong with my headlight..... I took off the front end and looked around and somehow i was missing one of my headlight bolts. So i went to honda and for 1.50 I will have to fix that soon!!!
Anything new with you all?

bullseyetenx 11-10-2007, 09:10 AM Nothing realy new to report here other than my synthetic oil has produced about a 4 to 5 percent increase in MPG... now if I could only keep my foot off the floorboard when accelerating I bet the MPG would be even better... My next synthetic additions will be to the front end and the tranny just to slicken things up a bit more. We are heading south for thanksgiving so I want to wish everyone a safe and happy turkey day in case I can't get on here from where we are going. Maybe we could plan on a January get together? Like runnin down to one the casinos or something for a few hours... just a thought.
