I have the stock EX head unit. When listening to MP3s burned at relatively high variable bit rates, tracks will eventually start missing sections. Skips forward at points. Saw a prior post regarding issues with what I thought were lower bit rate rips impacting timing and it sounds similar, but this is clearly audible, not minor. Haven't really been able to test this out to figure if it's just the VBR, or if the rate itself is the issue.
Anyone else notice problems like these playing MP3s?

Lots of the MP3 I have, and I have Alot, is VBR or ABR and I have'nt had any problems with it. Could it be the CDR? Have you tried to burn the files again to another disk or does everything you burn sound bad?
Just curious, What is "relatively high variable bit rates" to you?

My guess is the problem is filesize, not VBR. You might be getting a skip when the buffer overruns and has to refill again. I get that on my iPod with 320kB files of whole movements from a symphony or very long song. You really aren't hearing the difference between super high bitrate and normal bitrate anyway. I haven't been able to tell any difference between 192 VBR AAC and the original CD. Might as well make small files and fit more on.

Especially rolling down the road in an Element! Any qualitative difference at that level is washed out.

Just curious, Any way to upload a file to the web or would this get the RIAA people all bent?
When I mentioned "high bit rate", I was thinking anything 192k or above for VBR. Saw that last thread and read it as a problem with low bit rate files, but am now thinking that buffer overrun sounds more than feasible. Doesn't happen much in the first half of a standard length track. More during the end. Trying to go through the dealer or AHM on a problem like this would probably be more brain damage than I could handle. Compliments to whomever is trying to get some results with that other thread.
