: What's the latest on carwaxes these days?
Shmee 09-01-2007, 11:51 AM Anyone have any new and revolutionary carwax they could recommend for the 'E' or is my bottle of New Finish still up and current?
Waiting by the side of my dull and blemished Nighthawk black paintjob.

dancetiludrop 09-01-2007, 01:39 PM I have this stuff called Zaino that is awesome. There is a thread on here about it....try doing a search.
It's a bit expensive but 1oz. of the stuff will do 2 coats on your E with no problem. :D
DorchesterBoy 09-01-2007, 02:05 PM A lot of people on this forum have been getting good results with Turtle Wax Ice. It will leave no residue on your panels. It's definately worth a try.
mid"E" 09-01-2007, 04:10 PM Just picked up a bottle of Eagle 1 wax as you dry.Gonna give this a shot after i wash tomorrow.Heard good things so far.
Check the wax on/off section to see what others are using.

This stuff is zymol . IN my biased opinion it is excellent .but as wax primer[ if you will] then id use mothers polishes.
heres my offer as im a believer in ''kickdowns''
this stuff is a little priced out.im not going to ever go thru it as
its so concentrated.Heres the bad part,i got a new automatic knife that went off in my E tool bag and it stabbed the plastic . so i can duck tape it and send half of it or i can put half of it in another bottle [new plastic bottle] and send it reg. us mail. pm and let me know shmee.ill post e [nhb] of mirrored finish late night.

I used the ICE this weekend and it worked well!
rymo926 09-04-2007, 08:52 PM I'll take some zymol...1/4 bottle...
But really how is that stuff by itself?
I'm using mothers cara wax and even w/ a double coat it isn't that shiney. Smooth though.
I want a shiney look w/o the work like 10billion coats of wax.
Btw, zymol looks like toothpaste to me.
seaBreeze 09-04-2007, 11:34 PM Ice>>>>>>......

I like everything about the mothers line of products.
prices of mothers waxes, polishes and even the back to black
are imo reasonable.I also like the aromatic tolerancy i have to mothers
products.
But this'' ice ''is getting 100% thumbs up.Every single person that tries
the stuff has nothing but positives to support this'' wonderwax''.Last time i saw a revolutionary product for auto to do such a sweep of positive reviews is/was the ''absorber '' drying towel.
pm me info ,ill send you enough zymol for multiple applications .just dont go brushing your teeth with it.
now that i think about it you are rt it looks like crest w/ thinner consistance
04SunsetElement 09-07-2007, 08:10 PM I like mothers stuff too. Clay bar to Carnuba and finish with detailer. It's a ton of work, however you'll be pleased with the results.
As for the Turtle Wax Ice- I've used the ice on regular paint and found that it's very hard to take off. It smears pretty bad. With regular wax, just flipping the rag around will help but with the Ice my microfibers became "clogged" after doing just a few coats on the hood of my old truck. It did work quite well on plastic though, so I'm sure the quarters and fenders of your E will appreciate it.
I use a product on my E now called Trim Renu. Next time I get a hold of some I'll post a picture of the bottle. It works REALLY well.

It sounds like you're using too much. Ice is somewhat different in that it doesn't take a lot to provide coverage. You don't slather it on like traditional waxes.
soldierguy 09-09-2007, 03:52 PM Depending on what the paint looks like, I'll use one of a few products:
1. Meguiar's Cleaner Wax
2. Meguiar's ultimate quick detailer
3. Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax
I'll use the cleaner wax in the spring and fall to clean off any accumulated wax & other garbage on the paint. Works well, but does leave residue on black parts, and has a powerdery residue that requires dusting the car after waxing with a California Car Duster. Gotta clean out the doorjambs and all the body panel gaps as well...dust & residue can get in those spots that looks bad. But it is great for cleaning up the surface, helping to get rid of fine swirl marks, and is the first thing I grab (after a wash of course) if I get a scratch...most of the time it will make minor scratches disappear or at least not look as bad.
I just started using the NXT Generation Tech wax, and it looks REALLY good! This stuff is great...it doesn't leave anything on black panels, there's no powerdery residue, it goes on and comes off easily, and the shine looks fantastic...very deep and reflective, which isn't the easiest thing to have happen on a light-colored vehicle (my E is silver). One odd thing...it smells purple...kinda like purple grape drink...but that's better than the overly chemical smell of some waxes. I plan on using this between the twice-a-year cleaner wax, or in addition to a recently-applied coat of the cleaner wax. The instructions state very clearly to NOT leave it on unpainted plastic, but it's nearly impossible to avoid getting a little bit on the edges of the plastic bumpers & stuff...it came off with no issues and did not leave any residue.
I'll use the quick detailer for between-wax touchups, or if I get bugs all over the car. Looks great afterwards.
And I use a car duster every few days if need be. The first time I used one I had a dark-colored car, and it didn't seem to cause any scratches, so I think it's ok to use those just to get that fine layer of dust off the vehicle that accumulates over a few days.
miatahead 09-10-2007, 01:52 AM I use Klasse All-in-one and the Sealant. Great stuff. If you want to do concours type stuff, I've heard Klasse and Pinnacale is a great combo.
The NXT Tech stuff is pretty good, but I haven't had much luck with durability. Only lasts a month or so in my experience.
I don't do Zaino because the processs is waaaay too complicated.

ESquare 09-13-2007, 03:06 PM Hey all,
I have detailed cars for years and abosolutely LOVE a clean (swirl-free) black auto (to me the ultimate test for a product and process). I would vouch for the longevity and quality of the end result from Zaino products. In all honesty, the upfront cost of Zaino is a little steep. However, don't let the price tag scare you away, a little goes A LONG WAY. One of their 2oz "mixing containers" does 3 coats on my E. Also, the process is not any more complicated than any other wax unless you want to do the whole process (wash w/ dawn, claybar, wash, wax until desired shine [the results are really worth it]) - their waxes are the same as any other, just higher quality (better results, last longer, no residue, etc.). You wax your car when you want it waxed, simple as that. Check out my other post here (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37389). I go in to more detail about how important it really is (especially with black cars) to make sure you are washing and drying your car properly, not just waxing it. There are also pics in there of my E (almost 3 years old). Making it shine is easy, but keeping it shining (and scratch free) is much more thought involved.
Short synoposis: Make sure to rinse your washing mit frequently, only use soft, non abrasive mits and towels (100% cotton/microfiber towels & lambswool mits), wash and dry (without fabric softner) your mits and towels every other time you wash your car. Pretty much as easy as that. I also use a couple of buckets (because I try to not use a bucket once the water gets dirty) and separate mits for the upper and lower pannels (usually dirtier) and wheels. None of this is expensive or more involved, just fill an extra bucket, rinse your mitt a little more often, etc.
However, I would recommend using a clay bar or cleaner wax if your paint is already marred (swirl marks). **MAKE SURE** to read my other post and follow the directions (only rub the clay bar/cleaner wax/wax in the single direction provided, etc.) that I referenced and you should be able to easily get rid of your swirl marks and make your E look like a black diamond. Clay barring isn't necessary all of the time, but is highly effective at smoothing your paint and removing the very outter layer of contaminents and blemishes, making your paint feel like silk. Post some before and after shots and let me know if you have any questions. Glad to help.

funkytown 10-09-2007, 07:35 PM I have used Meguairs products on my previous Mazda 3 sedan. It was Titanium Gray Metallic in color and when I used the 3-step process on it the color just popped. It had lots of metallic flecks in the paint and after I finished it really looked super nice and lasted quite a while. I hear good things about the Turtle Wax Ice, and I think I'll try it, but I've always been partial to Meguairs products because they seem to keep the shine longer.
I know Zaino is super nice, but too expensive for me, and it's geared more for the "show car types" which I'm not. I also have Mothers Back to Black which I like to use the black parts. Good product.
Gr-Element 10-14-2007, 10:55 PM I'm lazy. You know those spray foaming tire cleaners? Yup. Works on my E's black plastic panels great with very little effort on my part.

I've recently discovered Collinite Insulator Wax #845. I don't have longterm experience with this stuff, but it shines like crazy and most reports say it really holds up well - 3+ months of beading. We'll see about that, but I prefer the look of Carnuba wax and this is apparently one of the longest lasting CWs available.
Update: 10/20/07
I waxed the E today with Collinite #845 and I REALLY like this stuff! It has a tremendous shine and it's as easy to use as any wax I've tried. I even used it on the black trim and it gives that a nice satin gloss. Plus, no white residue during wipe-off. Amazing stuff... even if it lasts only half as long as claimed. I hope no Pgh people read this. This stuff is hard enough to find without more competition.
macmini05 10-19-2007, 06:54 AM I had always used Meguiars. Ran out. Tried the Turtle Wac ICE people have talked about. Was not impressed at all. IMO, it is Armor All for the paint......Don't waste your $$$$$

That's funny. I can't knock the stuff since I haven't tried it, but that's exactly what I imagined it would be - a silicone-like shine. I do prefer a wax with depth.
BurnoutX 10-23-2007, 09:50 AM i don't trust anything from turtle wax. not even to put a little layer on my wheels to keep the brake dust off.
honestly, you get what you pay for w/ car care products(at least i've found). and most quality products, you can't find in any store and you gotta go hunting for it online.
it costs more, but it's WELL worth it(b/c your wax actually lasts beyond the first rain ;) )
