I am not inclined to have to order a hard wire kit for the Wayfinder from the US to pay the shipping and customs. I am considering getting a barrel plug from Radio Shack to use with some low voltage wire I have. Two questions;
1) Is there a spare fuse location in the internal fuse box I can use?
2) How might I wire it in from there? Is one leg of the fuse for the + lead and for the - lead? Or do I use the fuse for the + lead and a frame ground for the negative?
Thanks in advance.

Would this do the trick?

I was thinking along the same lines, but this one:

All you would have to do is find a constantly hot connection (+12Vbatt). Then you would place an inline fuse ASAP after the tap. The other connection would go to chassis ground (-). There are some "unused" fuse holes in the Element fusebox underdash. However, I don't know if they are wired at all.
Check out Radio Shack# 270-1204 and 270-1217.
If you need me to, let me know and I'll check out what size fuse they use in the Wayfinder hardware kit I bought.
Did you notice how small our fuses are? Maybe it's a new standard, but they seem about 2/3 the size of normal fuses.

I found a Littelfuse "Add-A-Circuit" kit that should fit the Element at Canadian Tire. Here's a link to the Littelfuse website.
It piggy-backs onto an existing fuse. It gives me a choice of a 3, 5 7.5 and 10 Amp fuse to put in the piggy-back slot as the fuse fot eh accessory. I am choosing the 3 Amp.
Any suggestions on a ground? I am thinking of using the bracket for the keyless remote as a ground.

Looks like you found something that is going to work! :D
Any ground attachment should work fine, the current is very low. Did you see the ground screw that is to the right of the fusebox, near the center console? It's gotta have a half dozen wires going to it! :shock: Use an ohmmeter between the keyless case and this bolt just to make sure the keyless case is grounded.
BTW- I noticed the power plug is polarized and right angle. These two things might create an issue trying to use a commercial adapt-a-plug. Would you be hacking the provided power outlet cord in this case? If so, make sure you check the wiring of the cord by using a continuity tester (ohmmeter or similar) to see whether the tip of the socket plug goes to the tip of the wayfinder plug or vice-versa before cutting ;)

Yes, I cut the cord of the supplied cigarette lighter adapter at the point where it starts to curl. The wires in it are coloured red and black, but I will check with my ohmmeter regardless. I didn't see the ground screw by the fuse box, but that would certainly be preferrable to grounding to the mount.
Not sure when I will get time to finish all of this, but I will keep you posted of the progress. I am trying to take pictures as I go along. :D
Thanks!
