Our dear friend and faithful companion passed on last night with the same dignity and grace that she lived her life. It was the last day you would want to spend with someone you loved. In the morning when my wife was out feeding the fish, Fido brought her the frisbee for a catch. Later, when I went out for a work break she brought the disk to me. She made a couple of show stopping catches with great air and full vertical extension. It was beautiful.
After work we brought her to the dog park. There. after running with the other dogs she did something a bit unusual, leaving her friends to lay by us. We thought she might not be feeling well and so headed home. Her walk back to the car was slower than usual and she showed a little difficulty getting in the E.
As the night went on her breathing became labored and it was clear she couldn't get comftorable. We realized her condition was declining and a trip to the vet wouldn't wait until morning. We brought her to the emergency animal clinic. After some brief treatment she went into cardiac arrest. The vet said she believed Fido had a large tumor around her heart that burst. She said the condition would not have been treatable had it been diagnosed earlier. Despite this greusome detail she did not appear to be in pain in the end and slipt away gently.
As you can imagine our sadness is overwhelming and we find it hard to imagine the days ahead without her to walk us and keep us honest. Hug your dogs a little tighter today for Fido and send her your good wishes to help her on her way.

I am so sorry for your loss. It sounds like you spent some good quality time together before she passed and you'll always cherish that.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
There is a poem called Rainbow Bridge meant for the loss of a pet:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

That's so tragic, Camerman. I'm very sorry for your loss. :-( Makes me tear up because such stories always remind me of my Samoyed, Buck, who I lost at 14. It is searingly painful to lose a great pup. They never live long enough.

Sounds like Fido's life was full of fun and she lived that way until the end.

I'll say a little prayer and ask Buck to say hello. Every Fido should have a Samoyed buddy -- on Earth and beyond.

Cameraman, my condolences to you and your family on the passing of your dear companion, Fido. Whether they are with us 1 or 20 years it is never enough. That said, someone once told me that the reason we do not have them even longer is if it hurts this much after that short a time, how would we ever deal with the pain if they were here even longer. Will keep you in our thouughts and prayers.

For what it's worth Cameraman, we've been there, the loss is something most people cannot comprehend. I do know that over time the pain of the loss gives away to fond memories of your 'friend'.

Have strength in knowing there are those of us around who understand, and feel the loss with you, even if we're 'online' we're still here for you and with you.

Our condolences for your families loss, it's truly tragic that these guys don't have a longer lifetime.

Dear Cameraman,

I'm so very sorry for your loss. There's nothing more painful than losing a family member.

I take comfort in knowing that there's the Rainbow Bridge where all of the animals can be together.

Hugs to you and your family.

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your companion and friend.
I too lost my buddy of 17 years this summer. I still hear her walking around the house, scratching on the door to come in or go out, shaking her head, rattling her collar, and sighing just before she would settle in for a nap. And sometimes I see her out of the corner of my eye.
Remember the good times.

Thanks SciJohn. I feel a little less crazy after hearing I'm not alone in my "delusions".

Our heartfelt condolences as well. We lost our best friend a couple of months ago in a similar, quick fashion. We were her humans for over 11 years, best dog we ever had, she is still missed. :-(

Our prayers go out to you and yours during this difficult time..........

I am truly sorry for your loss. Animals are so much more accepting than most humans...they love you and show you all the time....there's nothing like them...there's nothing wishy-washy, there's no agenda, no question as to whether it's appropriate to love, or to show affection. Keep those memories alive. She loved you, she did not hesitate to show it. Even at the end. God bless you and Fido.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's hard to lose a furry friend and companion.
It sounds like she had a wonderful life with you.
But Fido is never really gone because she will always be in your heart and in your memories.

They leave us. It is so hard. I just had to finally put a 16-1/2 year old beagle to sleep just a couple of months ago. Sometimes I still can't believe she is not here. This weekend I saw a beagle that looked just like her. All the markings almost identical. Reminded me again.

It will take some time. Don't worry about "getting over it". Just be glad you had your friend and he had you to love him.

BTW--He looks like a brittany with an undocked tail to me. And if he was jumping nearly vertical--he probably was britt (I have four). Heart problems are not particularly prevalent in the breed. If you enjoyed your dog, you might consider another sometime--when you are ready.
