I saw a couple of you all with Double DIN head units in your E's. I would like to upgrade mine to a DVD unit but I don't like the way the single DIN units look. What brand/model will fit the E? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I usually get my car audio equipment from Crutchfield but they don't have a DD model listed. HELP!!!! :D

I personally have the Kenwood DDX 7019, but any of Kenwoods double-din units will fit in the E...despite what Crutchfield says. Also, Dual, Eclipse, Jensen..etc., will fit.

Thanks for the info. I am actually looking at the Kenwood DNX7100 with DVD Navigation http://www.crutchfield.com/S-mMLo8gorssW/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=182350&I=113DNX7100 . Did you have to get a trim ring or any special adapters for the install?

I actually had a stereo shop install mine, so I can't say for sure if they used a special trim ring or not. I've pulled it out several times for sub and RCA splicing and it appears to me to have a regular trim ring on it. What I mean by regular is, possibly the trim ring it came with...because I don't see any tool marks to indicate "shaping to fit".

At any rate....the install should go easily for you and the hardest part may be the trim ring. If it becomes too troublesome, just take it down to the local stereo shop and see if they can whip something out for you.

And while you're ordering the DNX...order Kenwoods highspeed iPod cable, the KCA-IP300V (v= video)...it only works with certain generations of iPods, but its well worth it! I use it with my wifes iPod video and the thing is awesome!

I actually went to a stereo shop with a guy I work with at lunch today planning to "Just check things out". Well, I ended up having them install an Alpine (IVA-W205) DD head unit with DVD and ipod connections (adding bluetooth for my phone when it comes in stock and NAV when available [Called Blackbird II]), MB Quart reference separates in all 4 doors powered by a JL Audio 300/4 Amp, and 1 MB Quart 12" Sub in a ported box powered by a 500/1 JL Audio Amp. It rocks!!!

Rusty it sounds like a nice setup. Where were the amps and sub placed? How about some pics?

I will post some pics soon. The amps unfortunately had to be placed on the floor under the rear seats. There is no clearance (or a way for ventilation) under the front seats of an 07 SC. I considered mounting on the side panels in the rear cargo area but it was uneven and would have looked tacky. The sub box sits in the rear cargo area but I had them give me enough slack to be able to push it all the way forward, sit it on the tailgate, or even sit it on the ground.

As far as price to performance ratio, I gotta say the Pioneer AVIC D3:

Full Touch Screen
DVD
Rear Cam
Bluetooth
iPod Integration with video capability
XM w/ NavTraffic Option
Sirius

all for 714.95 shipped to your door from CompUPlus.

I have the Pioneer AVIC-D3, very easy install. I have a Pioneer 4chanel amp under the drivers seat driving the front speakers and the stock sub. Speakers are Pioneer as well. I used the 06 stereo dash surround because it has the same size opening top to bottom, the 07 is tapered at the bottom. Drew:)

Not to mention you can bypass the crippling features on the D3. :D

Pioneer AVIC-D3 vs. freestanding Garmin unit.

Here is my question. I have a MINI Cooper with a factory nav. My wife just got a 2008 Element LX. I was gonna buy her a new Garmin Nav to replace her existing Magellan. Our major complaint with the Magellan Roadmate is that it take a long time for the satelite to recognize where we are and re-route us when we need it. This is compared to my factory Nav in my MINI. I was told that Garmin's system is better in this respect.

House does a indash unit like the Pioneer AVIC-D3 stack up in this area. I love the clean look of the indash unit, but really what something that will have the best satelite response time.

We also had a 9" drop down screen added for my daughter in the rear:

We the shop installed the rear screen, I had them re-install the old dome light above the rear view mirror to act as a map light.
The rear dvd player came with light on it and works as a dome light also!!
