I saw this online, and I was wondering if anyone has tried this or something similar?

I did this on my old Honda. I took apart a transmitter and removed the switch. I then wired in my own momentary switch. Drilled a hole in one of the switch blanks and mounted the momentary switch there. For power I left the nine volt battery as the source (i.e. I didnt run a power wire from the car). Then I just tucked the transmitter under the dash. Worked great and didnt seem to have any impact upon the range.

I was thinking about that, but i wanted to have one with a couple buttons. One for the garage and one for my gate to my housing tract.

Try a search of the forum. Seems to me somebody rigged their garage to open when they flashed their lights. ...the names Bond...James Bond...

I don't know how well this might work (or how much work it entails), but the 05 and up Odyssey (and other Hondas, I'm sure) have the Homelink system in their overhead console. If you could get one that matched interior colors, after programming (read: point garage door opener AT the HL system, push button), you'd have a nice looking opener that looks like it came that way, and NO extra opener to go banging around your E.
Again, don't even know if that's possible, but it's an idea, anyway...... :D:D:???:

Sears used to sell this for the Craftsmen opener, don't know if they still do or not

Check out this link (http://www.re-vision.com/element-j/). Element J did that.
Very nice site.

I've done this in several vehicles. Never done the flashing light thing though. It looks pretty cool. May have to give it a try. I'd just be afraid of hitting my brights (since we live in the boonies with no street lights), and opening my door(s) by accident...
On my Eclipse I pulled the board out of the opener with battery, and mounted it inside the shift boot at the very bottom. On my Mustang I used a factory convertible top switch, and just soldered it across the switch inside the opener (ran the wires though a hole in the case). In my El Camino there is just a small momentary switch under the dash.
