: Alaska Bound!!
Alaskan_Toaster 09-26-2007, 02:19 PM Well, I've been talking about it for a while, IT'S FINALLY HERE!!! :razz::razz:
We are setting off on our 6300 mile trek from Georgia to Alaska. We are starting a little later than we planned, but are still getting off on the original day we planned.
If you would like to follow along, go to our Photobucket account below and take a free trip with us. Would love the company..... :-P
Unfortunately, our furry friend had to go back to the Rescue League, she did not adapt well to changes (read: freaked out) and we did not figure it was fair to force an animal that doesn't take to change very well to do just that for the next six months. PLUS, riding in a vehicle and sleeping in a tent for up to three weeks. We will look for another one once we get settled.
EDIT: Sorry for the delay in posting pictures, lots of quick road time to get to the relatives in the begining. Here's a couple at the start of the trip (gotta start off right):
perfdata 09-26-2007, 02:39 PM Good luck on your trip, it's a long one!
Your Photobucket link takes you to one picture only, do you have the link you your "bucket?"
Are you going to be travelling through the wonderful state of Colorado?
ORANGEE 09-26-2007, 02:51 PM Happy Trails !
Would like to see the pictures as you go - you need to repost a link to the Photobook acct
Sounds like a fun trip/move.........pack your long-johns
Tim Vance 09-26-2007, 02:52 PM Good luck and have a safe trip!!
Perfdata/Orangee - he only has one photo in the buck right now, but here's the link for the 'bucket': http://s220.photobucket.com/albums/dd208/knighthawk2000ak/Alaska%20Trip/
Sorry, I have to ask - Why would anyone want to go from Georgia to Alaska? You are aware that winter is starting, right?
_jea_ 09-26-2007, 02:55 PM I am so sorry to hear your furry friend did not adapt well. Your decision sounds right, because forcing her to travel with you wouldn't be very nice.
I will follow you on your trip for sure, so post as many pictures as you can.
Have a safe trip back home!:)

Thanks, can't say I've visited a photobucket site before. However, I have visited over 1,000 Element sites :D
lifeizgood 09-26-2007, 04:48 PM That's going to be an awesome trip. I'm a tad jealous and look forward to the updates & pictures.
Twilightzero 09-26-2007, 04:48 PM Have a fun trip indeed! Are you passing anywhere in the vicinity of MN by chance? :D
bullseyetenx 09-26-2007, 04:56 PM Could you post your intended route? Maybe if some of us are close to it we can hook up for a portion of the trip, maybe show you where the good spots are to eat, rest, catch fish etc...

GA to AK via MN?!
Boy would THAT be a wrong turn!
:-D
holden 09-26-2007, 09:18 PM The mother of all road trips! Stay safe! Have fun! Take pictures!

:-D
From GA? As the crow flies, it's not that far off! :D
And according to maps.google.com, the directions show them going right up the MN/SD border, so it'd be a simple thing to take off on I-35 at Kansas City and take it up to I-90, where I could meet them for lunch - and not even be really going out of the way!
Alaskan_Toaster 09-27-2007, 07:38 PM Right now, I only have the one photo. Will post more as the trip goes on.
Our itinerary includes:
GA to NC, NC to VA, VA to IN, IN to MI (through the UP), MI to WA, then straight to AK. Yes, it's the LONG way, but the relatives would not forgive us if we didn't visit (and, it's a very scenic route). It also gives me a chance to show off the new E.:cool:;-)
We will be going through the top part of the US, so, if that's your part, look for us. We will be the idiots with entirely too much stuff in the trailer, and a bright blue race car bed on top of my TRP E (and a car-top carriered blue RAV4). Pretty easy to spot. Will wave whenever I see another E!!
Thanks for all the support!! Will get new pix posted whenever I can..... :-P:-P
lifeizgood 09-27-2007, 07:49 PM ...NC to VA...
Please let us know if & when you'll be in our area, even if it's a pitstop for gas. :D
bullseyetenx 09-27-2007, 11:49 PM Do you have any idea on when you will be comming thru Michigan??? What roads will you be travelling on??? If you are close I would head out for a quick lunch or sumnthin...

I assume that you will be doing most of your tenting in the lower 48. Once you get north of, say, Prince George, in British Columbia you may find some pretty low overnight temperatures. There was snow in N.E. B.C. this week. 20 cm is forecast in Ft. St. John tonight.
Doable but probably not all that comfortable unless you are lucky with the weather.
North of 60? It could be quite iffy for camping.
Good luck.
hodgeman 09-28-2007, 01:14 AM Camping North of 60 is cool! Literally.
I've been camping in the E a bunch lately while moose and carribou hunting. Cold nights are great for camping as the bugs are all dead.
I can sleep cold. I can't sleep eaten.
I've been camping near the Paxson/ Summit Lake AK area.

It's not the eaten part that gets me, it's the actively eatING part I object to!
Alaskan_Toaster 09-30-2007, 08:51 AM Sorry for the delay everybody, had to travel to the first couple of places quickly. Added a couple of photos on the first post, as well as several in the Photobucket account. Plan to keep up with it better from now on out.......:razz::shock:
Thanks again for all the support
perfdata 09-30-2007, 08:59 AM My E goes to a lot of Starbucks also, I think it's something in the MT that takes them there :D
Thanks for the pics, drive safely.

Snow??!! BAH! We laugh at snow!! We have -25 degree bags, a solid tent, and so much cold weather stuff we could probably camp through the winter (uh, well, almost ).
We have travelled the ALCAN four times now, granted, a little earlier in the year. Unless there is an extreme (and unexpected) blizzard, we should be OK. We plan to be back in AK by midmonth Oct at the latest.:razz:

More power to you. Try and keep dry. That has always been my biggest problem with winter camping; it's hard to stay warm if you can't dry out your gear due to the condensation.
Alaskan_Toaster 09-30-2007, 05:39 PM I updated the link on my signature, had the wrong link. Sorry for the confusion
Now you can view the photos I just posted, enjoy!
