Here in Seattle, I got my Blue EX 4WD for $1,000 over MSRP on 2/15. While my dealer said it's a steal, I wanted to get a sampling of how much people in mid- to large cities paid over (or under, for that matter) MSRP just to do a quick comparison. Thanks so much.

in Austin, TX, I paid about MSRP for the car (EX, manual 2WD), and a little bit less than MSRP for some accessories

I paid $18,110 - $1,000 under MSRP sticker for a 2WD EX , 5-speed. I got the impression everyone is /was looking for automatics. I traded in my 99 New Beetle and felt like I got a decent trade value. I'm happy with deal and very happy in my Element.

I paid 1280 "under" MSRP with a few extras thrown in. I think this is now becoming unusual and the only reason I got it was because I live in VA and the snow has killed all auto sales in the area. Presidents day sales were wiped out completely. They had what I wanted on the lot so deal made. AWD EX.

Hard to get much meaning out of these numbers without knowing if there were trade-ins involved.

I "paid" about $500 below MSRP but didn't get what I should have for my trade. Factoring that in, I actually paid about exactly MSRP.

I pai 310 under MSRP for mine. If I was willing to drive to the next city and get silver, I could have saved another 250, but the SO was worth it! Plus, I get free oil changes and other perks from this dealership!

We paid MSRP, but got one of the early ones. If you shop around, you should be able to get a better deal. It is going to depend on trade it, on what the dealer has in stock, and how long they have had it.

Paid MSRP but got good deals on the trades and accessories. We bought two at the same time, Nighthawk Y and SOP Y. Made the salesmans day. He was a great guy. If buying in Alberta I would recomend him.

boneheadz,

Cool, a 2 E family.

We are talking about getting another one ourselves, but just not sure yet. Do we really need 4 cars for 2 people?

boneheadz
02-26-2003, 05:05 PM
No you don't need 4 cars, but at the risk of sounding obsessed, once you have an element, do you need any other car? :?:

I negotiated the price prior to mentioning a trade in. I always do it that way. I traded an old Montero but checked trade in values on the internet prior to know what it was worth. I got about 400 less than I expected so I guess that made up for the $300 of freebees that were thrown and $100 of the price I got so instead of $1280 under MSRP I guess it is more realistic to say $1180 under. Still, don't think I could do that again in a couple of weeks. Popularity of the vehicle appears to be going up but don't know if that is temporary or not. I think the weather worked in my favor quite a bit.

bondheadz,

Well, some people (grandfather is 89) can't get in and out of the back seat too easy, (his wife has back problems so she needs to ride in the front). That being said, I do need another vehicle, as well as the fact that sometimes we do need a vehicle that lets more than 4 people ride in it.

Where in VA do you live. I am in Bowie Maryland and getting it at MSRP with some accessories thrown in. If your dealer is cheaper I'm there!

I've got my E for $18300 w/o accessories in Houston, TX. I spent two weeks bargaining for this price and 5.99% interest for 60 months. By the way, it is a 2WD EX automatic. :D

According to the salesman I am the first person who got a discount on an Element. In reality I got $300 discount off the price of $21310.00 on an automatic 4WD EX, but I had the dealership put on the security system.

We are getting our Shoreline 4WD EX next week for $500 under MSRP through an auto broker here in San Francisco. The local dealers I've surveyed are being really firm on $1,500 to $2,000 over MSRP right now. We are also paying full retail on many accessories plus labor. Going through a broker was so easy, he did all the work for a flat fee of $200.

My gut tells me this car may become harder to get before it gets easier. I think as people start to see more of them on the road, they're gonna want one. So we feel lucky to be getting this car now with a limited discount from MSRP.

There are still Mini Cooper S's selling for nearly $10K over MSRP here in San Francisco - c'mon, its sticker is $21K! Only 6 months ago, the wait was over 1 year long if you wanted to "order" one and pay closer to MSRP.

I live in the Washington, DC area and bought my Element EX 4WD for $1,210 under the MSRP. I paid $20,100 and also had about $300 worth of accessories and services thrown in.

In this area, going through internet sales, I found a number of dealers who would sell under the MSRP. I guess it all depends on your region of the country!

Well, after reading what everyone's paid, I kinda feel like I got hosed...and did'nt even get a kiss afterwards!!

We will be paying MSRP with no freebies. :(

However, after reading thru all the posts on this link, I believe I WILL be doing a wee bit of groveling to see what I can squeak outta them since I've found OH-SO many things I wont be able to live without! Afterall, it's only been ordered, the add-ons can still be just that, added on! ;)

And, anyhoo, I too will be leasing. Had to just give a CC number to order one and then will finance when it arrives. $300 per month, I believe that was for 4 years with 12K per year. (I only commute 6 miles a day, so, for me, it makes sense.)

by the way, my E is a EX 2wd 5-speed. Gotta have a 5-speed!! Never buy you accessories at the dealer ! Shop on Ebay or some other stores online you will save a fortune! I bought the roof rack for $160 on ebay and it took me 10 minutes to instal. Keyless entry is on the way, I paid $105 for it. I hear it is very easy to install. Dealer wanted $250 bucks!! Brian

I just test drove an 4wd, black, a/t, loaded with all options plus roof rack, step boards, and some other dealer stuff that brought the price from 21,500 or so to 24,900 I believe. the best deal I could get was 22,455 and the Element already has 1,000 miles on it. I don't need the 4wd so I had the salesman look around for a 2wd 5spd. EX. What should I expect to pay for a basic EX 2wd. He says he needs 72 hours to find me one. I only want to pay around 18,000.Or less... Is it possible? I want one BAAAAAAD!!

$18,000 sounds about right!
I just bought mine 2WD EX Shoreline for about $18,700 +++ about $21,500 out the door, not including Keyless, Sidesteps, Armrest, and Fog Lights ($1300.00 YIKES). Had to have it all!

I eventually got $300 off MSRP plus I got all of the BS dealer charges eliminated. They wanted like $250 for security window engraving (I think it already comes from the factory with this feature), I also got the delivery charge waived. But then I had to add the ac for $800 installed. I worked these guys for a while. I picked 3 Honda dealers. One dealer in s. jersey, one dealer in Langhorne, PA and one dealer in North jersey, then worked them against eachother. IMO, honda has artificially created this bs "supply & demand" crap to keep their suv margins fat. IMO, they are out to F you, so get them first. I work for a fortune 100 company in sales so I have experience with margin sales. They will definately try and dick you if they can.

I HAD to get mine when I did. Test drove at one dealership, bought from another as I would have to wait 3 weeks for delivery on the first. Bought Jan 11. paid MSRP and half on 1800 in accessories. Didn't need running boards but it looks kewl. Got a free tank of gas as well. Have only seen 3 in Houston. :D

For my EX 2WD I paid exactly $500 over dealer invoice with a no hassle deal. Additionally I purchased the remote start/keyless entry/alarm for cost at $675. E-mail me privately for the dealership I purchased from in the Chicago area. I was really happy with them compared to a few other Honda dealers I originally visited (who shall remain nameless in this forum) as they wasted a good deal of my time and insulted my intelligence regarding pricing research I had done in advance.

Pricing for the Element largely depends on where you are. Here in Seattle, there are a lot of outdoor types and Honda loyal customers. I had to go to Spokane to get one for a little under MSRP. Mine is a 4WD EX Shoreline Mist.

I posted this on another thread asking about MSRP prices but will also let you know---I'm in the Washington, DC area and bought my E last Sat. (3/29) EX AWD with keyless remote for $20,400 out the door (including tax, tags, title, etc). Plus they gave me the kelly bb price for my 97 Saturn. It is silver and they had 4 on the lot. Since the color was not a big deal for me I figured I could get a better price taking one it off their hands at the end of the month! I have a question though about the after purchase Honda telephone survey. They have not called me yet but the finance guy at my dealers told me about it and said that they are rated between 1 and 5 and if I give the survey even one 4, they fail!! Is this true? I don't want to bad mouth the dealer, they basically did a good job. The only thing that bothered me was when I was getting ready to walk to another dealership (that I named), they started really bad-mouthing the other dealership. I thought that was really unprofessional. Plus they tried to scare me saying the other dealer would keep me in a room for "hours" trying to get me to buy their car! I was quite offended and told them that just because I'm a woman, no one is going to keep me anywhere I didn't want to be, and if the other dealer didn't give me the price I wanted I would just walk out, just like I'm getting ready to do here! That's when they offered me the great price. But still, that just sticks in my craw!! Any other experiences?

Sticker was 21,310....dealer sold to us for $700 off that taking it to 20,610....then the generous dealer gave us $300 for the trade in on my 1993 Chevy Cavalier with 108,000 miles, a huge dent in the side and coutless other problems (no air, electrical problems, etc).....so that took us to 20,310....then we put down 3K....took out a 60 month loan and I think our payments are $360....I am happy...great car, great dealer!

After doing a lot of homework and contacting 17 dealerships in Ontario I got my Element for $1000 (CAD) below MSRP. In addition I also got a few extras (Keyless entry, mud guards, mats).

You too can save on your E purchase but you will have to go through a few idiots before finding the right dealer. Many dealers will tell you that they can't give you a discount at all because the E is in such great demand but that's just BS! I could not find my vehicle anywhere in Ontario and I still got a great deal. I will have to wait till July to get it though! :(

Quite honestly, it was posts like this that made me CRAZY while dealing on our E.

Really, what you pay depends alot on what you want, where you are and what you have to trade in (or not).

So....there, I said it. *lol*

Elgnoh, it's not fair finding this old thread and reincarnating it. All those early adopters who paid MSRP or much more! (where are you now three-post SeattleElement?) would prefer to forget the price they paid, much less have it splashed across the screens of a bunch of new EOC members for their amusements.

biocube

and yet, maybe this thread should be re-incarnated and made as a sticky (or a new thread with the same idea)

it always comes up people asking 'what did/should i/you pay'

and really, the only fair way to report that is $ off MSRP (or invoice), since out-the-door, etc all depend on other factors.

I paid a dealer invoice for mine. But I got a buddy who works as a sales team manager at a Honda store in Palm Springs and he was my salesman. Had to drive 131 miles to get it. I was in and out of there in an hour. My deal structure was all handled in advance by fax and he held my exact unit for me for a week until I could get out there with my wife. This is a smaller Honda dealership by SoCal standards and had five new AWD EX's that were just hanging around collecting dust. My buddy said that lately all of their Element customers were looking for 2WD models. Flooring fees had the owner itching to get rid of them asap. I went back there a week later to get my racks and fog lights installed (thats where my buddy made some money) and those other four AWD EX's were still there.

You should be able to get a good deal on remaining 2005 models. Try using a auto broker or Honda internet manager. Shop the dealers in a 100 mile radius against one another. Let them know you are doing that. Just remember not to be wishy washy on when you are going to buy. Tell them you are "Ready to buy NOW" if you want to be taken seriously and get your best price. Most broker and internet sales leads are from people that shopping other vehicles or who are not ready to buy any time soon. So take advantage of it.
