What caused the flat?

I replaced my tires this year and, you guessed it, I got a flat within a month. It was a roofing nail in my case.

I dont know what caused the flat. There was a tear in the tire about an inch long inside the tread. The tire place could not repair it so I have to get a new one. Times like this make me thank God that my maintenance is paid for by the company I work for!

Heck no! It's a total write off. He blew not only a tire but the entire new-car joy of ownership. Gonna have to go back to the dealer for another E. :D

Last year I stopped to help change a tire on a RAV4. The tires were brand new, and the hole was a slit on the inside tread edge. But in this case we had a good idea what the cause was - the road was made with sharp edged shale, and had a reputation for eating tires.

I've had two punctures on the Element's tires. In both cases there was an obvious thumping as the tire picked up the object. In the last case, the object was a 4" length of chain saw file. You can imagine what it feels like to drive with that sticking out of (or in?) the tire.
