Just curious. Why do you personally take your time to do it? :)

I always wondered the same thing, cause if I drive by you on the street, I'm going to see it. So what's the big deal.

The trade-off of one minute to blur my plates vs. having to deal with a case of identity theft or other bureaucratic hassle is worth it to me.

True, you can drive by and see my plate, but you still have to be in my area.

Lizzurd,

Is that the Honda bug deflector? if not, what brand?

And I like your choice in grille guard. I went with the large hole one from cloud rider.

I have always found that interesting. People take the time to do that, But there is nothing you can do about traffic cams.

In the Boston area we have over 70 of them. You can see the plates clearly on many of them. Also simply walking down a line of parked cars, at the supermarket, or wile parked at work, the plate is exposed.

To me It's just a waste of time.

With this little download it's quite easy to blur parts of a photo:

http://www.irfanview.com/

Install/Run the program

Open an image

Select what you want to blur

Hit <Ctrl-E> to open the Effects Browser

Click 'Pixelize', then 'OK'

Save the file, Done.

I view it as a small step in keeping my online persona separate from my real life identity. I don't sign my name to posts, or even give an email address. The car's license number is part of my real life identity. How easy is it for someone to look up my name and address using the license number?

Your plate number is public info anyhow, just like your address or phone number. Here is mine if anyone wants to pretend they're a redneck iron ranger fire fighter, have at it.

In Minnesota you now get a new drivers license number every time you renew. They say it is more secure but they don't have to memorize a new number every four years.

People use to think that if they saw a license plate number in a picture they could use it to scam someone. What stops someone from saying I got in an accident with a red Honda element license plate xxcj 7890 and he drove off. That was the fear that lead to people bluring out their plates. I do it in all my pics unless I have a vanity plate, which makes no sense!! ha ha

I actually hadn't considered that! Now I'm even MORE paranoid

:)

Actually, there are any number of good reasons not to reveal too much personal information anywhere on the internet. With licence plates I just don't want everybody knowing that it is my vehicle - the possibilites for grief are endless, vandalism, stalking, junk mail ... Who needs the hassle?

Wouldn't you be more likely to try to scam someone with a license plate you found in town? You know, a place where you'd actually be driving?

I guess I get nervious with all the identity theft that is going around...I blocked out my plate a couple of times...it does hinder the picture of my E though....I probably won't do it anymore, well, untill a problem arises.

I have a fool-proof ironclad method for protecting from identity theft. Simply PM me your name (as it appears on the credit card), credit card number, expiration, social security number, mother's maiden name, and your bank code word.

Oh and if you act now, I'll let you in on the ground floor of this amazing unclaimed prize money opportunity I received in the mail from an "attorney" in Nigeria.

Don't want to bicker, but I see two flaws in your argument. I'll enumerate them as they apply to me.

1) I generally do try to limit the exposure that my real name, e-mail address, etc., get on the Internet. But that's only possible because I don't drive around public roads every day with my name and e-mail address in three-inch letters on my bumpers.

2) Anybody who knows me, knows what my car looks like. Anybody who doesn't know me ... ah, doesn't know me!

My Element's license plate (which I don't hide in photos) is boring, so here's the one I used to have on my Rambler:

....Anybody who knows me, knows what my car looks like. Anybody who doesn't know me ... ah, doesn't know me!...

That was my point. I guess. I don't want anyone who doesn't know me to THINK that they know me because they have seen the licence no. of my vehicle on this site!

I hope that made sense!

Paranoid, maybe. I prefer to think of it as protecting my anonymity.
