: Waxed From the Manufacturer?

This may be a dumb question, but are the Es waxed when when new? I assume so, but I have never purchased new and the dealer was talking about buying teflon coating or something like that. Anyhow, with all the fires in SoCal I just wanted to make sure before damage ensued.

I don't think so, they usually put some protective plastic on it from the factory and detail/wax it at the dealership before the customer takes delivery.

My E has a small sticker saying something was applied to the finish... "Armor" something I think... prolly just some sort of wax/glaze. I don't know if it was done by the dealer or before.

I owned a detail shop for many years, and all I can tell you is to be thankful that you didn't let them put that crap coating on your rig. Paint needs to breathe, expand and contract. We use to get those coated cars in the shop all the time where the paint had started to get fine tiny little cracks in the coating after a period of time. Just stick to the 'old fashion way' and wax your vehicle once in a while, and you'll be a lot happier!

Just got mine a few days ago. Dealer told me to wait 90 days before waxing, and to stick to handwash carwashes only. Does that sound right?

I didn't ask what the finish was currently when I picked it up...

Guess the dealer was wrong (SHOCK!) about the 90 days thing... From the Meguiars site:

A new car with a factory paint job can be waxed the moment it is rolled out of the manufacturing plant. Cars that have factory paint jobs are cured at much higher temperatures, sometimes as high as 300 degrees in special baking ovens. At a factory level, the car goes through the painting and baking process without any of the rubber, plastic, and cloth components installed. This is why they can expose the car and it's fresh paint to such high temperatures. These high temperatures and special paints used at the factory level insures the paint is fully cured by the time the car is completely assembled.

That's very true, and just be sure to stay away from Joy...Ivory Liquid, etc. They contain DETERGENT, and that's the fastest way to strip waxes and polish from your paint. It kind of dumb to spend time applying wax to your vehicle, then to turn right back around and strip it off. The idea is to enhance your shine, not to dull it.

It's amazing what can come out of the mouths of automotive "professionals".

You could always buy a soft, fuzzy car cover from the same dealer who wanted to sell you the teflon coating.

Then you could be fleeced as well as waxed!

OK, can we talk about gas mileage now? :|

You will want to have some sort of wax / polymer coating on your finish to protect it from environmental pollutants, bird poo, bug guts, etc..

Regards,

:D

Yeah, I know the coating crap is bogus. I am just wonder if it is waxed new or is there no wax on it at all? With all the fires here in SoCal I am worried about the paint of there is no wax.

Honda vehicles are not waxed before they leave the factory. You should wax your new car unless your dealer did before you took delivery.

Thanks for the info. Is there a way to tell if there's a coat of wax on the car? I ask because I have a feeling that if I call the dealership and speak to three different people, I will get three different answers to the question.

Water beading in one way to tell. The easiest way is to just wash your E real good, and wax it yourself. If it already has a coating of wax, the new coating will just add to the protection. When I got my E, the first thing I did was take it home, wash it and put a good coat of wax on it. Even if the dealer did wax it, they probably use bobo brand wax, get a good coating of meguiers ,zymol or some other good quality wax on there.

Honda definately doesn't wax them. I haven't heard of any Honda dealers waxing them without calling it a 'protection pacakge' and charging a lot for it so my guess would be no.

The big problem that I am stuck with is I don't have a good place to wash my car. Orange County is too expensive for a new teacher to live, so I rent this small studio on top of somebody's garage. However, the landlord won't allow me to park in the driveway even though nobody does. Not even to wash the car.

He is old and pays somebody to wash it for him. On my old car I had whatever school club, sport. etc. was having a car wash do it or I would go to one of those spray gun booth places. However, who knows, both may use Ajax type stuff instead of real car wash soap and remove my wax.

That doesn't make any sense. It's not like you couldn't move it if needed. Does he not want you using his water?

My '07 has a sticker inside the back window saying "This entire vehicle is protected by AutoArmor Vehicle Protection System" I assume part of that is an exterior coat of some kind. I didn't pay for this and the dealer didn't mention it as a freebie. I thought it was a factory thing.

I just picked up my '08 a few weeks ago. When I picked it up it was a huge storm so they told me to take it home, look it over, any chips or whatever and if any problems come back first thing in the morning. After the storm I went out and looked at my truck and OMG - they must have detailed the E before giving it to me because there was white wax on some of the plastic parts and just white chalky stuff all over the place. The chalky stuff would wipe right off but the stuff on the plastic there was no way. I drove back to the dealer and said WTF. It was in all the cracks of the doors, windows and all over. The service manager came out and said yea this was a bad detailing job, the car should not have gone out like this and he would schedule me in for a complete detaling. (actually going in tomorrow but then have no courtsey car for me )

I know I didnt pay for any extra package to detail, but I think they did it because they picked up the E from another dealership and drove 30+ miles so maybe the car got dirty? Maybe I waited almost 2 weeks for the E to arrive?

When I picked up mine at the dealership 2 years ago I was sure they waxed it as there was wax all over the plastic parts...Thank You to EOC and the "peanutbutter for wax on panels cure" I was able to straighten it up right away.
