I'm sure this has been covered somewhere before but I'm not sure which thread it should go in.

I was changing my oil last night and was slightly dissapointed in the mess the engine compartment was in. Mostly road dust and some occasional grease/oil. My main concern was the looks of the krylon painted plastic engine panel, it looked really good right after I painted it.

Well, long story short. I had a bottle of windex out and decided to give it a shot. Grabbed some fresh shop towels and went to work. Brightened the engine panel up just like it was freshly painted. So I used it on all the other plastic overs and extremely dusty painted parts under the hood.

Dramatic improvement, looks good, only took 5 minutes, will do it every oil change.

I have been using windex for a few years to clean the plastic pieces on my E's engine with no signs of fading.

I hose mine down if it needs cleaning. Same soap and water that the outside gets!

Just be careful you don't get any on the outside plastic panels...

The ammonia will remove any protectorant you have on it, and leave it streaky

I had a 'detail' shop try to clean tree sap off the E last year, and they used windex. Did a great job on the paint with the sap, but was murder on the plastic panels. It took 3 coats of Back to Black to fix it ...

I think I'll buy a cover this year...

Tire foam for me too.

Tire foam on the black plastic panels and tire foam under the hood.

Hmmmmmm, that sounds like a good idea, thanks DC. Maybe I'll spray some tire shine (liquid) on afterwards and blow it around too. (I am over due for that on both of mine)
