Wow!

That's incredible that the deer wasn't frightened and came so close the human filming the scene. Somebody must be feeding that deer.

When I had my husky-shepherd Bo (he looked like a wolf, and was gorgeous) the deer would take off running as soon as they saw him come out onto the upper deck. And of course, he'd take off full force down 1 and 1/2 flights of stairs barking for all he's worth.

Now, when I had my two female dogs the deer didn't care so much. The most the deer would do is jump to the other side of the fence sometimes not even moving away from where they had landed. They weren't afraid of Genie and Nickie at all. Of course, Nickie didn't chase them. She was all about prepared food--she wasn't gonna work for a meal :-P

That is amazing. I have to admit I had no idea what I was going to see when I saw the headline on the main forum page... but truly amazing. I guess the dog 'playing' with the deer extended the guy watching as not being a threat.

Neato.

With guns, usually. Sometimes with bows.

a little off topic

Unfortunately we have to shoot them because there are not enough natural predators to keep their population in check. There are places here where there are over 200 deer living on enough space to support 10 healthy deer. The other downfall from overpopulation is the spread of diseases between deer species such as chronic wasting disease. There are several food banks that will accept venison donations, some even cover the processing fees. I would donate mine this year but I'm lazy and my $26 license will probably go to waste. The biggest concern I have is all the motor vehicle/deer collisions. I'm an EMT and have to see the aftermath of all those deer moving into urban areas and into those busy streets and highways. I don't believe in "sport hunting" though. All those guys that are out there just for a trophy make me sick. I was brought up with respect for nature but it seems many were not.
That was a funny video. Has anyone ever seen the one where the guy pours deer pee on himself then gets his but kicked by a horny buck and won't let his wife put the camera down to help? That one is hilarious.

Very true. I was never a hunter, but I have nothing against it as long as you hunt by the rules. Plus venison and elk are pretty tasty.

That video reminds me of an unfortunate incident that happened in Central PA last year where I was living. There was a couple that were getting too friendly with nearby deer, feeding them on a regular occasion. They thought they were being close to nature, being friendly with these beautiful animals. Then one day one of the deer freaked out and killed one of the people. Really, it was just being a deer. As beautiful as they are, these are wild animals and potentially dangerous. Not to mention overpopulated pests.

Reminds me of a funny story.
My brother was out working on his car and his friend pulls up with his Doberman -- he lets the dog out then asks if he could put him in the house because he didn't want him running loose while they worked on the car. A few minutes later the friend jumps up and yells "OMG your cat!" My brother realizing what he meant yells "OMG your dog!" They both run to the house and sure enough the cat has the Dobie cowering in the corner!:D

Yup that's about right! My big male cat likes "his" dogs but any others he makes run in fright :D
