Of course, my pictures coming after HC and bh (I love that baxter guy) and all the other nice lookig pups
As my mom said, after he got his E he looks so happy and feels so good he will live another 15 years (it would be great)!

Looks like that all these dogs really enjoy their Es!!

He looks just like one of Gidget's best buddies, our next door neighbor, "Fluffy." What a cutie! :-) Gidget likes Fluffy a lot more than Fluffy likes Gidget. They're quite a duo.

Gidget's not looking like Gidget now -- been a few weeks between baths. Bath time tomorrow night, though. She visits pediatric patients Wednesday night.

Saw this on Dogcars.com

Its a website about Dog Friendly vehicles...

Another true-life Dogmobile road test, this time for the Honda Element. I had to drive a couple hundred miles to attend the U.S. Dog Agility Association’s regional trial, and I was taking one of my dogs, not so she could compete but so she could see her littermate, whose mom is one of the top agility competitors in the world.

With just one dog and feeling lazy, I didn’t put the side-by-side wire crates in the Element. They would have fit, and the Element has well-positioned cargo tie-downs, but I would have had to completely remove the rear seats to make it work. In fact, it’s easy to remove the seats, but it’s even easier to flip them up against the walls of the Element to open up the cargo area, as shown in the picture.

So … running late and opting for easiest, I flipped up the seats, put down the old bedspreads to protect the vehicle and put in a dog bed, followed by McKenzie, the day’s test dog. And off we went.

I immediately noticed a great and surely accidental dog-friendly feature on the Element: Windows that are resistant to nose prints. The windows are placed high on the vehicle — so high that you can’t comfortably rest your arm on the driver’s side window sill — and for a dog resting on the floor of the Element it’s tough to put noseprints on the window. Since I have to wash the noseprints off the windows, I immediately decided this was a spectacular feature. And although I didn’t get much enjoyment from it, McKenzie sure liked the removable moonroof over the cargo area.

The Element also has clamshell rear doors, the glass opening up for ventilation and the tailgate flipping down to make a great seat. Love it!

McKenzie and I both enjoyed the trip. The Element drives much more nimbly than its boxy lines suggest, and the dog loved having her bed and a little extra room to roam. For two dogs and a longer trip, I’d definitely pop out the rear seats entirely, not only for the extra cargo room but also because when the seats are up they block the rear windows, making changing lanes a little more challenging.

My only quibble is a minor one: The cup holders are on the floor, between the two front seats. That meant if McKenzie decided to, she could help herself to my latte when I wasn’t looking. Personally, I’d rather have cup holders swing out from the dash, since I don’t like sharing my coffee with the four-leggers.

As I’ve mentioned before, you cannot hose out an Element. Taking the leaf-blower idea from a reader, however, I used my forced-air dog dryer to blast any dirt and dog hair from the cargo area. It worked great!

Honda made a big fuss last year about its prototype dog-car, with built-in crates for small dogs. I don’t know why they thought that was such a big deal, since they’ve had one of the best Dogmobiles ever in their line for years.

The bottom line: Whether you love the look or hate the look, no matter: The Element is as good a Dogmobile as could possibly be imagined.

-- Gina Spadafori

* * *
Carguy Comments: The Honda Element is available in three trim lines: the rugged LX, refined EX and the sporty SC – all of which features an inline four cylinder engine that produces 166 horsepower. The emissions rating for the Element is LEV II and cargo capacity is 77.1 cubic feet while towing capacity is 1500 pounds.

-- Keith Turner, The Family Car

Honda Element: Just the right canine chemistry

Barking Lot Banter: From its spacious and versatile interior to its anti-noseprint windows, everything about the Honda Element howls with happiness for dog families. While the Element’s boxy style may not be your look of choice, there’s no denying that the easy-to-clean Element is a near-perfect dogmobile.

I have 2 medium sized dogs and they LOVE rides in the Element. I don’t even put the seats up, they ride in the back with no problem. It’s big enough for a large bed to share (not that they sit for a minute). The back seats are high so that prevents them from jumping over them. They do peek between the seats and the windows to say hello, but no problem. I LOVE MY ELEMENT!

2007-11-12 16:40:05

the element will be great but with a newfoundland breed you need all the seats up. that would not go if you have a family wanting to go to a beach.

2007-11-09 18:50:04

Well I’ve drooling over the Element for years … if only I could afford one. My Civic is on its last leg, so I am hopeful I will be able to get the Element next. Anything!!! easier to clean would be welcome. Any used ones in Ontario for sale anytime soon???

2007-11-08 12:22:28

Just remember that you will have to replace the tires before you reach 25K miles and that you won’t get the advertised 27 mpg, ever.

2007-10-30 09:45:35

i have two dogs one large and one small. i bought my elemant specifically for the carpetless floor, and the wipe off sports seats. I LOVE IT. my only thing is i wish i could put up a barrier between the front and the back seats so i would not have to fight to keep the front seats puppy free.

What are you using on the floor in that picture? Is it just to catch hair/dog dirt, or is it like a rubber mat?

Great dogs in E's. For those of you that have uncovered seat slots, try these. I think it's real easy for dogs to get caught up in those. Most of us have dogs beds and stuff, but I still use them when the platform isn't in.

This pic shows his body a little better. He is rockin the pink wrap because he somehow had a nail rip off.:-( The only thing left is the quick and he licks it nonstop. I spared him the shame of a photo with the inflatable e-collar on.

they were okay when i did hourly or 1.5 hourly stops....but when i did a 2.5 straight home.... teddy (the smaller guy) didnt make it..... spent the whole sunday cleaning it up and thank god the smell is gone.....

kudos to the plastic E flooring and layers of rubber mats....all i needed to do was take the crate, mats out to wash and vacum / wipe out the interior... basically a full interior detailing in 3 hours!

Just picked up an '08, we bought it specifically for our two mutts who had trouble getting in and out of our Land Cruiser. We did a lot of research, the Element was really the only thing that met all our criteria. We then narrowed it down to an '07 or '08 in green or tangerine with low miles. It took a while, but one finally came available.

http://seward.smugmug.com/photos/520247637_HWVuT-M-1.jpg

River on the left is a borgi (beagle/corgi) and Budino is a blab (basset/lab). Both were rescued from the pound.

Sorry, we're in San Antonio. I filled in some of the profile data last night. We love the orange, we were pretty disappointed that they dropped the green and the sunroof this year. More importantly, the dogs love the car. We left one of the rear seats in, as Budino loves to stare out the window and can't see out if she's on the floor, and filled in the rest of the space with a couple of dog cushions. As usual, they have it better than us for comfort.

Is he finally taking off and coming over? Love you, Baxter.

Funny story about Baxter: I put one of his past posted pictures into my screensaver together with EOC meet June pictures and some others. A he colleague of mine (self-named dog expert) sees it and starts telling another colleague of mine: "Look, look, this is like my Border collie pup that I will get soon." The other: "But it is brown." "Oh, apart from the color, this and that..., it's exactly like my BC pup." When I heard it, I could not stop laughing. Had still some problem to convince him you can nicely see he is a chow mix. :D

Great dogs in E's. For those of you that have uncovered seat slots, try these. I think it's real easy for dogs to get caught up in those. Most of us have dogs beds and stuff, but I still use them when the platform isn't in.

Ursa Minor made them, (slot covers)

This is the best thread. An endless photo essay of happy pups blessed with loving owners, and vice versa. I especially enjoy the images of pups in their Elements -- they've brightened the days of many people the photogs will never meet. Thanks, everyone. :)

Here are a couple from a recent walk on the Mall. Gidget and a Schnauzer who was recently adopted from a Schnauzer rescue by a friend of mine. A real sweetheart. Unfortunate circumstance caused him to be put in rescue. He's clearly always been loved. He's helping to heal the heart of his new owner whose previous Schnauzer died suddenly and entirely unexpectedly a few months ago.

We got a laugh out of his propensity to "draft" behind Gidget. Very clever boy, he kept himself in Gidget's shade as the sun was going down.

And I just noticed that this is the Dogs in E's thread so I've amended with Gidget in the E after a long hike.

Wow - kinda cool to say that in person, and I'm not that religious. ;-)

Dogs are my favorite photo subject. No matter the breed(s), they are always fascinating in their expressions. And it is so gratifying to shoot a pic of a friend's dog that they will treasure years from now.

If the house ever catches on fire, I'll first grab Gidget and secondly the extrernal hard drive storing all the photos. At worst, there will long be plenty of pics "backed up" in this EOC thread.

Thanks! He is a sweet boy. :) People sometimes don't believe he's a golden retriever since he's so red.

That's how a Golden SHOULD look, so pretty. We raised GR's when I was younger and it always saddens me to see how the red color has died out.

Corgi's make excellent service dogs because of their size, high working drive and intelligence. He is by far the best dog I've ever had. He knows both verbal and hand signs...my speech is fine despite my deafness because I was late-deafened. He's wonderful :)

Bella is my problem child. She has some issues due to poor breeding (she was a rescue) and is obsessed with food. She can open anything...fridge, freezer, oven, microwave...you name it, that dog can open it and help herself if there is food in it. Will be only a matter of time before she figures out how to open the cubby hole in the E...le sigh!

Try filling Bella up with green beans. Dog show people use it when they want to slim down there dogs for a show. The beans ad volume with out calories.
Do you feed her a Large/giant breed formula? It dos make a difference in nutrition.
Make sure you put up some pic of the new E when you get it and let me know if you try the beans.

Oh she gets plenty to eat, she's just food obsessed and has been since she was born. Not sure why since she was not lacking for nutrition or food at any time in her life. I am fostering a dane pup right now that WAS starved and she has the same crazy food obsession as Bella, but at least she has a REASON for it! Bella is just a pig. A really TALL one, but a pig nonetheless, haha.

She has been fed a very high quality diet since weaning so she's in great health (life abundance and canidae) as I am a huge advocate of quality diet, especially in giant breeds. She's extremely well trained, has her CGC...but nothing will stop her from searching out food and stopping at nothing to get it. She's a pill :P

FINALLY, picture of the dogs in the E. This morning I had it parked in the driveway and the dogs were in the yard while I installed the barrier and put the blanket over the seats. Bella was howling in protest, positive I was going to leave her home again. She's had to stay home for the past week (usually they go to work with me) because I cleaned my van out to sell and didn't want any hair in it. Then I was gone 4 days in MN picking up the car and visiting my brother..so she was NOT leaving my side. She adores the E, settled right in.
