: Nuvi 360 and panvise/tessco mount
IbElement 11-24-2007, 04:26 PM I had the hardest time finding a mount I liked that worked with my Garmin Nuvi 360. After much searching I finally found a combo that works great so I thought I'd share the info.
I got the Panvise mount ($22) and a Tessco head made specifically for the Garmin. The head was only $16 and works great. It's easy to pop it on and off. I mounted it on the left side of the radio and it is out of the way, easy to see and reach.
Here's the head

Tessco doesn't sell retail but they had a company that does call me one day after my inquiry. (I can't remember the company name now...)
Elemental8 11-26-2007, 01:26 PM Hey IbElement - Can you post a pic of the actual mount in your car? I'd love to see the pic. Thanks!!
rotgut 11-26-2007, 03:30 PM You can take care of all mounting solutions right here:

IbElement 11-29-2007, 04:33 PM Here's the (1) mounting ball, you add the (2) mounting thingy that came with the Garmin and (3) the final product.

Yes, they have a Garmin mounting plate but it's $30 plus another $30 for a mount that I personally don't like. I paid less than $40 for everything..
Junebug 11-29-2007, 05:26 PM Nice and clean! Thanks for posting the pics. I have a Panavise mount and haven't decided what to do with it yet ... this is certainly an option now!
NoRegrets78 04-28-2008, 12:27 PM Just ordered the panvise mount and sent the email to tessco.
I got a call from a guy at Holzberg Communications.
$16 bucks for the ball mount + ship - 800-654-9550
IbElement 04-29-2008, 12:01 AM Yep, that was the company I got mine from too. Good price and they were nice folks to deal with too.
Snuffleupagus 04-29-2008, 12:30 AM Hey IbElement,
Been meaning to thank you for this thread. I copied your idea to setup a mount for my nuvi 760 using the Panavise mount and the mounting ball.
I've been posting links back to this thread in posts to give people ideas on how a gps can be mounted. I hope you don't mind. :)
Awesome idea! Thanks again.
IbElement 04-29-2008, 11:19 AM Cool, glad it worked out well for you too Snuffleupagus. Keep spreading the word :-)
NoRegrets78 04-29-2008, 01:20 PM Did you have to trim anything for the install? Also, what is this hook tool they are speaking of for removing the trim?
Snuffleupagus 04-29-2008, 02:22 PM Did you have to trim anything for the install? Also, what is this hook tool they are speaking of for removing the trim?
I did have to shave a little off my radio trim for my install. My tabs for the trim were a little warped and pushing to the left. When I installed the mount, the trim was bulging out a bit. Shaving about 1-2 mm off took care of that.
Hook tool is just something to waste money on. Use a rag covered flat head screwdriver. And be very careful.
NoRegrets78 04-29-2008, 02:26 PM LOL, that's what scares me...being careful.
I'm gonna be pissed if I break this trim! Ah well...worth a shot!

Hahaha ;-) ...hey, can you keep a secret? The first time I did it, I shaved off too much and ended up buying another trim from Majestic. sshhhhh! Don't tell anybody!
NoRegrets78 04-29-2008, 02:35 PM I hear nothing.
Elemental8 06-10-2008, 07:34 PM Doh!
Thanks for the pics... I had forgotton all about this. I just called Holzberg tonight and they are going to get the parts for me.
CA2UTINMYE 10-02-2008, 11:38 AM I just upgraded from a velcro mount to the PanaVise #751171003 & #767-GR2 combo. I got the Element mount on Ebay and the Garmin adapter from Insight.com for $31 total.
You'll notice in my photos that the ball mount is no longer silver. BTW, I think the Garmin adapter is still marketed by Tessco but it came in a PanaVise box.
e4u2c 10-25-2008, 01:47 AM Hello all,
I am sick of the suction mount that my Garmin came with so this is the start of what I came up with. I plan on putting the part back in the CNC and cutting it down to a total of 1.25" and then anodize the billet aluminum black. The end is drilled and tapped for a 1/4-20 bolt and will be mounted to the dash panel between the guage cluster and the stereo.
Here are two questions:
Is there enough room for the screw head and a washer behind the panel?
Are there others that would be interested in purchasing this item?
Any input would be greatly appreciated (I have not pulled the instrument panel yet).
I am a CNC machinist and I like to make stuff. If I can get a few people interested in this part (and other parts I am fabricating for my baby), I can optimize machine times, the final price will then be cheaper.
98,000 miles on my '06. I can't wait to drive it again.
GaryS 10-25-2008, 09:42 AM When I leave my car I don't want anything visible that indicates that there is a GPS receiver in the car. That's why I bought the Garmin "bean bag" (http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Portable-Dashboard-StreetPilot-Navigators/dp/B000LRMS66/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_k2a_1_img/190-9423722-8338917?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-2&pf_rd_r=1BXVNACGVWAK4RC248WV&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=304485601&pf_rd_i=B0015EWMX8) mount. It works great and fits in any of my other vehicles.
As they say: Different strokes for different folks.
islandsi 10-25-2008, 04:39 PM Are there others that would be interested in purchasing this item?
That is soooo cool. I want one if you're going to make these. Keep me in mind for this.
I can probably scrape together a few people over on Honda-tech that'd be interested in one of these if you're serious about making them.
islandsi 10-25-2008, 04:48 PM Actually, take a look at this:
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8556#
There's a screw that holds the ball portion to the base. The screw actually comes out the bottom and is held on with a nut. You should be able to get rid of the base and just mount the thing anywhere you want using that screw. Just a thought.
e4u2c 10-26-2008, 03:13 AM I had no idea you can purchase these mounts. I have been so sick of the suction cup releasing, that's why I came up with this. I have the program saved on the CNC so others that are interested, let me know.
How much room is behind the dash panel?
islandsi 10-26-2008, 03:27 AM How much do you want for one of these? Metal is always better than plastic ya know. :)
e4u2c 10-29-2008, 12:39 AM I still have to find out pricing for the anodizing. If I dont, $15 plus shipping.
e4u2c 10-30-2008, 07:02 PM Here are pics of the finished product (less powdercoating). I checked on the options of powdercoating or anodizing. The powdercoating will be a more uniform finish and is available in 44 different colors and is more durable than anodizing. I was planning on doing them black but at a minimum of $125 charge for up to 50 pcs, I need more people wanting them. Or I will just machine and sell them without the coating.
islandsi 10-31-2008, 03:06 AM Make it $15 shipped and you've got a deal. :)
I'll take TWO.
e4u2c 11-01-2008, 02:58 AM I will be advertising it on ebay for $15 plus shipping. My friends are telling me to sell for more but I think $15 is fair for the time, material and effort that me and another machinist put into it.
islandsi 11-01-2008, 03:50 AM $30 for two stuck in an envelope and shipped to my house. :)
e4u2c 11-07-2008, 02:04 AM Sorry for the delay on the part. I wanted to let EOC members know in advance to watch for the ebay posting tomorrow (friday, Nov 6) mid-day to evening. This is my first run of parts and only have 17 for sale. Renting the CNC lathe is very expensive per hour so depending on how fast these sell will determine when I run batch number two.
I personally ran these parts and checked each and every one on my Garmin GPS mount. Each part comes with a screw and a washer installed for you to ensure fitment. All you have to do is pull the dash piece, drill a 1/4" hole and install the ball with the washer on the back side (not showing).
For those of you that purchase this ball, I would appreciate any feedback (positive or negative) for future revisions.
I have been using the origional prototype since I installed it and am very happy with it. Still solid and the Nuvi 205W doesnt vibrate.
islandsi 11-07-2008, 02:24 AM $30 shipped for two?
e4u2c 11-07-2008, 02:53 AM + (probably) $2.00 shipping firm.
islandsi 11-07-2008, 03:24 AM My $5 plastic one is on its way. Gonna see how that does. It's black so it'll match the interior. More of a stealthy look to it that way.
e4u2c 11-07-2008, 01:41 PM Metal is always better than plastic and the unfinished look matches the rings around the guages. But yours is way cheap. I am trying to cut some time on the machine to cut costs, then my piece may be cheaper. Post a picture when you get it installed.
vfxraven19 11-11-2008, 12:00 AM Wow, great stuff! I will need to get one of these mounts. Thank goodness for the search feature. :D
scorsone 11-16-2008, 02:03 PM I like that mount you have come up with! Just wondering how the reception is on the Nuvi mounted so far back inside the E? Let me know how it works there and I may end up ordering one from you.
SpazDog 12-18-2008, 12:06 AM Just wondering if you had enough interest to do a second run yet. I think a nuvi 775 is in my future and this would work well with a panvise mount since I'm not looking at drilling into my dash.
supermaruchi 12-18-2008, 01:56 AM Wats da difference between 360 nuvi and the 260w nuvi? Can someone explain?
I was thkn about this but I had no patience and stuck with the garmin mount. I mounted it on top of my dash, I'm 5'7" and it doesn't obstruct my view at all. Post pics soon.
P.s. Typin' this while drunk.
Migraine 02-09-2009, 06:59 PM Hahaha ;-) ...hey, can you keep a secret? The first time I did it, I shaved off too much and ended up buying another trim from Majestic. sshhhhh! Don't tell anybody!
For those that removed there panel and shaved off 1mm, I have a question. How did you remove the stereo panel? Are there certain places where you pop the panel out with a flat head, say top corners or such?
I ordered the panvise and adapter based on this helpful thread for my Garmin 255W. Just wanted to get all the info first before I attempt to install it.
TIA

Hi Migraine, :)
There are slots underneath the two bottom corners of the radio trim.
Insert a flathead screwdriver wrapped in a towel into the slots and twist. The trim will pop off. Then gently pull on the trim to pop the two clips on the upper corners. You can use the wrapped screwdriver for leverage, but be careful. The plastic on the center trim is soft. It is easy to leave a mark on it.
I finally wrote up a detailed description of how I did my mod. You can read it by following the link below. Maybe it can help with your install. If you have any questions, just ask. :)
