Hi, all...long time lurker, first time poster. I did do some broad searches to see if my question had been answered yet, but no luck so far. If it has indeed been answered already, I apologize, and please redirect me.

I have a 2007 SC that I purchased at the same time as my wife's 2007 CR-V. The sound "system" that came with her car is somewhat lacking, to say the least. I want to add a sub to her car, and it will likely be an Infinity Basslink or Basslink II. However, since I'm going to be putting the effort into hers, I prefer to go ahead and replace the factory sub in my SC as well. I've examined the wiring diagram available on these boards, and it seems like it should be fairly straightforward, but I have some questions.

1) I know the factory amp has 270 watts total power, but does anyone know how much of that is being pushed to the sub? Is there enough to adequately push an aftermarket 8" or 10" sub in a box without causing electrical problems? I'm not looking for a show style sound effect...I just want better sound than the factory 6.5" can provide.

2) I've seen several folks on these boards have worked Basslinks into their stock systems (in case I just buy 2 and give one to the wife), but there seems to be differences over whether you can simply disconnect the stock sub connection and reroute it to the high level input on the Basslink, or if you need a line converter, or if you should reroute the sub line before the amp.

I'm looking for whatever choice on the E will result in solid bass without massive modifications to existing systems. I prefer to use existing wiring where possible, and I'd like to be able to use the factory stereo sub control, which I'll lose if I tie into the satellite speaker lines.

If anyone has any advice on this kind of project, please let me know. We listened to the Basslink in Best Buy last night, and even improperly set up, it sounded mighty good. However, if I can get away with a simple 10" in a box without having to add amps and such, I'd be just as happy.

Thanks!

The factory amp produces 12/watts/ch undistorted. That’s about 18-22 watts @10% THD. You can add the Baslink by connecting the speaker level inputs to the factor sub wires at the sub. This is the easiest way to do it. Be cautioned that the factory amp has a big positive bump in frequency response at 50 Hz. This may or may not be desirable depending on your tastes. You can always replace the factory amp completely and do a speaker upgrade all around for a great sounding system.

I don’t think the CRV has the same system as the Element. The amp in the Element is a Honda/pioneer unit; I don’t know what the CRV uses.

I have a harness that allows you to replace the Honda/pioneer amp without cutting or splicing any wires.

Thanks for the feedback...do you think the increased response at the lower frequencies would have an adverse affect on the Basslink? I definitely don't want to install it and then have it blow due to a surge from the existing amp. However, if thepower is not increased to a dangerous (to the sub) level, I doubt it would really bother me.

No it would not be dangerous at all. It is just an acoustical property that you may or may not like. Ideally you would like to have a flat un-equalized signal to work with.
