TWIN FALLS, Idaho -- DogCars.com, the car-buying resource for dog-lovers everywhere, has chosen the Honda Element as the DogCar of the Year for 2007.

Created by “Good Morning America” veterinarian Dr. Marty Becker and his writing partner, the syndicated columnist, book author and PetConnection.com blogger Gina Spadafori, DogCars.com also gave high honors to the Suzuki Forenza wagon as the Best DogCarsValue among 2007 models.

This is something I have been telling people ever since I found the Element, it truly is the 'perfect' (or dang near) dog hauler.

from the dogcars.com site:

dogcars.com (http://dogcars.com/blog/?page_id=33)
DogCars.com (http://dogcars.com/) gives the highest “paw ratings” to those vehicles that have:
Seats that fold flat or are easily removable.
Plenty of usable cargo space relative to the size of the vehicle.
Wide, square backs, with as little rear slope as possible, to make the most of the cargo area.
Door and window locks, so a dog can’t accidentally unlock a door or roll down a window.
All-wheel or four-wheel drive and high ground clearance, because dog sports people find themselves off-road a great deal. The Honda Element (http://dogcars.com/cars/2007/Honda/Element/)’s versatile cargo space, easy-clean flooring, crate-friendly rear design and optional all-wheel drive were cited as the key ingredients for the perfect dog car.

Best Overall: Honda Element

Love or hate the look, no matter: The Element (http://dogcars.com/cars/2007/Honda/Element/) is as good a DogCar as could possibly be imagined. From its versatile interior to its anti-noseprint windows, everything about the Honda Element has dog-lovers howling with happiness. The easy-to-clean Element is a near-perfect DogCar with just the right canine chemistry.

Available in three trim lines: the rugged LX, refined EX and the sporty SC — all of which features an inline four cylinder engine that produces 166 horsepower. Easy on the fuel-sipping, too!

My dogs and the dogs of several friends of mine all give the Element their paw of approval! :D

And with my platform, I can still fit 4 large dogs AND all my luggage! What's not to love?

Rio won't get in it. He sniffs around but as soon as he sees no carpet he's not in there. He slid around the back of my Civic after I removed the carpet back there when he was a pup so he checks; no carpet no Rio. He also likes to have his head out the window (I know, it's unsafe) which isn't going to happen. Right now his vehicle of choice is Mrs. Perfdata's Cherokee, he loves it!

I do plan on putting South Coast carpets in next year, we'll see what happens then.

You might try something like this.

We picked up a small "nap" pillow/mat for kids at Wal-Mart or K-Mart and it works wonders for the pups.

"anti-noseprint windows" does anyone actually have these? I've got all kinds of prints on my windows, maybe they are slober prints though

The article hit on one thing that I considered, which is the slope of the rear window. Good on them for noticing that a sloping rear window is not good when you've got a dog in back.

What they didn't mention in the article, but are good for dogs AND the E has them:

- a low step in height...easy for the dog to jump in and out of.

- the clamshell door in back...the lower tailgate helps keep my dog from wanting to jump right out before I attach his leash.

- the subwoofer is NOT in the cargo area! I'm so glad there are no speakers or subs in the cargo area of the E...lets me enjoy the music but not worry about hurting my dog's ears because of speakers in the cargo area.

Lexxa, our new dog has given the E her nose and slobber prints of approval!
She can't make up her mind which way she wants to face-or what seat she likes best.

Doesn't slow mine down at all - soon as the top's open, if my hand's not in her face she launches out like a cannonball. Doesn't slow her down getting in either - she just jumps right over it. Does usually leave some claw marks on the weather strip though, so she's discouraged from doing that maneuver most of the time...

Twi... you've been watching me with the saints haven't you?

There's nothing quite like the sight of a 150+ pound full grown saint deciding that once one opens the top rear door that it's perfectly ok to jump out.

oh, by the way, tossin' the hand up in their face doesn't slow them down... 'course doing a full body slam doesn't much either...

just sayin'

Seriously, some of the rescue dogs aren't the best mannered pups in the world initially. I got a big rip (claw) the weatherstrip on the first or second transport... I've since started tethering all the rescue dogs to the floor or the hooks in the roof. Pretty much stops that behavior and it doesn't hurt (me) at all either.

I'll be taking my 105 lb shepherd, in my E, to Big Bear after New Years. I love the fact that I can fit all of my hiking equipment and the dog, and not have to worry about the amount of snow or mug he and I track back into the car. Pictures to follow, of course.

You guys, is there really such a thing as "anti-noseprint" windows? Is this standard or do you have to add it?
