: BFGoodrich A/T TA KO RWL 100R
ReaperZune8 12-15-2007, 08:52 AM LT215/70R16-- of course
Just wondering if anybody else has these tires on their E, and if anybody has thoughts, comments, or ideas about these tires
My E is the 2004 burnt orange... Manual Trans (the only way to drive) 4wd (or AWD)
Kaikara 12-15-2007, 09:29 AM DO a search - they have been discussed plenty of times before.
I have them and they are great tires. Downside - they are loud, heavier than stock, stiffer ride, probably get decreased mileage. Upsides - they look awesome. They are great if you need an all condition all surface tire. I got them because i sometime ride some rougher roads/tracks to get to my mountain bike destinations. Plus i wanted a tire to run year round in the Canadian snow. Works for me but not for everyone.
Mine are 225-70-16

Yes i searched directly after posting... my act first think later lifestyle can be a problem that way:evil: (sorry) so you have them, have you used them on sand... and i guess i will have to view the picture when i get off the work net as its blocked ;(
ALSO, why is there not an AT stickie... with links to user ratings/threads on various AT tires... i mean they have the one for the 18" plus... is there not that much interest in AT?
ORANGEE 12-15-2007, 10:05 AM Those of us that have the BF A/T's are a special breed - we don't need no stinkin sticky..........if you wanna join........ you have to go through the process of learning about our tire - we aren't gonna just hand you membership.
225/70/16's are the size of my choice
ReaperZune8 12-15-2007, 10:09 AM Fine then... that ELF'N settles it... im gonna get em... I will inform you all on how they do on the beaches of NC... I will join your little BFG AT group... by force if needed :D after all... pirates are freakin awesome
BTW do the 225's fit on the standard rims... i have the "No-Frills" rims... i prefer to call them the "Rugged Rims" though....
Kaikara 12-15-2007, 10:17 AM I have never had them on sand myself. Do a search about driving on sand as I have seen people talking about it before. Loose sand is one of the most difficult things to drive on and it is very easy to get stuck. Dropping the PSI way down is the first step. I have zero experience though so see what others have to say.
I love my BFG's they suit me but they are not for everyone. Some would complain about the noise but they don't bother me. We are expecting up to 30cm of snow tonight and tomorrow and you will probably find me driving around in it just for fun.
ReaperZune8 12-15-2007, 10:42 AM Pardon the rims thing... do they fit without rubbing? or any further modification?
Kaikara 12-16-2007, 07:04 AM the 225 fits fine. even a 235 on a regular tire fits fine. With the AT KO if you get a 235 you may get rubbing because of the tread design from what others have wrote. I stuck with the 225's and haven't had a problem.
Critical_level2 12-16-2007, 02:12 PM When I had a set on my explorer, I had them on the beaches quite a few times. I aired down to like 15PSI and they did great. Jsut remember to air down for the sand.

Awesome... thanks for the info... i will let you all know how she fares (w/ pics hopefully) on the sandy beaches of NC

Dornblaser 12-09-2008, 11:36 PM How are these tires in the snow?
- David
fredmertz 12-10-2008, 04:00 AM Remember these aren't snow tires. They dont have the tire compounds that help you get through snow and ice like real snow tires. They are okay in the snow but wont provide that extra margin of safety real snow tires do on ice and the extra traction on snow in real cold temps.
Fred
My Element all dirty from a backroads camping/fishing trip. BTW, the BFG's are amazing. It snowed 20 - 25cm in Calgary, Alberta this past week, and I managed to drive up one of the steepest roads in the city here ( it was covered with snow and ice!!
Pope*Mobile 12-10-2008, 04:00 PM Thank you K24A for the pics- I've been going back and forth on the BGF ATs for a week now and you sealed the deal.
What size? 225s?
~~~
And Fred, these are rated for snow; I've had them on other vehicles and they are awesome in rain, ice, and snow (light as well as deep).
Generation "X" Dad 12-12-2008, 01:21 AM Well, after reading K24A's comment about using his BFG A/T's in Calgary snow, they are definitely going to be my next tire for the Element when the LTX's retire this spring :). I was hoping to buy a set of the BFG's but now that I'll be back home I think I can stretch my 7-8/32nds Michelins a bit longer.
I thought about getting a dedicated set of winter tires but I honestly can't be bothered with having a spare set of wheels and tires sitting around all the time, Also, with the amount of snow I get where I live and how often I'd be in areas which get more snow than my area does, I'd be driving on more dry pavement than anything else. And as we all know, the soft compound of winters really loves that good old dry pavement :-(.
They aren't dedicated snow tires but they are rated for extreme snow requirements by the industry (branded with the mountain snowflake symbol). In my situation I wanted a tire that i could run year round without changing them. Others may need a dedicated snow tire if they are running them in adverse conditions more. I have found these to perform just as well as the snow tires on my wifes mazda 3 but where we are we don't se ethe amount of snow that others might.
Even though I work at a dealership in the shop, I honestly can't be bothered to change wheels and tires twice a year for the amount of snow we get where I live. For the amount of time we'd actually benefit from a dedicated snow tire, I'd burn through them too fast because it would see more dry pavement than snow.
Kaikara 12-14-2008, 12:06 PM Here is mine ripping it up in the snow last year.
havent got stuck yet. AWD in sand has great traction.
TheTANK 12-16-2008, 09:47 PM So I think I remember reading something about the white lettering on the side of the tire and how it's rare to get a set without them...is this true and where/how might I get a set without the white lettering?
Just tell the tire store you want the tires mounted "white letters in" (they are only white on one side). They'll do it.
I thought that might be the case! Thank you for confirming that!
I just purchased a new set of stock steel rims for the new BF Mud Terrains which are 235/70/16 and I'm really hoping I don't have any clearance issues!! I have Nokian SUV's in stock size right now and previously owned a set of Cooper Discover M+S and they are both great tires. Will upload some pics once I get them mounted!
judesminkey 01-08-2009, 06:25 PM Here's a pic of my new rubber, a little modification in the rear(a little hammering) and no rubbing or clearance issues. They are 235/70-16 BFG M/T KM on steel wheels I purchased on Tire Rack. The wheels are 16 hole instead of the oem 20, but I like them more. Ya they are a little noisey but at speed they are very stable, love em already:D
They look awesome! You are going to love them.
wow...I like. I like lots. :razz: what kind of MPG are you getting with those?
How are these tires in the snow?
- David
I don't run these tires on my element, but I do on my work truck. and while that truck is a good deal heavier than the Element, I can say they work pretty damn good in the snow.
Are there better tires out there for snow? Definitely, but these aren't bad.
judesminkey 01-25-2009, 07:52 PM wow...I like. I like lots. what kind of MPG are you getting with those?
Thanks, I've been getting all kinds of looks and comments. One of my coworkers came into work and said "you can hide small children in those tires!". MPG has dropped a couple, I think! I don't really monitor fuel consumption and if I did these are not the tires for any of that. Although the last tank(full) lasted me 210 miles, but that is with warming it up for 15-20 min.'s a day.
evolutionrevolution 01-26-2009, 06:25 AM Wicked tires. I run BFG A/T KO 215/70/16. Cold as hell out here, lots of snow and Ice. I am a mobile massage therapist so I am on the road come rain or blizzard and have yet to get stuck. these tires rock my E in all of the places that I need to go, and some that I want to. I think that next time I may go a bit bigger. Just my 2cents.
