: Waxing new 2008 E now in the winter?

Just picked up my new 2008 Kiwi EX 4WD Saturday and already majorly in love with it!

So after reading about not being waxed from the dealership, I am planning on using the Turtle Wax Ice Liquid Polish next Saturday, but wondering since I live here in PA where it's pretty damn cold right now...

is it ok to be attempting this in the middle of winter? Any issues with waxing in such cold (probably 32 or lower..) weather?

Thanks!

I wax mine all year round as long as I'm inside and it's comfortable for me to do so. I just make sure the surface is clean. I wouldn't think there would be a problem.

Yes, be sure the painted surfaces are clean before you start waxing. If you have an enclosed garage (I think most homes on the continental US would need one) and if the E isn't too dirty, you can easily "wash" your car using a product like Optimum No-Rinse.

Using the two-bucket method (one for your washing solution and another with clean water to rinse your sponge or mitt), you can wash one panel at a time, wipe dry as you go, and give yourself 10-15 minutes. Done! Ready for waxing.

I use ONR in between full wash and detailing sessions with very good results and the product can be diluted to varying strengths to make an excellent spot cleaner or quick detailer.

Good Luck! :D

Unfort. I have a 1-car garage where I store my 2000 Vette (well I shouldn't complain about that I guess ha ha) and also my kayak hanging from the ceiling so my E won't fit in it.

I'll just go to one of the coin-operated places to power wash and wax it there using my own products.

Thanks - much appreciated, including that product info.

Yeah, I'm my Kiwi out today to spray the salt off and throw on some timefoam. Won't get a chance to wax though. I'll put that off for another month or so.

I read a few posts about how great Turtle Wax Ice was. I tried the liquid poilsh this past summer and it is JUNK.....Looks like a Armor All for the paint job. I suggest you use something better. Do a search.....I personally like Meguiars wax ......Also have used Nu-Finish for the second coat. The rag slides right off the car with little effort after applying it. Try it for yourself.....Do a side - by side comparison on the hood or roof....

I love the turtle wax ice on my crotch rocket but I really don't think it is all that great of a wax for a car. That's just my opinion though. I like it for the ninja since I can do it in about five minutes before I head out to a bike night.

However, I have heard that it does well on plastic is that correct? The reason I ask is that my dad got wax on the plastic on their 4-runner about three years ago and it is still on there. I need to get it off of there and read something about the ice wax doing that.

Yea, I don't consider it a wax but a quick detail solution. I mean if you want to throw a quick shine on a vehicle and go, so you're looking good, ICE is a good way to go but for protection? Not hardly. I did my black police car when I had it and it looked sharp for about two or three days but after it rained on it this past summer, it was done and I had water spots etc...... I vowed I'd never use it again but like I said, it's cool for a quick detail but if I'm going to do that, I'd prefer Mequairs or something else that I know will give me longer lasting results. But to each his own. I have a cousin who has Nija zx14 and he's into quick results so he has more time to ride, so I can see where you're coming from on the bike using it.

If you want something easy, with great looks as well as durability, give Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection a try. Its light years ahead of Ice. I use it for about 90% of my client details.
Sealing or waxing in the Winter usually takes on a new attitude. Waxes and sealant behave differently under lower temps as well as lower humidities. Be patient, as sealants will take longer to crosslink with cooler temps.
If you by chance wait too long for removal, add a little QD to the removal microfiber to assist.

It's the ONLY wax I will ever use. I have been a loyal Mothers user until I heard great reviews on the Nxt Generation. I wax all year round, no garage needed. I just wait till we have a day that is not freezing cold. Also, I still only use Mothers Protectant on the interior. It doesn't leave streaks and spots and smells good!
