Aloha to all, and a Big Mahalo for all the great info on this Web site.
Sorry to make this such a long story, but...
After Much research, and visiting this site on a daily basis for many months, I finally bought the bullet and put cash (credit card) down on a new “E”.
I actually “inked” the deal back at the beginning of October, and was told it may take 4 to 8 weeks to locate the color I wanted (Tango Red). Well they finally located a vehicle last week which was in route to another dealer, however they discovered the vehicle had sustained minor bumper damage during transport so they refused the vehicle. They then located another vehicle slated for production and delivery to another dealership, however production on that vehicle had not yet started, and was at least one month away from delivery.
I was hoping to take advantage of the 0.9% financing from Honda, which would save me a lot of money over the life of the loan, however that offer ends January 2nd. My dealer did state that they “may” be able to lock in that rate even though the vehicle would not be delivered until the end of January. Then yesterday morning, just out of curiosity I went online to check my dealerships new vehicle inventory, and noticed they just received the same model E I want, but in Kiwi Metallic. The KM had originally been our first color choice, but we later decided to go with the Tango Red. We thought long and hard and decided we just didn’t want to wait another month, called the dealer up, and they said they would have the Kiwi E ready to go in the morning.
We originally tried shopping dealerships on other Islands, but they just didn’t want to play. I was even told by one dealer that they would not even try to match the price from my local dealer, plus I would have to pay to have the vehicle shipped over on the barge to my Island. I tried internet pricing, I tried phone calls and “haggling”, and I tried the CostCo pricing. One problem with living in Hawaii on an outer island, it really weakens your bargaining power.
I know I paid more for my E than most people on this site paid for AWD, or SC models, but hey, I’m happy with it, the entire transaction was painless, I got the 0.9% financing, and I’m glad to finally have my new E!
