: Ohio State #1
Big E 12-26-2007, 07:21 PM So, any yall looking forward to Jan. 7?
Plans set?
Watching with your same crew as the 03 (shared) Sabin championship?
Yer boys ready?
BigAl205 12-26-2007, 08:42 PM Ohio State FINALLY gets to play a real team:evil:.
accordn2me 12-26-2007, 10:30 PM I am sooooo ready (except I'll be back at work)! And I'm sure Les Miles and our Tigers are definitely ready. I'm just praying that our #11 QB keeps himself out of trouble and he's ready too.
As for the 2003 Championship......the BCS awards one crystal football... and the LSU TIGERS are in possession of it!
Big E 12-27-2007, 12:36 AM As for the 2003 Championship......the BCS awards one crystal football... and the LSU TIGERS are in possession of it!
I hear ya, but the AP only selects one champion as well, and in 03 it was USC.
accordn2me 12-27-2007, 07:59 AM I hear ya, but the AP only selects one champion as well, and in 03 it was USC.LOL! The only championship that means anything in this part of the country is the one that hands out the crystal football. :D

BrownSquirrel 12-27-2007, 09:25 AM Ohio State FINALLY gets to play a real team:evil:.
Since the Florida Gators arent a real team........ I guess last year doesnt count. What was the score.....41 to 14?
Let's see if they CHOKE like last year..........
Exactly my thoughts.
accordn2me 12-27-2007, 10:59 AM Since the Florida Gators arent a real team........ I guess last year doesnt count. What was the score.....41 to 14?
Exactly my thoughts.IMO, it wasn't a "choke." I think OSU played their best in the Sugar Bowl last year. And Florida played like the SEC powerhouse that they are. Our teams play harder schedules and more games than some other conference teams.
BigAl205 12-27-2007, 11:34 AM I wonder where they would rank if they had to face an SEC team every weekend?
Big E 12-27-2007, 01:14 PM LOL! The only championship that means anything in this part of the country is the one that hands out the crystal football.
Why the AP hating? Has LSU ever been deemed a National Champion by the AP? Or is LSUs only one the shared title in 03?
Choke?
That would infer that OSU showed up that day. They did not and Florida did. College football is a game of emotion and OSU did not have it that day and Florida did, hence the thumping. Half the team had been on the awards circuit eating prime rib and wondering how high they'd go in the draft. It happens... look at all the dismal Heisman performances in bowl games. And they had just come off a huge rivalry game with Bo Shembeckler dying the night before, AFTER trying to go wire to wire as number one. LSU tried to go wire to wire this year... how'd that work out? Not so easy. Bottom line, if you watched any OSU games last year, you know that the team in the NC game bore little resemblance to the rest of the year. And give credit to Florida, they provided the first big upset of 2007... at least OSU got upset by a quality team, unlike the 07 upsets of Michigan, USC, LSU, etc. People were pissed cause it was the only game on that day and it stunk!
As for this years game... as they say in the stock market... "past performance insures no guarantee of future returns." Even though OSU is in a rebuilding year and starts almost all underclassmen, and it's a home game for LSU, this will be a 3 point game... and I don't want to be Les Miles against Jim Tressel in a three point game.
LSU had better win... if not, they'll have a lot o' splainin' to do!
accordn2me 12-27-2007, 11:28 PM Why the AP hating? Has LSU ever been deemed a National Champion by the AP? Or is LSUs only one the shared title in 03?There is no AP hating here. We just don't count it (with the BCS in the picture). In this part of the world, in these days & times, Crystal Football = National Champions. There is only one. I'm not sure who deemed the 1958 team National Champions. Whoever it was....we count that!
... LSU tried to go wire to wire this year... how'd that work out? .....Umm, I'm not sure but I believe we started out number 2........seaux......won't we be at least number 2 when it's said and done?
And give credit to Florida, they provided the first big upset of 2007... at least OSU got upset by a quality team, unlike the 07 upsets of Michigan, USC, LSU, etc. People were pissed cause it was the only game on that day and it stunk!.............I hosted the game at my house on Kauai. No one was pissed, except the guy who bet my boyfriend $100 OSU would go undefeated for the year. Everybody else had a blast.
All SEC teams are "quality" teams, imo. Although, Arkansas wasn't ranked, Kentucky was and LSU lost both games in triple overtime. Nobody steam rolled over us this season. But you are right, I didn't watch any '06 OSU games. What was their difficulty of schedule? Honestly, how does it measure up against any SEC team's schedule? There ain't no ballerina schools on our schedules.
Big E 12-28-2007, 02:09 AM We just don't count it
In this part of the world
Pass me those rose colored glasses will you? So the worlds largest news gathering organization just doesn't cut the mustard in your world? Suddenly I'm a Trojan's fan.
I hosted the game at my house on Kauai. No one was pissed
Sometimes people make references with a wider scope in mind than say... the people who happen to be at your house for a party... but I will give you credit for weaseling the fact that you have a house in Hawaii in there. Oh, and this  means I was joking.
All SEC teams are "quality" teams, imo.
Love that SEC koolaid. Mississippi? Does Vanderbilt still field a team?
Honestly, how does it measure up against any SEC team's schedule?
The "mighty" SEC lost 2 of 3 bowl games to the "down" Big Ten last year. Gasp! Give it a rest. Don't buy the storyline. Conferences go up, conferences go down.
Anyway... good luck in the NC game! May the best team win. Will you be watching it at your house on Kauai?

I haven't seen Vandy around in a while! They probably had a real hard schedule.
This year, I'll be at my real home for the game. My Hawaii home was just for a year while I was taking a break from reality. Hopefully, I'll spend summers on Kauai until I retire there in a few years. The law of positive attraction says it can happen but so can a lot of other things!
The AP, ESPN, Harris, etc........they don't award the crystal football, not in my world, or yours. There is one crystal football and it goes to the National Champions. LSU has the one for 2003. That's what counts. 8-)
Big E 12-28-2007, 01:02 PM Do you sell Waterford?
The AP had been picking national champs since the mid-30s. As it suits you, you may chose to count only the (nine year old) BCS pick of LSU 03. But like it or not, USC fans and journalists and websites that list co-champions and other Element drivers (me) and the lucid among us do realize that the AP picked a champion... and in 03 it was USC. It's not a big deal, but discounting these facts because they don't jibe with your worlds preferences does not make it so.
Congrats on LSUs shared 03 NC! It's nothing to be ashamed of!
Lets hope for a good game and no injuries!
BigAl205 12-28-2007, 01:26 PM E-ple, e-ple. Let's keep this civilized. Besides everybody knows that the Crimson Tide is the best team. We're just going through a rough spot right now.
accordn2me 12-28-2007, 01:47 PM Please allow me to take this opportunity to introduce myself. Maybe then you will understand why I may not be as lucid as you are. My HS graduating class had about 25 people. The same 25 I started first grade with. We didn't have football in this extremely remote part of the world. I didn't even know football existed until about 1983. IIRC, LSU's defense was ranked 3rd in the country and we were playing Tulane in Death Valley for our last regular season game. They beat us. My husband and I lived in an apartment right next door to a vehement Tulane fan. She beat on the walls and screamed the entire game. Seaux, I learned early on that anything can happen and the best team does not always win.
Now, obviously, I don't know as much about the history of football as you do. I have no idea what group of pickers was assigned to award national championships in years past. Furthermore, I maybe mistaken or misinformed, whatever, but I believe currently, as in 2003, the BCS is the official namer of the national champion team. I'm under the impression that the AP is just one of the polls used to rank teams, but I'll readily admit that I don't know for sure what their role is. No matter, we have the crystal football for 2003, and no one else does! :D
This year, may the best team win! GEAUX TIGERS!

Big E 01-03-2008, 01:59 PM Worst fight song on the planet. TV should actually ask them to tone it down due to tune-outs! What is it? Three notes? Thats the best they could come up with? Second worst... Michigan's Victors. Yikes, tone deaf much?

Congrats on that. For perspective on this, here's a quote lifted from the Sports Illustrated website.
"It’s time to review this season’s bowl accomplishments of the SEC and view them in a context that exposes the truth behind the 6-2 record. I’ve rated each win on a standard 1-10 scale with 10 being the best. My ratings are based on how much the win confirmed, increased, or lowered the SEC’s reputation as the baddest of the bad. Any score under 5 means that the SEC’s reputation was damaged despite winning. Anything over 5 means that they’re reputation was kept intact or elevated. I concluded through this analysis that the SEC primarily won against lesser teams while playing virtual home games in SEC country. When they play quality teams they tend to lose. They also barely get past a lot of people, suggesting that their unstoppable dominator reputation is a complete myth."
Miss. St. 10-3 over Central Florida. This is highly unimpressive considering that MSU comes from the mighty SEC. They gave up 119 yds. to Smith and only managed 10 points. This was the season’s most boring bowl game played by the two teams least deserving of bowl spots. Quality of win: 2
Alabama 30-24 over Colorado. Alabama, who lost to Louisiana-Monroe in the regular season, barely held off a young and inconsistent Colorado team that was in a total shambles only a year ago. Further, Bama only had to drive 5 hours for this game in Shreveport, La. While CU had to travel from the Rocky Mountains, practically making it a home game for the Tide. Quality of win: 3.
Kentucky 35-28 over Florida State. What more needs to be said other than Kentucky barely escaped a mediocre team in chaos with 24 suspended players. Quality of win: 1.
Auburn 23-20 over Clemson. A good win over a good team that seems to always choke in the big games. Played in Atlanta, the capital of SEC country. Quality of win: 7.
Tennessee 21-17 over Wisconsin. A reasonably good win for the SEC runner-up over a tough team that lost three games in the Big Ten. However, the very close outcome does serious damage to the SEC’s reputation. Anyone with two eyes could see that Wisconsin was every bit as fast and athletic as Tennessee. The great myth starts to crumble, even in victory. Quality of win: 3.
Arkansas loses 38-7 to Missouri. This is a horrendous loss by a team that beat LSU, the SEC champ. In this case, the SEC is only redeemed by the fact that this is the one bowl where they were not matched up against a clear underdog. Still, they were blown off the field by a newbie to the top-tier of college football.
Florida loses 41-35 to Michigan. The Heisman Trophy winner and the reigning national champs, playing in their home state, get smacked around by a sloppy, turnover happy Michigan team that lost at home to Oregon, App. St. and Ohio St. Florida also gave LSU an incredibly tough game. After this game, the SEC’s reputation is all but shattered in the minds of everyone but the egomaniacal SEC.
Georgia 41-10 over Hawaii. The fact that this win comes in SEC territory against an out of their league Hawaii is adequate evidence that this game is a joke. Any good team from a BCS conference should be able to easily handle Hawaii. Quality of win: 2.
BrownSquirrel 01-03-2008, 03:39 PM Whoever wrote this article obviously has it out for the SEC, anyone can pick a conference apart like this person did. You can find flaws with every team in every conference.
This guy has an excuse for every lose and even makes the winning team look bad because “the other team had to travel to play”
Tennessee had Wisconsin’s Quarter back on the ground most of the game and had him limping after the first quarter. I am sure the writer can justify that by saying that Wisconsin’s o-line was tired from traveling. Give me a break. This guy sounds like the type of person that had an excuse every time he got beat one v one in basketball or let the winning touchdown score his senior year of high school, just accept the fact that you got beat. It’s always someone else’s fault and the winner never gets credit for winning because they didn’t do it the right way. Cant anyone just accept that maybe a team won because they where the better team that day, SEC or otherwise?
Big E 01-03-2008, 06:00 PM Cant anyone just accept that maybe a team won because they where the better team that day, SEC or otherwise?
Some can many can't... the problem is that it's become popular to use results from individual games to draw larger conclusions on regional or conference superiority. And sadly to some "fans" its soley about winning and not the actual enjoyment of the sport. Many sports fans identity is all tangled up in their teams success. Empty american lives? Lack of hobbies? To much TV watching? Not enough Element driving? Something.
And, to place his (her?) original quote in better context, he was responding, on a rather vitriolic site of college football nuts, to a person drawing greater conclusions from these individual victories... "SEC Conference is the greatest ever" kind of thing.
Just glad I don't have that kind of free time to waste on a sports site!!!! I'm busy trolling a car site!
For what it's worth... home field is huge. I think it will make the difference in the NC game... looking forward to it!

I would remind everyone that you (from Ohio) started this thread in the gulf coast chapter's area, so if we respond harshly don't act like we tinkled in YOUR swimming pool.
I will, however, agree that playing on a "home-field" is an advantage and I'm sure that if LSU wins that will be the biggest excuse. I wish that they would play on a neutral field but the bowl promoters place it where the revenue is.
Big E 01-04-2008, 12:25 PM I have not noticed any harshness on these posts.
FYI, the "free time to waste on a sports site" was a humerous poke at the person who took time to rebuff each SEC bowl game on the Sports Illustrated site.
Hope that clarifies.
BTW, our swimming pools are all frozen up here.

Big E 01-04-2008, 09:11 PM Yikes.
First of all, my response was to BigAl who said "so if WE respond harshly..." He was refering to your fellow pro-SEC Gulf Coast EOC folks. To be uber clear I guess I could have said "I have not noticed any harshness from the pro-SEC Gulf Coast EOC folks."
And number B, unless selling Waterford constitutes meaness south of the Mason-Dixon OR west of Oahu... I don't think I was ever mean to you... but if you think I was, just enjoy it in the spirit it was meant.
So, any predictions?
accordn2me 01-04-2008, 09:29 PM I predict your swimming pool is going to thaw out by March 31st.
