If the '08 SC is anything like all the other XM equipped E's, the XM antenna is built into the base of the AM/FM antenna and the tuner is behind the rear cargo panel by the 12v outlet.

and it has a proprietary antenna plug with separate terrestrial and satellite antenna lines, so if you're trying to integrate it into something else, you might find it a difficult task.

I was preparing pics for another post, and figured I'd throw this one out there. I always wanted to see what this area looked like before. The metal box is the factory XM tuner.

that definately looks like a pioneer tuner from the picture... I guess I just have to take the side apart and look at what I am dealing with...

thanks...

I believe I have the pioneer ip bus cable pinout. If you don't, let me know, and I'll post it.

Yes, but that's 50% of the solution.

The factory XM pinout is in the service manual. Here's my best effort at describing it, from pages 22-184 and 22-185 of the '06 version:

Connector on Radio (looking at the side of the connector where the wires go in):
.____.____. .____.____.____.____.
| D1 | D2 | | D3 | D4 | D5 | D6 |
|----|----|----.----.----|----|----|----|----|
| D7 | D8 | D9 | D10| D11| | D12| D13| D14|
'----'----'----'----'----' '----'----'----'

Cavity Wire Connects to
D1 -- Not used
D2 ORN XM Receiver (ACC)
D3 BRN Shielding
D4 GRY Shielding
D5 WHT XM Receiver (R+)
D6 RED XM Receiver (L+)
D7 -- Not used
D8 -- Not used
D9 BLU XM Receiver (BUS+)
D10 PNK XM Receiver (BUS-)
D11 -- Not used
D12 -- Not used
D13 BLK XM Receiver (R-)
D14 GRN XM Receiver (L-)

The XM tuner itself has a connector on it that's the exact same shape with the same pinout. The only differences are:

Pins 1 & 7 are WHT/RED: constant power
Pin 3 is not used, instead of being for shielding
Pin 11 is BLK: Ground

Here's a cropped version of my shot that shows the XM tuner itself clearer:

Wow, that might just be the last piece of the puzzle. Anyone have a pioneer cable? I'll see if I can get my hands on one tomorrow.

It would be cool if it hooked up directly to the Pioneer bus.

The xm bus is right behind the radio. I'm going to see if I can plug into it tomorrow, if I have time. I have 4 hours of post midnights tomorrow, so it might have to wait until Friday.

A lot of work due to the cold snap, and I still haven't gotten my hands on a pioneer cable. I'm working on it...

Pins 1, 5, and 8 are all that is needed for the SPI interface.

Same thing, only three wires for control. D2, D9, D10 I believe D2 abbreviation "ACC" is access; not accessory. In SPI, this is the pulse that starts and stops the communication. *EDIT* And the BUS + and - are really txd and rxd.
What's Pioneer IP bus anyway. Pioneer doesn't have their own comm protocol. And isn't the XM receiver also made by Alpine?

*SIDE BAR*
So glad I disconnected the XM connector behind the radio. Next will be to disconnect, and sh*t can the receiver.

So are you guys saying it would be possible to use the factory XM receiver could be used with an aftermarket radio like say a Pioneer AVIC-F900BT or any other XM ready Head Unit??
