Well, I'm finally doing what I said I was going to do last year. Getting a custom paint job for my E. It will be done (hopefully) next weekend, but here's some before and during the transformation pictures.

First up, my E as it was when I bought it.

Then a side view of it in the shop. It will be Tangerine Metallic on the bottom and a candied rootbeer with copper pearl on the top. The dividing pinstripes will be a marblized silver opal effect.

I'm also having the dashboard dial rings painted the candied rootbeer, and the driver & passenger windows will be tinted too!

I'll post pictures of the finished product when I get it back but here are some pictures of it before and during......

(also having the miss matched front fender repainted. It came from the factory like that!)

In case you were wondering, the roof had already been painted a couple days ago, that's why it's covered up.

You can see some of the parts hanging that have been sprayed in the second picture here.

I'm very excited to get my baby back in a few days! :smile:

(They won't reveal some secrets to me about the copper pearl that was added to the candy color, but there is 6 coats of candy on the E at this point. The combination with the copper pearl, they asked me not to reveal, so that it can't be duplicated.....)

I've also had them spray on a clear coat protective bra using some sort of chip resistance spray. You can see the faint line in the third picture. Before I had this added, I had gotten a really nasty chip in my front end. :mad:

Now the sanding begins........ :evil:

Nice color BlueWillow! What color is that? What are your ultimate plans for the end result aside from paint will there be any graphics, spoiler or any other exterior mods? Can't wait to see the end product and I know it's going to be on point!

It's a custom mixed color. They started with a candy rootbeer and then added a copper pearl flake to it and it's sprayed over the tangerine metallic. As far as other mods, I've not quite decided what else I'm doing. It's a work in progress! :D

Sounds great! I can't wait to see the finished product as I stated before. Nothing like seeing people doing things to their Elements to make them different or set them apart from the rest of the pack. I know Chief is another doing the same thing with his and I say from a personal stand point his is going to be real nice in addition to everything else he's done to it. I applaude you guys and gals for what you do and how you do, when you do. Also I hope to personally see yours as well BlueWillow in one of my excursions to Cincy or at the National meet one year.

More photos...... The first one is the wet sanding process, then the hood washed off, and then a small sample of the two colors side by side.

Here are the first pictures of it buffed and unmasked. They're going to unmask the roof tomorrow.

Trully unique!!! I like the look. Just a suggestion, you should have the fuel lid for the gas cap painted in your new color. I think that would look very sharp.

The cost to have it done for me is just the cost of the materials. My husband is doing the work. He's been a Collision Tech/Painter for 20 years. It will be a rolling advertisement for his shop. In fact a passerby saw it sitting in one of the bays (the overhead door was open) and loved the color combo, so he booked a job (similar scheme, slightly different colors) just because my vehicle was sitting there. I may never get it back! :lol:

It will be done this weekend, by the way, so I'll have final pictures probably on Sunday. Stay tuned! :D

I was wondering how you were getting in there taking all those "As we move along, transformation pics". The average shop wants you outta there until its done. Lucky you on having someone who has a trade. Hopefully I'll get to see it first hand in Columbus at the National Meet June 20-22.
