This is the beginning of my stage installation. I installed the radio with the Ipod sitting in the pocket for right now. It's controlled via the radio's USB connector and I will make a permanent home for it when I build my center console. I have Polk Audio DB6501 components in the front doors and Polk DB651 coaxials in the rear. Right now the system and OEM sub are running off the facory amp but I have an Alpine 4-channel amp I'm going to put under the passenger seat. I also have a Soundstream Reference 300 amp to run 2 JL Audio 12's when I get around to installing them. Other than that, I got my windows tinted 35% and put on my EOC badge. More updates to come...

I also ran 4-gauge wire thru the firewall for my power. I just popped out the diamond-shaped cutout, drilled a hole, inserted a grommet and siliconed it.

Just wonderin, why you didn't use the stock location for the tweeters? Oh, and you might want to look into the CD-BTB200 bluetooth adapter. It makes talkin' on the phone and driving a safer, more gooder experience. My headunit has the bluetooth portion built in, and I'm so glad I got it...

nicely photo-documented! quick question, would it be worthwhile for me to just swap out my front door speakers with the Polk DB6501? i would like to keep the remainder of my stuff stock (stock HU, amp, sub). if switching out the door speakers is any improvement without making any other changes, i'd like to give it a try.

thanks for any advice.

Thanks guys. I actually left the tweeter wires hanging and over several days moved the tweeter around to different locations to find the "sweet spot". To my ears this location had the best imaging and sound. I would definately reccoment swaping the factory speakers even if using the facory amp ad HU. Like my grandfather used to say, "Any improvement would be an improvement."

hey! i got that same head unit! probably the sickest looking head unit out there for the element, it looks so clean it integrates itself right into the dash so it doesnt look aftermarket.

the only prob i have with it is that it glitches in hot weather.

you should have your Ipod cable (if you have one) run from the back of the head unit (thats where it connects), cut a clean hole in the center of the din below and come out there so you can just connect and forget the ipod in the din and use the controls form the unit. its clean and looks like factory that way.:D

That's the way I have it now. I have a USB cable running from the back of the HU to the Ipod cable. I have all the cable wrapped up and sticking in the pocket with the Ipod. The only reason I didn't run the Ipod cable directly to the radio is because I also have a flash drive that I occasionally plug into the USB cable.

As far as heat, I haven't had any problems and I've had it almost a year.

Do you happen to have the part number for that DIN? I have only found the Scosche HA1701B so far, I can't tell if it is the same one you have...

we need to know the year of your truck so we can be sure you get the right part. dash changed in 07 on the little trim that goes around the radio

I gotta back you up on this one. That is the spot I chose for my tweeters as well. I tried almost every location conceivable. I removed the dome of the factory molded tweeter grill and recovered my pillars in matching headliner material too. It seemed to help (1) reduce reflections of the tweeter off the pillar itself (2) help reduce reflections from the opposing tweeter. (I will get some pics of that too..)

I totally forgot I posted on this thread LOL. I have an 07' EX, thanks ahead for the help. I have seen 2 different schosche models, and a metra model. Don't know which one is the right one.
