: Anyone interested in Cedar Point, OH Sunday (June 22, 2008)?
spdrcr5 01-19-2008, 07:51 AM I know the Northeast Group has discussed heading here at one time or another and this seems like the perfect time to do it.
*Cedar Point Amusement Park (http://www.cedarpoint.com/) - Sandusky, OH
Cedar Point is only 2 hours north of Columbus so we can get there before lunch and stay until closing. Their hours are 10am-10pm.
So, who's up for this side trip on the way home? We can find a cheap hotel/motel near the park.
Here's the current list, please let me know if I've missed anyone:
Larry & Rachel (EOC/ROC)
Gaily (EOC)
Jake (EOC)
Paul & Lacy (EOC)
Valerie & Friend (EOC)
DogBoneRTL + GF (ROC)
Dom.five 01-19-2008, 07:57 AM Count us out the Pat's are playing at home on Sunday ! :D
Dom
Ps:Larry you may wish to put a date on it.

I do love amusement parks, but I'll have to see about how much vacation time I have and if I want to use it on that, as I'd have to take another day.
Jake_62 01-19-2008, 11:25 AM You can absolutely count me in.
kissya 01-19-2008, 11:27 AM I've been there and done that....:)

psst.... Don, this is posted in the forum for the 2008 National Meet and refers to the Sunday when everyone heads home. But just for you... June 22, 2008. The Pats will be in 2 a days by then, not in a playoff game. Best tell Pat you need stronger meds!
Justin that last part was for you. :)
cai88 01-19-2008, 03:51 PM We're in Larry and I bet ya Gaily is too.
ORANGEE 01-19-2008, 04:24 PM I don't know who told you it was only 2 hours away but you'd better plan on @ least 3 hours from Columbus to the park - can be 4 hours with heavy traffic in Northern Ohio..................personal experience

I went to Google maps and it shows 120 miles. By my calculations it should be 2 hours give or take a few minutes.

I figured you guys would want to go. :)

Good Luck with that.............you have been warned!
chozn4service 01-20-2008, 10:08 AM I may be up for this. I've never been to Cedar Point but always wanted to go. Depends on whether we bring the two dogs with us and the fact that Kings Island is closer and we have work on Monday. We'll see though.
Peace!
cai88 01-21-2008, 04:25 PM Larry any chance we could get a group rate if we get enough people?
spdrcr5 01-23-2008, 07:11 AM Larry any chance we could get a group rate if we get enough people?
I don't see why not.
Jake_62 01-26-2008, 10:56 AM Larry any chance we could get a group rate if we get enough people?
Some general info...
Regular ticket price for a full day - $42.95
Group rate per person (minimum 15 people / reserve at least 1 week in advance) - $32.00
Parking for the day - $10.00
Sunday is a lower attendance day.
June is a low attendance month.
If we don't get 15 people, I can get discounted tickets from AAA. I'm pretty sure the discount through AAA is $10.00, but I'll call them on Monday to double check. If you've never been to Cedar Point, you can look forward to an awesome day. This place has never let me down.
spdrcr5 01-26-2008, 03:22 PM Google probably doesn't show you all the (continual) construction zones on Ohio roads. :-(
The good news is, Ohio State Police take credit cards to settle the fines on the spot. :-)
Cedar Point is a blast. One tip: Take along a loose over-shirt. If it's really hot and sunny, everybody will be lining up for the water rides. You can take the shirt and soak it in a rest-room sink and wear it while riding 5-6 coasters in the same time it'll take to stand in line for one water ride.
You best be getting yourself to this meet! Everyone needs to buy you lots of drinks for all of the help you have provided to us since you joined the EOC.
Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for checking Jake. I think we can get 15 people, we're already halfway there. It's still early for people to decide. As it gets closer and the park opens to selling tickets I can begin collecting money and seeing how many people are serious about going.
I also posted a link to this thread and made a similar one over on the ROC (http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19559) to see if anyone there would want to join us.
Brent Foster 01-26-2008, 04:11 PM i'm interested, but i'll stick to the tamer rides instead.
just the thought of me on a coaster causes an acute form of "irritable bowel syndrome".....:???::shock::cry:
spdrcr5 01-30-2008, 11:09 AM Hmmm... JD you have a point there. I hadn't thought about the whole humiliation thing that we can do to a stealership mechanic.
Gaily 01-30-2008, 05:56 PM I might feel safer if I did a poll first:
A: I'd like to buy JD a drink because he seems like a good guy and I enjoy his posts.
OR
B: I'd like the opportunity to get a Honda Technician drunk, strip him to his underwear, spray paint 'EOC' on his chest and duct-tape him to a steet post as a warning to all stealership mechanics not to upsell any maintenance packages to Element owners.
HT you don't need a pole for the option you "really want" the misfits will gladly accommodate you. :D
BXGR8R 01-30-2008, 06:03 PM I dunno about Cedar Point, I am not a big fan of coasters. Here is a pic of me on of the most frightening rides of my life. http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v152/106/14/787478975/n787478975_386023_8634.jpg

Alright Larry, Lacy and I are down for this...now all we gotta do is make our hotel reservations for the E-vent and its on like Donkey Kong. We may even book a local hotel to stay an extra day and enjoy the park (and the rides we may have missed) hassle free.

YEAH! Looking forward to both of you coming to the E-vent then on to Cedar Point. :)
I replied to your PM.
Elemen-O-P 06-03-2008, 01:35 PM Okie Dokie...thought I'd revive this thread to see how many of us are ACTUALLY booked on the idea and ready to do this!!??
The wife and I have already made reservations at the nearby La Quinta Inn in Sandusky (http://www.lq.com/lq/properties/propertyProfile.do?ident=LQ855&propId=855) (mostly because they have in-room jacuzzi's) for Sunday the 22nd and are ready for some serious fun. We'll just wait and see whether we order tickets ahead of time, or just get them at the gate.
At any rate...the plan for us is to check out of the Hilton in Dublin between 7-9am and jet on up to Sandusky with a stop for breakfast at some point. Hopefully arrive at the park sometime around noon and enjoy the rest of the day inside until closing.
SO WHO'S IN!? :D
Rocket Dog 06-03-2008, 01:37 PM I'll be there with the Rocket Dog clan on the 16th and 17th. Driving back to VA on the 22nd.
spdrcr5 06-04-2008, 09:23 PM I am still going to Cedar Point. I'll check into Group Sales Friday or Monday... I finish my ITIL v3 class tomorrow and will have time after that. I have been swamped the last 2 weeks and things should finally calm down a bit until the National Meet. lol
Edit: I just took a minute to see if the info is online and it is. Here is the deal with Group Sales and how I think we should handle it. I will call tomorrow or Friday to confirm we can do this how I want.
For 15 or more people Cedar Point considers that a group. The tickets would cost us $32/each if paid together this would save us $12/each. Since we don't know who is interested what we can do is have everyone who is interested give me their names during check-in and I will collect the money from everyone. Once I have everyone's money I will call Cedar Point and reserve the tickets on my credit card. We will then all travel together Sunday and spend the day there after lunch until closing at 10pm.
If that is satisfactory to everyone then that would be the plan. Just please confirm in this thread that you are still interested and lets hope we have at least 15 people. :)
I still need to find a hotel for Sunday night...

valeriE 06-05-2008, 08:26 PM Wow. That looks AMAZING. We are gonna have so much fun rippin' it up.
spdrcr5 06-06-2008, 12:14 PM I arranged for the Group Sales with Cedar Point just now. The group name will be EOC, I am down as the group leader and contact person. We need 15 or more people to arrive at the Group Sales Office together on Sunday June 22. The cost will be $32/ticket. If we don't get 15 or more people then we will each pay the regular price of $42.95/ticket.
When you check-in at registration please make sure to find me and I will get you onto a list.
I am posting this on the ROC as well.
JPH102900 06-06-2008, 12:45 PM The wife and I are going on thursday before the meet. We are going to stay in the attached hotel on wednesday night for like $55 bucks which isn't too bad. If you stay in this hotel you get to go into the park an hour or two before the general public to get to all of the good rides. Then we got our tickets through AAA for like $33 bucks or something.

See you there! 757 from the ROC and friends are going to meet up with me and my family Thursday morning. You and my son Eddie can discuss the finer points of Mario Bros Brawl. :-P
Elemen-O-P 06-06-2008, 02:01 PM Wow..quite a few heading into the park pre-Big Event... hopefully we'll get some takers for the Sunday following.
I'm still envisioning a full train of EOC'ers and ROC'ers on the Top Thrill Dragster... we'll have to try and get it to Rollback!

spdrcr5 06-11-2008, 11:16 PM I have a surprise announcement. Rachel is flying in friday night. We're going to go to Cedar Point then drive home. She has to be at work by 10am monday. We'll split the driving so she can be there.
She's looking forward to seeing everyone.

SWEET!!! Can't wait to meet ya!
I don't know about everyone else, but the wife and I are staying at the La Quinta Inn in Sandusky (http://www.lq.com/lq/properties/propertyProfile.do?ident=LQ855&propId=855). Not the cheapest, but we wanted a jacuzzi room after beating the pavement all day. But there're plenty of hotels in the area, even on the island that Cedar Point is on. So you've got plenty of choices, with a wide range of prices.

TOO COOL!!! We can't wait to meet the (in)famous Rachel. ;-)
1 more week to go!!!
JPH102900 06-12-2008, 11:51 AM Count Jake & me in for this. We're looking into cheap hotels. Where is everyone staying?
My wife and I are driving out on wednesday and staying at "Breakers Express" on wednesday night so that we can go to the park first thing Thursday morning. Breakers Express is one of Cedar Point's hotels so we get to go into the park an hour before the general public through the back gate to get to all of the good rides first. It is only like $100 a night plus tax and we got our tickets through AAA for $33 I think. Doesn't seem like too bad of a deal to me.
spdrcr5 06-13-2008, 07:43 AM I added a list of people that say they will be going to Cedar Point Sunday to the first post. Anyone else like to join us? We're up to 10 people going, we need at least 5 more to get the Group Discount. Come on, we'll have lots of fun. :-)
Carly, are you and Rick going to still be going considering the "condition" you're in? ;-)
Rocket Dog 06-16-2008, 10:34 PM The Rocket Dog clan did Cedar Point today, had a blast. A few tips, bring a hard case for your glasses or wear one of those retaining straps for your glasses. Pants or shorts with cargo pockets to tuck away your keys and glasses. Sun Screen.
The lines were fine except for the top rides: Top Thrill Dragster ride was awesome, but we waited 90 minutes for it. Maverick was also a great ride but not worth waiting 90 minutes. Milineum Force was a great ride and not much of a wait. Magnum XL was a very good ride, almost no wait. Most rides were less than a 20 minute wait. We had lunch at Chick Fil-A in the park, $10.30 for the basic chicken sandwich, fries, and a drink.
Fun day, but we won't do a second day there.
spdrcr5 06-16-2008, 11:17 PM Thanks Rocket Dog for the info.
How many hours did you spend?
Elemen-O-P 06-17-2008, 09:53 AM The lines were fine except for the top rides:
Hopefully this will hold true for us on Sunday. Out here on the West coast, amusement parks can run a little thinner on a Sunday, but not nearly as thin as, say a Monday-Thursday. The upside is that since it will be a Sunday, the crowds shouldn't stay too late if they all have to be back to work on Monday....which means we can hit the BIG rides later in the night.
Thanks for the info RD!
