: Element getting squirrelly at high speed

Yesterday, I was following a few vehicles up I-45. We were travelling at 85 mph most of the time, except for a short stretch when we were cruising between 90 and 95 mph. My Element started to feel squirrelly, sorta like the front end was trying to "quiver" or "vibrate" as it approached 95. It was almost like some sort of a harmonic effect.

Has anyone else experienced that effect :?:

Haven't expereinced in my E, but did in my Isuzu Trooper one time. Turned out the tires were worn unevenly because I did not rotate them enough. Had to replace all four.

Wow? really? I've had the E up to the 112mph limit and it felt very stable. I routinely have it up to 85 - 90 on the highway with no problem.

Was it even a little bit windy?

How long did it take you to get it there? My old Saturn coupe was limited at 124 or so and would get there pretty quickly, but it was much more aerodynamic than the E.

There wasn't much wind at all.... In fact, I've had it in severe weather (purple on the radar screen) and it was rock solid. Most all cars had pulled off the hiway, except for me. I had to be in Dallas at a certain time, so I had to keep moving. I was impressed with the ride during that 7 miles of serious weather.

I'll check the tire balance. There is a possibility that being slightly off, that might be my problem. We'll see.

If it feels funny bring it by the dealer. I wouldn't take a chance even if they say it is okay and down the road it does it again at least they have it down that you had the problem before.

Just keep in mind that if you get clocked doing 20mph or more over the posted speed limit you will lose your license for 1 year (in North Carolina at least).

Alien is right. It's the same here in NY except you not only lose your license but you get arrested and a fine.

In California if you are only doing 20 over the speed limit everyone (including the CHP) will honk at you to get out of the way!!

I've had my E for 3 weeks now and on the Superstitions Freeway here in Arizona at 60 -60 MPH by E feels like it's being buffeted by wind just like when you are in the eddies of a large truck. Last week we had a windy day and by the time I was home I was worn out, it wanted to be all over the place. I don't believe that this is correct and by reading the other post I know it's not. I will be going to the dealers.

Thanks,

My first time on the interstate my Element felt like it was going to be knocked over by the wind. I have not experienced that since then. I think it depends on which way the wind is hitting you. Being that it is so tall and upright I guess thats only natural that it reacts like that.

I go across a couple of bridges on my commute to work and it gets knock around alot from the wind because of its shape. Like you said.
