I just noticed (not as observant as some of you) that some of you are greyhound and Italian Greyhound owners like us. I wonder how many are members here? This is a picture of our "boys" this past Christmas.

We have a cat named Cocoa to keep our IGs company. The fawn is Bailey, and he is 8 years old. The sable is Tanner and he is 7 years old. People who love IGs are the greatest people in the world.......:D:D

They haven't taken a ride in the Element yet, maybe this weekend!

One word of advice, don't let them drive.

They are very cute. There was an IG in Kane's obedience class. We joked that he was Kane's "mini me".

LOL!!!!!!, great advice. BTW, how did Kane do in obedience class? We took both of ours and umm....well, Bailey had to repeat the basic class, and Tanner needed it again:|

Bluewillow's Maggie looks a lot like out Tanner, but Tanner is a BIG boy. Our vet calls him SHAQ of iggies.

Kane did very well, but he has a hard time sitting due to bio-mechanics, i.e. his long legs make it difficult for him to sit. Also, both our dogs seem to get bored very quickly doing the same tricks, so they will usually walk away and go lay down. He did finish the class and he got his certificate.

Tomorrow we are hosting our first Meet & Greet at our local Petsmart. It is a chance for people to meet the greyhounds and learn about the breed. We are very excited. These events generate alot of adoptions for SEGA (Southeastern Greyhound Adoption), where we got our boys.

I asked my wife if she would consider getting an IG, and she said no, because we already have cats. I think they are cute and would be fun, provided you don't break them.:D

I have a friend in Tallahassee who had 2 wolfhounds. They are very sweet and gentle. I checked in on them once when he was out of town, and the first time I entered his house without him there I was apprehensive as to how they would react to me. They promptly showed me to all of the valuables and the fine silverware. They were great dogs.

I spent some time, when I had time with the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT). I would help with the Meets and Greets around the Dallas area. My husband and I would love to get a big greyhound, but we have limited space in our home ( already full of IGs and one remaining cat).

The Iggies are less fragile than they look. Give em a try!

Thanks everyone, glad you enjoyed my little Beezer family. They're great dogs. Overall they're pretty mellow but they can be busy-bodies and avid counter surfers when your back is turned. They aren't quite as laid back as Greyhounds but they do love their couches and creature comforts :-)

Here ya go BlueWillow, all the beezer pics you could stomach :-)

No, I didn't make them. I got them from AandB Originals. The pattern looks fairly simple and I suppose if I ever actually sat down and tried, it probably would not be that hard to make  I know how to crochet, but I just can't seem to finish a project

:) I understand completely! I used to crochet when I was younger and had more energy than time or money. Of course, my idea of crochet was making a blanket; straight and simple. There is NO WAY I could make something like a IGGY sweater.

Hazen & Mike are really growing up to be big boys! It amazes me that they like the ocean so much. Honestly, Bailey won't walk through a puddle...Tanner will walk through a puddle if it gets him dirty.....the dirtier the better for Tanner.

I have placed greyhounds since about 1990, so lots of hounds have been in the Element that I got Christmas Eve eve in 2003. I have absolutely no pics with hounds in it though.
Here is one of my present greyhounds. My black-with-white one is Athena, who I got as a puppy 5 years ago. My blue-with-white one is Rabbit (Tyville Reb), who I got last Oct. directly from an owner at the Dairyland Track (raced that afternoon and dropped off in town same day).
Here is a link to Rabbit's record:
http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?d=tyville+reb&sex=&color=&birthyear=&birthland=

I was going to post pics, but don't have any on a website that I can fetch. Will have to do so on another day.

Figured out how to post -- hope it works now...

Goofcat - Once you look into the soft eyes of a greyhound, you are forever lost in them. I am very excited for you and can't wait to see the pics of your baby!

Oh, that's not MY backyard...well, at one point it was...but it's my Aunt/Cousin's home. My cousin grew up riding dirt bikes and BMX bikes, and being his parents owned land and a bunch of fancy toys(tractors, etc) he quickly learned how to make jumps/tracks.

Somehow through all of his biking he (my cousin) has met all sorts of famous people. His jumps have been made famous for being in the first 'Jack@ss' movie, Vans commericials/advertisements and other things like that. He has had all sorts of kool things happen there.

When I lived there, I didn't have my dogs. When I visited my aunt the other day, we were all hanging out front the house and I started thinking about what the boys (my IG's) would do with the jumps (and what I could do using them as photo props)...and tada!

Mike really liked them- he was running up them and nearly pulling off my husbands' arm in the process, as the leash wasn't long enough- inevitably, my husband got a workout. :P

It looks like the Element calmed them right down. They look like real sweet hearts! I still need to get some pictures of my boys in the E. I guess I am kind of like the plumbers wife...I'm married to a professional photographer and never have a camera handy

They are always excited to go for a ride in the car, of course. Actually, Rabbit (the blue one) was smiling when I said "Smile".

goofcat - any word yet on getting your hound?

Thanks for asking. I put in an application over a week ago, someone finally contacted me. I'll know more after I speak to them today. Waiting that week was not fun!

I'll post pics whenever the adoption happens.

The waiting is worth it. Be prepared for a greyhound lifelong commitment of service. These hounds are very special. Most of the rescue greyhounds have already given a lifetime of service and deserve a cushy couch for the rest of their lives (except for the fun walks and such). :D

thank you Jet!!!!!!! i have to say the door configuration has been perfect for transporting Guinness in and out--i just can't imagine how difficult it would be to haul him up in any other type of vehicle. the Element sure comes in handy for this time in our lives.

You must be really muscular and fit at this point. Even though, you can tell that Guinness is content to be where he is...I just want to give him a big squeeze hug! I can't imagine a better vehicle for taking care of all kinds of things 'we' need.

He is available for adoption with Italian Greyhound Rescue, but he need to settle down a bit and get fixed. He may be available in about a month!

IGs are quite a bit smaller than the Greyts. There run anywhere from 6lbs on the small side and 20 lbs as biggie iggies.

All my Iglets are doing well, jea!

And yes those ears are quite ridiculous!

Jet109
10-19-2008, 09:48 AM
Wow, I am so tempted to take Radar! For so many reasons (we don't discuss the details in front of "our boys", they would get a complex) Radar would fit in perfect. They would be a wonderful trio. Ohio is a long way from Texas

Sorry Haven't posted for a while...here's another...

and well, Radar seems to have more problems than just big ears. He is going in Monday for an EKG and chest xrays. It is possibly a big issue.

Cute and active as ever. I call Purdue today to get his appointment set up for February.
I actually have a foster that came back into rescue after he ended up in liver failure because he was depressed and stopped eating. Levi is his name. He is on medication now but the first 2-3 days I had him I was afraid he was going to die.
I have a full house!

Heres a picture of my 3 headed dog (from left to right) Radar, Levi, and Nicky.

I can't believe I just found this thread. My wife and I have/are owned by an iggy named Einstein. He was a rescue from a home that loved him but did not have time for him. He was in a crate 12-16 hours a day. Now he is on the sofa or the bed 22-24 hours a day when he's not obsessively squeaking one of his many squeaker toys.

I actually bought my Honda so I could haul my Greyhound around. I only had him for about a year - some changes in my working habits / requirements forced me to find him a new home. Upgrade for him though...they had other greyhounds and a much bigger yard!! Previously I had a Ford ranger with a topper and a rigged up electric heater. The Element, dog or no dog, is so much handier!!

I was looking through my other hard drive and came across a picture of Einstein after we first got him. He was underweight for an iggy. At the same time he was laying in a very similar position in a very similar sunspot at our new place, so I snapped a picture of him to show a side by side of how he looked then and how he is now. Enjoy.

- Edit -

Threw in a pic of him riding in the backseat of Tungsten (the E) after a long weekend at his grandparents house.

Just adding to the list, we have a Red Fawn greyhound who loves his element.

He can jump into the back without the tail gate being lowered.

Your husband wouldn't want to donate an old camera to an up and coming photographer, would he? :D:grin: My old (circa 1985) Pentax finally died last month.

This thread has been idle for a bit too long, so I figured I'd post another pic of E(instein) in his E.

Wow, I love this thread! Its so cool seeing such a mix of hounds!
Caramel the Silken Windhound is patiently waiting for an E of her very own. She does okay with the echo but it gets a little tight when her big bro Indy (the 90lb lab/husky) and her auntie Lucy (greyhound/dobie mix) all get in too, which is at least 5 days a week!
