: Iced Element
Officer Mike 02-23-2008, 02:29 PM Well, after two ice storms in two weeks I can proudly say that the Element is just about the best bad weather vehicle you can drive. I drove the E' through deeper ice then I probable should have but the damn thing goes so well that I couldn't help myself. On the night of 2/10/08 Southern Illinois was hit with the worst ice storm in many years. We amassed nearly 4.5 inches of ice causing week long power outages and more downed trees than a tornado. I watched people in Jeeps, Explorers and Blazers slipping and sliding and visiting ditches all over the county and my little E' just rolled along like it was dry pavement. I even had to drive past my dad who was having trouble getting to his house in his lifted 32" tired Cherokee. I drove through a bank of plowed ice nearly 18" thick that he was floundering in, stopped, said hi and drove up to the house and waited on him. My dad was so impressed that he is now looking for a used E' for himself. The second ice storm though not as deep coated the county in a 1/2 inch of glass that is still causing problems for people. My parents live on a pretty good sized hill which I parked on then took off just to prove the E's capability. GOD I LOVE THIS THING. We haven't had more then 5 inches of snow all year but we have more then made up for it in ice.
Anybody else have any bad weather driving stories? Lets hear them.
Brawsie 02-23-2008, 03:36 PM Graeat story! That is too funny OM.:lol::lol:
I had a blast motoring around here in Ne when we iced up a few weeks back.:-D
No story to tell really. No news is good news right?
hiker chick 02-23-2008, 04:54 PM Those sound like great photo ops.....
We're pic dependent around here. ;-)
I thought ice was the great equalizer. Is the Element AWD system (do you have AWD) really superior?
Mine has been fantastic in up to a foot of unplowed snow. No ice experience, though. Good to know the E is capable.
nardo 02-23-2008, 05:22 PM Well friday was one week of ownership on our E so I still have yet to find the limits on the 4wd but we did get like 3 inches of snow thursday night. Friday I "stole" the E from my G/F telling her she was safer driving my vw with studded tires. I took the E to my parents house out in the country and driving on the snow covered roads was like driving on dry pavement. their driveway is prolly 1/8th a mile long, stones, unplowed. I drove as fast as I could while going around trees and I couldn't get it to slip or slide at all. I'm half tempted to just take it out into a snow covered field to see what the E can take:-D
Officer Mike 02-23-2008, 05:43 PM It is the AWD E'. I didn't get to take any pics cause I spent most of the week working doubles cause the other officers in my dept. couldn't get out. By the way, one of them has a Dodge 4x4 and the other has a Jeep Wrangler and a Z-71 Chevy. They were stuck for 4 days.8-)

Officer Mike 02-24-2008, 10:36 AM Was that the same stom that hit So.Il. around the 11th or the 21st? That is pretty much what we looked like here. We even got about 2-3 inches of snow to top it off lastnight.
protaganis 02-24-2008, 10:43 PM Okay, gotta ask. Who make that sexy brushbar. That looks just awesome. I've looked around for something similar, but no luck...

AAaaahHhhhh!!!
No it is not the Hunter bar. That is the Aries Bar.
I had alot of problems with the Hunter bar, even though others have used it and it worked fine. I love my Aries Bar and would highly recommend you spend a little more for the better bar.
The Aries is a solid bar not 3 pieces like the Hunter. After having seen both I just think the Aries is a better buy even at the higher price.
BTW. Here is the post showing my problem with the Hunter.

wolfhounder 02-26-2008, 06:51 AM great story Mike! i agree it is great in the winter conditions---i only wish it had a little more clearance:mad:
superjet 02-26-2008, 10:11 AM That picture of the CBR-R is JUST WRONG!
stocazzo 02-26-2008, 11:20 AM BigT - those pics are great!
Officer Mike - Love the story! I slid sideways out of a parking spot in front of my house the other night because of melting ice/freezing temps. It was funny but not too funny.
I haven't had any problems, though. We've got about 85 inches of snow this winter and I haven't had ONE real problem driving. Well... I guess the only problem is that everyone wants me to drive but they don't want to pay for gas.

For the love o'pete. Shave that thing would ya.
Wolfhounder... I agree. The 18" of ice I drove through was a bit much. I could hear all kinds of stuff dragin'. It was still fun though.
Anyone know how to stand a tree back up? I have a giant Bonzai thats layin' over and since I can't replace it, I want to fix it. It's not broke, it just pulled up from the ground.
