: Rewiring the power outlets for constant power
mo dman 09-27-2003, 05:04 PM I finally figured out an easy way to rewire the 12vdc outlets both front and rear. First, remove the glove box stops so that it will open all the way down. Next remove the front power port. It is separate from the aux input. I was able to pull it hard enough to get it to pop out. Behind the glove box there are a bunch of wires, connectors, and relays. There are three relays right in the front, clustered together. The left rear one is the relay for the rear outlet. Further documentation on which relay this is can be found on the installation instructions for the rear outlet at most parts web sites...Remove the relay and set it aside. If you remove the relay cluster from its mounting tab you can turn it over and see the wires. The ones you are interested in are green w/ white stripe and white w/ black stripe. They are the two wires furthest towards the front of the car. Also they have spade connectors that the relay plugged into. The two you are interested in are the two furthest forward. Now all you have to do is get two male spade connectors, red in color, and make a jumper to plug into the spade connectors where the relay went. To get the front outlet working, simply T tap a wire into your jumper, run it up to the outlet and splice it into the yellow + power wire on the outlet harness. Put everything back together and you are in business.
brendan 09-27-2003, 06:44 PM Um...it's not clear to me what the end result is supposed to be. Is this to allow the 12V sockets to be live even with the keys out of the ignition?

mo dman 09-27-2003, 06:57 PM exactly...sorry I didn't specify that. I have a flourescent light that hangs in the back also an inverter, both used for camping. I don't like to leave the ignition on just to get power.
nyokie 09-27-2003, 10:12 PM excellent work thanks ill do that to mine soon

Can you post some pics please?
Thanks!
jspectoys 11-26-2003, 02:41 AM When you jump the relay, you shouldn't have to run the wire back to the outlet. It seems that you may have the wrong wires jumped.
NVRSATISFYD 11-26-2003, 10:19 AM Do you have any pics?? I think you have to run the wire back to the outlet to make the front constant on, jumping the relay only fixes the rear outlet?? Havent done this to mine yet but I think that is what he was saying??
jspectoys 11-26-2003, 11:09 AM The relay behind the glove compartment should only control the rear outlet. The wire should already be in the car and terminates up behind the glove. The relay takes the accessory signal and switches the power on and off to the outlet. When the right wires are jumped, there should be no need to run the wire back.
NVRSATISFYD 11-27-2003, 09:21 AM Well, How do you go about getting the front powerport to stay constant on?
BlackdogStudios 11-27-2003, 01:08 PM ive asked same question on two forums. yet to see any idea how to get the front to be always on (and im not interested in a console plug) lol
dont know why honda would do this. unless it comes down to a liability issue.
best of luck
D.
mo dman 11-29-2003, 09:01 PM After you jump the relay for the rear outlet, take out the jumper and put a t in it. Run that wire up to the front outlet and connect to the positive terminal on that plug. That's it. Sorry it took me so long to respond. I'll try to pay more attention.
jspectoys 11-30-2003, 04:51 AM The only problem with jumping the relay and running a wire directly to the front socket, is you'll lose the fuse. It would become directly connected to the battery. This isn't a good idea as I've seen some poorly designed cell phone adaptors burn up dashes.
mo dman 11-30-2003, 03:11 PM There is a fuse for the rear outlet, pull it and see if either outlet still works. If it is still a big concern, install an inline fuse.
