Hello All!! Just got the SM E thursday.
I am sure this has been asked before but I cant find it.
Can you use any other keyless entry system other than the official HONDA part sold for about $100? If so, is it still as easy to install (just plugin' in the the green terminal)? Would it be cheaper?
thanks

To the best of my knowledge any keyless entry system will work....I have a Viper keyless/alarm in my E.
As far as install goes....check out the step by step instructions on elementj's website (click on the "Links" link at the top of the page....elementj's website is one of the links) He has step by step install instructions for the keyless and many other installs....very helpful.

Probably any keyless entry will work, but you will have to wire it yourself (or pay to have it done), the OEM Honda keyless entry is a simple, single plug in relay and one screw, that's it!
If you want a fancy alarm, then just get an combination aftermarket alarm and keyless entry unit installed by your local stereo/alarm shop.

Howdy,
Here are some pictures we took during our Honda Keyless entry install, bought from Handa. Overall it was very very easy. The hardest part was getting the dash cover off. Fortunately my partner was very adept at that.

I wouldn't recommend a non-Honda keyless entry, after finding how easily the official one installed yesterday.
It took about 10 minutes from opening the box to having two working and tested remotes. I did not disconnect the battery cable, which sped things up dramatically, and the result is a keyless system that's working perfectly.
Best of all, I didn't have to splice or cut any factory-provided wires; you may be hard-pressed to find an aftermarket system that is not as invasive (and potentially factory warranty voiding).
For those intending to do this, a flashlight will help find the place where the bracket mounts; it's a bit out of the way but not uncomfortable to reach.
