does anyone know if it would be alright to replace the front speakers and tweeters with infinity ref 6022si and ref 1021t? they both run at 2ohms. would that cause a problem for the stock amp?

Hmmm, good question, would also like to know the answer. I just swapped over a pair of Infinities in the back doors and also want the Infinity speaker/tweeter combo for the front.

Anyone, anyone?? Bueller??

What are you all whining about? :D

I'm running the 6022si's in both front and back currently. Granted I have an LX but there's many who have done this with an EX and had no problems. As far as the tweeters go I wouldn't think it would be an issue either, as tweeters are pretty darn low power and won't drive your amp hard at all.

I'm running Reference in all 4 doors and the the tweeters. I love it. I was pleasantly surprised with how much difference the tweets made.

Are you using a crossover? If so, it shouldn't be a problem.

thanks for all the replies.
An advisor at Crutchfield told me that he wouldn't recommend that setup as it would lower the resistance beyond what the stock amp can handle.
But I guess it might be alright if others are using it. Thanks again, and No I won't be using a crossover.

The Reference Tweets come with their own crossovers. They're small enough to fit behind the trim panel next to the tweeter.

you are going to want to use the crossover supplied. The factory tweeters have capacitors that limit the frequency delivered to them and the door speakers are just "full range" pieces of garbage. if you don't use the supplied crossover, you can pretty much kiss your tweeters goodbye. The reason why each speaker is 2 ohms is becuase the crossover runs the speakers in series which will raise the impedence to 4 ohms which your factory setup will support just fine.

So, with the supplied crossover, how difficult is it to install (NOT the speakers themselves, just never dealt with a crossover). :confused::confused:

Thanks!! ;-):smile::smile::D

Oh yea I forgot about the included inline crossover. I will definitely be using it. the crossover looks easy to install. Its just like connecting speaker wire

typically a crossover system included with seperates has one input and 2 outputs...one to the mid and one to the tweeter. The problem with that is, honda has the wires going to the speakers individually and they meet up somewhere before they hit the amp. To install them correctly, you would need to use the input from either the stock mid or the tweeter and then physically run a wire to the other speaker...or find where they intersect. Technically you could just crossover the tweeter and run the mid full range, but it is sort of designed to work with the crossover to sound the best. I threw in some coaxials I had sitting in my garage from my last car in the front doors and the drivers side door speaker had 4 wires running to it. I thought, great that will make installing separates easier thinking that was probably running to the tweeter but then the passenger side was not the same way...so now I'm not sure what that goes to. I plan to replace the front set with separates so I cant say EXACTLY how it goes in the element, but Ive installed plenty of seperates in other honda/acura vehicles and they all are pretty much the same

I can't testify personally on this specific case as i ditched the stock amp 2 years ago, but i can speak in general terms. The lower the resistance the more power you'll get out of the amp, but it will also run hotter. Heat is one of the main killers of amps. The factory amp wasn't designed to run at 2 ohms. It may work for awhile, but more than likely you're killing the amp faster than normal. If you give it a try and you fry your amp you could probably pick one up from someone on here for cheap/free.

I am replacing the OE tweeters. Is there an adaptor to attach the 1021's to the stock Honda connector?

My tweeters came with a pair of crossovers which were small enough to fit right near the stock tweeter location. Since the stock wireing needed to go through the crossover first an adapter wouldn't have worked.
