: 2007-Up HU install trim
Tampa SC 03-08-2008, 05:35 PM Hey there fellow box lovers! Okay, this has frustrated me since I joined this community over 6 months ago. The information on this subject was few and scattered. I bought an after market Apline HU with DVD and could not find a suitable trim kit. The one the install shop used was horrible; it jetted the HU out over 6 inches from the dash, looked really awful. I took off the kit and reused the brackets from the stock HU, but this method left a 3/4 -1.25 inch gap around the unit, this looked better but still not right. I tried several kits out there, but nothing seemed to fit the bill, the Metra 99-999 came the closest because it is customizable for different applications.
But I have found the one… Everyone out who own a 2007-up Element needs to purchase this kit if you plan on upgrading the Head Unit. It works for Single DIN (includes the pocket) or Double DIN. It fits PERFECTLY, it installs easily, and it eliminates the need to reuse the factory brackets altogether. Truly awesome work here. My dash surround and aftermarket stereo looks absolutely factory, I am amazed.
And now...Here it is...wait for it...one more minute now...:D

perfdata 03-08-2008, 10:15 PM Anyone know why this won't work with a 03-06, to the best of my knowledge there wasn't any changes up there.

The 07-08 radio isn't rectangular, it's like an upside-down trapeziod....bigger at top and smaller at the bottom.
Tampa SC 03-08-2008, 10:32 PM If you get the Honda Surround piece for the 07-08 I'll bet it would work. You could check Majestic Honda. :)

That's true, but since 03 to 06 Elements have normal DIN sized radios they can use any standard kit without having the triangular gaps. I have an 08 so i ordered an 03 trim kit for mine.

renae_b 03-08-2008, 11:41 PM NICE! I am ordering mine tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up, pics, and thorough attempt at making it look like it is OEM.
perfdata 03-09-2008, 08:38 AM Thanks BigAl, now that I look at the pictures more closely I see what you mean.
Edpsx 03-11-2008, 10:08 AM Wish I would have found this kit awhile back. Ordering it today! Does it come with the radio surround too? or is that your Alpine one? What all comes in the kit?
Found a picture on fleabay. I must say, that design is ingenious!

Edpsx 03-11-2008, 10:16 AM Bah, its sold out every where online. And only like 5 stores carry it total. Any local stores carry this stuff?
JPH102900 03-11-2008, 10:20 AM Is there any way to have a little door/screen that would cover up the headunit when you are not in the car? One of my co-workers has a Scion tC and she has a similar unit with satellite, DVD, Nav, etc. and it is great because the tC has a little door that covers the unit so that it is not obvious that you have an upgraded headunit. I would just be worried about leaving it in parking lots and such. Any ideas?
Edpsx 03-11-2008, 10:48 AM You could always just make something to cover it. Ive never had a problem with mine in parking lots. Besides, if people want it, they will get it. Nothing you can do about it.

Well, they can't want something they can't see. :D

What you see there is exactly what comes in the package, it's one piece of trim that has the side brackets attached. The little pocket thingie comes with it too in case you want to install a dingle DIN radio. The radio surround is the Honda factory piece that just covers the mounting screws.
renae_b 03-16-2008, 06:17 PM If you can't find the Scosche one, this one also is for the 2007up Element.

Think thief....If it's worth covering or hiding, it's probably worth stealing
renae_b 03-18-2008, 09:12 PM THE Ai Kit worked like a charm. Nice tight fit.
Here's my AVIC-D3 with iPod control, Navi, Bluetooth, Sirius, Steering Wheel Controls, hidden antennas, factory amp integration, and a bypass switch for the DVD. The pics are from the BlackBerry, I'll get better ones this week. The only complaint I have is that their signal/noise is high on the iPod connection, but only when you listen at low volumes. I'm an audiophile so I'll probably use different amps, cap off the tweets, and add the JL 6". This is the best $799 I've spent to date!

Tampa SC 03-18-2008, 10:33 PM Nice kit, what model number is it? Ai? That looks awesome even with the less than perfect pics.
How do you like the steering wheel control? Mine only does the volume, is that normal? Also I have the noise at low volume, what causes that?

The steering wheel control is cool. Volume with VOL, Track or preset Sirius Channel with CH, and Switching Audio Sources with MODE. I actually had to get help from the audio shop to do that part. I have a noise as well, but I'm guessing it has to do with the signal/noise produced by integrating the factory amp. Its as if there is not enough gain on the amp, because my volume is pretty high and it doesn't seem like I'm getting the output from the speakers that I should.
Edpsx 04-02-2008, 12:52 PM Just an FYI for everyone, this kit does not work with the Jensen VM9022. It fits and looks awesome, but does not allow enough clearance for the face to open up for the disc drive. Im not sure how much clearance I need, but im going to attempt to sand it down and see how things go.
Such a shame too as it looks VERY nice. I can imagine most Double DIN radios that open this way would all have the problem with this kit though.
Blank 04-03-2008, 11:24 AM Tried it with my Power Acoustik PTID-5800 and the trim is too small on the sides (1/4 inch too small on the sides, I believe) so that idea is scraped. Maybe I should take some sanding to it but I might mess up and...yeah.
renae_b 04-04-2008, 10:09 PM Can you clarify which one did not work, the Schosche or the American Internationa? There are 2.
