: Aux-In Volume adjustment?

Finally got my new speakers yesterday and put them in right away. Sounds much better. Still have one issue. I listen to mp3's via the Aux-In jack and the volume is much lower than the radio. Most of the time this is ok but occasionally I need an attitude adjustment  and want to crank it all the way up. The Aux-In is not nearly loud enough at full volume where the radio is. Is there any way to adjust this? My mp3 player has a line out which I usually use. I tried the headphone jack and turned it up to no avail. The headphone jack was softer than the aux jack.

Anyone know how to adjust the volume of the aux-in? Does the stock EX radio have a "secret" "setup mode" like my bimmer did?

Thanks
Mark

what mp3 player are you using - i have not found the volume level to be different with an ipod or my mini disc.

Hmm. One thing I'd do is check to see if the issue is a head-unit issue or an mp3 player issue. Try using a 1/8" to RCA cable on your home stereo to see if you see the problem there as well. If so, it's the mp3player.

Also, even though the headphone output might be really loud with headphones, the impedance matching is different for headphone vs. lineout, so using it as a line out might work better with some systems but not others (depends on how the input stage was engineered).

You could always try inserting a boosteroo in-line...

If you find something like that, please let us know!

I know that with my iPOD and PocketPC, I can turn up the volume on those devices. I usually have them turned up at about 80-90% volume and then adjust the volume on the head unit. I find that at this level, it pretty much matches the radio volume. I noticed that Honda did a nice touch by remembering different volume levels that have been set either on the radio or aux. That way, if you switch to aux or radio, you don't get blasted.

If you have a line-out, that probably has a preset volume level but if you use the headphone jack, then there is probably some additional adjustment on your mp3 player.

Also, check to make sure that your mini-plug is seating properly in your mp3 player. I noticed that if it's not seated well, your volume level can drop.

Brendan, re the Boostaroo: I used one often with my Walkman back in the day, but grew tired of the excessive battery consumption. (I have the same excessive battery consumption bias against noise-canceling headphones, which are also a great thing otherwise.) I never got around to hard-wiring a heftier power source for my Boostaroo, because I also grew tired of the poor connections in general on the device. (The battery cover used to fall off and the batteries would fall out on their own if you merely turned the thing upside down, so imagine taking the thing outside and running with it! Ha!) It was a great concept, but not the best quality product in physical fact. Too bad, too, because the things actually did what they claimed they would. For my own advice, I do just like Shen, and turn the volume way up on my iPod, and notice no discernable loss in signal quality. Also, like Shen advised, take particular notice of the physical connections – they’re the weak link that’s most easily overlooked, or taken for granted anyway.

Hey guys,
Just something of note. Use a better cable! I have a Creative Muvo, it has excellent sound! It is a little bit underpowered for an AUX source even at full volume! My solution.. a better cable! :D I'm using a Monster cable. It's a [4' stereo 1/8" mini male to male adapot cable SMIN-IL4]. As the package says! I got it at J and R. Works great fully sheilded. I think it makes a big difference. It cost like $10.
