We had such a fun time in March we are doing a sequel in May. May 3rd we plan to have a late afternoon/early evening supper at Kings Korean restaurant in Fridley. Just north of 694 on Central. We'll post a map/address further down. We will set a meetup time in the parking lot for pictures and sharing car stuff or do that after we eat. People can also go to the nearby Ax-man before we meet and pick up some really strange must have items.

My bad, only just read all the prior posts... Been a VERY hectic day. Just found out we're in a hiring freeze...Upside: More overtime. Downside: Less freetime.

Oh well, may not get to do the upgrade to my grill guard by then. But I'll be the richest man in the graveyard:-P

If you all will have me I'd love to join your fun loving crew of Eple. I don't have any WI friends to make an entire meet myself so I would love to join my friends to the west (and north). I've been hearing about the fun from Valerie.

C'mon, I've got WI friends, you should come over for one of our chainsawing days in Madison! :D But sure you're more than welcome to come along, did you see the pics from the last meet?

Pro, sucks man, we've been the same here for over a year. We can't even replace people who leave. Really sad way to run a business...

I did see the pics from the last meet. When are the chainsawing days? I've got WI friends. Just not WI E friends...

I think this one will definitely be a record for MN... :D

I've been doing what I can, got a 5 pack of EOC cards and tagged 3 Es on Saturday... One was from Washington DC... Think I might have done the East coast's job for them...
Given time, I may be able to tag the SOP across the street, I see it on camera every once in a while, I swing through their lot after work and it's gone... I think it's teasing me.
As for Stocazzo joining us... Welcome aboard. If you're up for the drive, we'd be happy to have you join us. I'm probably closest to the border (along 94) and I'd be happy to guide you out (or if'n your wiped out by the drive, you can ride with us). Either way happy to help.
We'll have to figure out what's in the area around the 3rd Ax-Man soon and start planning that for after the Nationals.

If Janet doesn't have to work the 3rd we are definitely coming down.
It would be nice if we could meet in Duluth some day this summer. We could meet up in Canal Park at Grandma's. A drive up the scenic North Shore to Palasade Head would be fun too. It actually takes us just as long to drive to Duluth from Babbitt as it takes to drive there from Fridley. I feel the cabin fever setting in again.

Ya know, we could turn a summer Duluth meet into a weekender campout... with mods... Considering how nice it'd be up north, I even offer up my skills and some tools as both assistant auto modder and decent outdoors chef:grin:

Specially as I found out we probably aren't gonna be able to go to the nationals.

Whadaya think, good beer (or something with a little less octane for those that want it) Good cook out food (dogs, burgers, chicken, steak...mmm steak) Some dutch oven biscuits, maybe a good stew. Work on vehicles, easy pace.
Beats climbing the walls around home...
I need to get away... Too many funky things happening around here lately.
I need a beer. G'night.

And steak.

And pie.

Bryon, I know how you feel. I've done that several times. Doesn't help that I work a job where I get paid to get complained at and then have to fix whatever they're complaining about

protaganis
03-18-2008, 09:39 AM
Well, if we plan this out we'll have more than enough lights to work on anything under the Es, food aplenty for the hungry, drinks aplenty for the modders (isn't that how you're really supposed to finish the job, crack open a cold one?) and others.
Gotta say, that's one thing that's impressed me the most about the E, you don't really need that many tools to do mods.

So, what weekend works best for as many as possible?
(For those who are interested but may be a little light on gear, we can probably pool our resources and get you covered for this trip.)
I volunteer to make morning coffee and breakfast (Low McMuffins, old family camping tradition) and a dinner (various meats [brats, chicken, steak...mmm steak]) and some cheesy rice and broccoli.

May 3rd Saturday we will be meeting at Kings Korean restaurant in Fridley Minnesota which is in the Twin Cities metro area. Many of us will gather first at the nearby Ax-man to rummage through the endless bins of must have stuff for completing our various science or art projects. I am simply refocusing this thread that has been hijacked by people staying up too late at night drinking or doing other things. Maps and time frames coming soon. I am going to visit Kings to let them know obsessed people will be invading them on that Saturday. We will also set up some time frame for parking-lot-mod-sharing madness.

I'd like to suggest we agree on some time to meet and/or eat. It would help the restarant in accomodating us, I'm sure. And the Ax-Man addictions can preceed or follow the otherwise sane festivities, since not all Element owners are hopelessly "into" collecting surplus detritus.

protaganis
03-19-2008, 11:23 AM
Which stickers? I eyeballed my EOC sticker and got it perfect, I'm pretty sure I can get it right on anything you want. I'll just make sure I bring the simple green and a rag to clean said area first.

Oh... Neither am I:twisted:
I've dealt with the fragile metallics (like the EOC metallic) Bumper stickers of all kinds, but the only non adhesive types I've ever used are the old modelling ones, soak in water then apply to a damp surface and give them a few hours to dry.
Did they come with any instructions? I can still bring the rags and simple green to prep the area.

Twilightzero

I feel like Cartman in that South Park episode where he wanted a Wii so bad he froze himself in ice to wait for the release date. protaganis
03-19-2008, 02:42 PM
If they're like the metallic EOC, you have to almost fold the cardboard away so they stay adhered to the plastic alignment sheet that covers them. It's only mildly tacky, so you can't just peel, or you leave half your letters stuck on the cardboard and you'll never get them to line up straight after that. Once you've done that, you line it up and roll it upward so there are no bubbles and smooth/ press it into place with your off-hand. Not to hard.

The non adhesives could be static cling... who knows

Don't worry Bryon, I'll have my fedora on again and about a week before the meet I'll PM my number to all those planning to attend... Maybe we should have Twi in a hot pink feather boa just to make sure...:-o

I would go skiing if it weren't for all the darn shoveling. We officialy have over 24" and I had to shovel off the West side of the roof. The drift at the peak was about four feet deep and this snow is wet and heavy. The plows quit for the night and the highway already has six to eight inches with drifts up to the hood. I might not be going to work tomorrow. I better wax my skis tonight eh?

I'd be interested in your opinion of them in summer months, Bryon. Not so much concerned about road noise, just ride and handling.
Twi, if you go with the green diamonds, I'll be wanting your opinion for summer and winter ride and handling too. I've got a bit before I need new tires, but it's never to early to start gathering trusted opinions.

(It's not that I don't trust the other threads I've read on tires, but they don't experience the... unusual weather we do. That and they have focussed a lot of attention on road noise.)

Those seem to be a lot like Nokian tires, except all season and not just for winter. I'm interested in seeing them up close now but I won't need tires for quite awhile.

I have been completely happy with the performance of the AT2s in every driving condition so far. They are softer in hard corners than the BFG Long Trails I have on the stock alloys, but only by a negligible amount. They are exceptional in rain, mud, snow, sand, gravel, anything you can run over.

I have the "c" load rated version of the Grabber AT2s on the Isuzu and they are rock hard and ride like a lumber wagon. They were the only ones I could get for 14" wheels oddly enough. I have been able to get around with the little 2wd truck in some really gnarly stuff so the harsh ride is worth it to me and the Isuzu is 13 years old so I'm not too worried about pampering it. I would advise against putting the heavy "c" load rated tires on the Element though.

Okay, all this tire talk has gotten me curious. So I checked mine (I knew I had decent tread depth, so I never bothered with looking at brand) I'm running Tiger Paws, hunh. Well, they've served me well this winter, no slipping or sliding, ride well (once I got the pressure adjusted) grab the road pretty well and have minimal road noise (compared to my last car).

So, I looked through a few tire posts, what is the general opinion of Tiger Paws from Uniroyal?

I was going to stop at Kings this week to talk with them about our mini meet but I had a sheet rock guy everyday at my house so I didn't have time to stop. I will next week.
On another note. Someone revived the Nomadic Project thread and I went to their site and see they have their artwork traveling. They have a big show at a Minneapolis gallery in December. I say we plan a December "happening" at the Gallery! It runs for the whole month so we either hit an opening party (if they have one) or do it right after Christmas when time isn't as crunched.
Here are links. (They have good taste in Element colors!)

Twin Cities meet up May 3rd at Kings. OK gang...Kings can take us at 5PM. They sort of want a number of people. So lets respond and I'll start a tally. Axman is open next door till 6PM so people can go there first then we could hang in the parking lot and check out everyone's Elements from from 4 to 5PM then eat. Axman and Kings may even be in the same parking lot. Their addresses are close.

Google maps says 5 hours 31 minutes but that is way off. It's never taken more than 4 - 4.5 hours. That being said... what is a good time to get there/how long should we peruse the selection at axman?

protaganis
04-27-2008, 10:42 AM
Last time we got together, it took 2 hours or so to peruse the store (it's not big, but they pack a load of stuff into it) and since they are closing at 6, I'd say plan on being there at 4. You'll be passing within a couple of hundred yards of my place on the way there, I'm planning on leaving at 3:30. Care to caravan? I've got both locations programmed into my GPS and would enjoy the company:D

Oh yeah, If you've never been to an AxMan's before, bring spending money. They have many project inspiring gizmos there. (I still need to go back and get those LEDs, I know I can find something to make with them...)

Friends, I am a man defeated. My E (The Beast), my new AVIC-D3 and the sun conspired against me to break me at my weakest moment while trying to install my new HU. I was making headway, but just couldn't get there.

So, you ask, why is Eddie hijacking this thread?

Simple! I'm wondering if anyone out there is willing to come to the meet (or I'll come to you!) a little earlier to help me do this install. I've read every thread, connected every harness, but I need the assistance of someone who's better at the installing car stereos than I am.

What's in it for you, you're probably asking. Well, I'm pleased to offer U-Name-It Prices. Maybe you want me to cover dinner at Kings during the meet? Maybe you'd just like the cash? Broken computer? I'm your man! You name the terms, I'll make it happen.

Again, sorry for hijacking this thread - I'm just in dire need of some help from my EOC pals. Don't make me call on the services of the evil Best Buy!

Please? :D

Valerie, Yes my wife will be coming with me, she's looking forward to seeing ya again (I've no idea what's in that mall besides the Axeman and King's but I'm sure you two can find something to keep entertained whilst we men grunt and guffaw over the new project materials).

We'll be taking off as soon a Stocazzo gets here.

Eddie, my best suggestion is to bring it in current condition, with all of us there (and decently mild but not too cold a weather) we should be able to get it installed in no time. (Personally I'm all thumbs when it gets more complex than positive-negative, but I offer astounding morale support:-D)

Lastly: Yes, the Duluth trip is still in the works (Mama Nature, please smile upon us;-)) http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44194&page=5

There used to be a golf store, but it's probably gone. I tend to be pretty focused junk when I'm in the vicinity so I don't notice much other than Ax-Man, there is also an outlet-y store across the street. As junky in Ax-Man but less interesting.
