: Anyone see a safety issue with raising the passenger seat?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not asking for much. 3/8" at the rear would do it I think. I went through all the girations of mounting an amp under the passenger seat and when it was in I went to slide the seat back and Crash! . . . Denied. I didn't take into account the levers that release the seat to slide in its rails. They just hit the upper corners of the amp.

So, does anyone see any safety issue with raising the seat that I'm overlooking? I want to make my life easier on the install, but not at the expense of my passenger.

thanks,
Mike

Mike, as long as you have the same amount of contact points as the original and the same quality bolts, I see no issues. However, lawyers are a ............well, you get the picture.

If you raise the seat by x amount in the rear, it may be uncomfortable to sit in. Also, would it change the geometry of the airbag deployment? I don't know, but it seems a little risky for an amplifier.

I wondered about affecting seat comfort, too. But, Over the length of the rails, 3/8" in the rear amounts to less than 1.5 deg change. It shouldn't be very difficult to do, so if I try it and the seat doesn't feel right, I could always go back.

I see that you have an 03 E . Did that have airbags in the seat ?? I don't think so. So there will be no issues with that. However, whatever you do to the rear mounting points, you should do to the front also.

Why is it not possible to reposition the Amp a few inches? Is there an option of building a bracket that will reposition the Amp, without altering seat hight?

How about turning the Amp 90 Degrees from it's current orientation ?

Yes, in 2003 there was an option to get the front side airbags... hence the EX-S that some of us have. :)

No side airbags, so no problem there. I only intend to raise the rear because the mounting points there are parallel to the road. The front mounts are perpendicular to the road.

My wife cannot bend her right knee so raising the back of the passenger seat (or lowering the front) has become a must-do mod for most of our vehicles. I've made 1/2" adjustments that were enough to provide her comfort without adversely impacting everyone else's. I just added a 1/2" steel sleeve between the seat rail and floorpan and made sure the bolts were long enough.

Fortunately, we didn't have to do this mod on our E or our 2006 Civic. Removing the plastic cover under the glove box gave us the room she needed.

Hope this helps.

wait. what?

i mounted my amps under my rear seat (one on left, one on right) and they got waaay plenty room to breathe. you must have some really chubby amps or sumthin.

If I read his post correctly, Marmaduke mounted his under the front passenger sear not the rear seats.
