: shake when accelerate

Hi everybody,

After doing alot of reading on the posts re; tires, I bought a set of Yokohama Geolanders HT-S. I've had them for 3 weeks now. Long story short, I had to take them back and be re-balanced 'cus at 65 mph, the front passenger side started to shake.
I took it back in, re-balanced, runs better but NOT totally smooth yet, I'm gonna take it back again for another balance.
Here's a question for all of you.
I recently had my E in for some warranty work and they told me I had a front strut ( passenger side !) that was starting to leak and they want to replace it. O.K. fine, the parts on order and not put on yet. So....is it possible that the front strut is causing the vibration at 65mph, the old set of tires DIDN'T cause the front shake at 65mph. OR.....do I just need the balance tweaked again????
Thanks for any replies.

Pffft... ;-)Of course the front strut being deteroriated will cause the front to shimmy!

Considering the age of your car you'd probably be better off replacing both the front struts rather than just one side. Do the rebalance thing "After" the struts are replaced.

Yup. (Assuming the strut is bad) the strut is the likely "real" cause of the vibration/shudder.

And replacing both fronts is prolly the best way to go.

Thanks for the replies so far everybody.

Yeah, I'm not a gearhead, but even I know you replace struts both at the same time. Trouble is, Honda said they're NOT gonna replace a strut that's not gone bad, and the drivers side is O.K. This was warranty work, so no charge, the other strut , they wanted $350 for.

O.K., so, how is it that my old tires didn't cause the same shake ? Is it just coincidence the strut went out at the same time I put new tires on ?

I just picked up my E with the new strut. I'll be takin' it on the highway tomorrow morning, I'll let you know what happens at 65mph !

See ya.

From my experience, when your wheels shake at high speeds, it usually means you need an allignment. Have you gotten one lately?

Hi everybody,

No, I haven't had an allignment lately. I guess that's worth looking into also.
I'm not noticing the vibration as much anymore, although I still think I'll have the balance checked out again.
See ya.
