: Removing the TPMS master controller?
Free_man_E 04-06-2008, 01:02 AM Does anybody know how to remove the TPMS master controller
from the dash? Is it even possible without tearing the hole dash
apart?
The reason I’m asking is that I’m hoping to buy a second TPMS
controller. This is so can have another full set of rims and still
have the TPMS system operable. I’d just have to have the dealer
program the new TPMS master controller to the new rims and TPMS
sensors. Then I can swap the TPMS units as I change rims.

Built B16A 04-07-2008, 09:36 PM sounds interesting. what do one of these control modules go for?
i have a 2007 service manual at home, i will have to locate the page and either scan or photo the page, and post it.. but chances are, its burried up under the dash and fairly difficult to get to.. but i'll be sure to research it some more.
price?
Gambling element 04-07-2008, 10:03 PM Sorry about the scan quality it's hard to get that giant book to lay flat. It looks like it's to the left and behind the center dash vents. There are only 6 wires going to it. Three are power and ground and 3 are for data. maybe just extend the cable to a more convenient location
Free_man_E 04-08-2008, 12:14 AM The list cost for the TPMS receiver is $103.85, but I think I can get it for around $77.
Of course that doesn’t include the rims and TPMS transmiters.
Aluminum rims list $201.35 or $151.01 on line. Also the end caps are $7.57
Cost $5.68 on line. And the TPMS sensors/transmitters are $45.98 list and
$34.49 on line.

Free_man_E 04-08-2008, 12:35 AM Another thought, if I can shoehorn a second TPMS receiver into the
dash near the original one. I can buy another (32116-SCV-A01 SUB-WIRE)
wire harness and then all I'd have to do is swap a single plug.
Built B16A 04-08-2008, 02:44 AM that doesn't look difficult at all.. ive had my OEM stereo out once, i tapped into the signal wire for an amp i USED to have in my E.. ive done away with the amp and box, but still have the wiring there. so anyways, ive seen behind my stereo.. but didn't really pay attention to what was behind it. but its not hard to remove, and see behind. but im not sure if your going to have enough room for a 2nd TPMS module. it would prolly be a straight forward R&R, along with wheels and sensors.
also, keep an eye on ebay. i got my 2nd set of Element/Odessey transmitors for under 50 a set. it was a close call, and i bid at the last second, but still walked away pretty cheap. i think it was like $43 shipped.
Free_man_E 04-08-2008, 03:38 AM Yea I pulled my factory stereo out while back, it wasn't hard to remove.
Though it was nerve racking pulling the trim around the radio off the
first time.
Anyway when I get my first set of all terrain tires and depending on
how noisy they are on the highway, will be the time I’ll be trying this
project. I’m just doing the research to see if it’s even possible to do
this TPMS receiver swap. And I figure (If this will work?) it will be
handy for people who want a separate set of snow stud tires but still
want the TPMS system to work. Of course this would all be a mute subject
if Honda would have designed the TPMS system so that it would remember
more than one set of tires. But they want you to go the dealer to
reprogram the TPMS system every time. Money money and mo money~.:-x
Brawsie 04-08-2008, 07:57 AM Great idea f-man. Hope it works as expected.
Free_man_E 04-11-2008, 07:34 PM Well I removed the radio the other day. It looks like its verry cramped
around the TPMS receiver. Does anybody know where the RF antenna
is located ror the TPMS receiver? Is it inside it? There looks like theres
enough room for the TPMS receiver behind the gear Shifter, but if
the RF antenna is located inside the TPMS receiver unit, this
would be a bad location for it.

I just looked it up in the manual and the RF antenna is located inside the TPMS control unit.
beanz8spun 04-12-2008, 11:53 PM who told you that it can only sense four sensors?, i mean if you just order four more sensors it shouldnt matter, you cant fit 8 wheels on your car at once

The service manual states the TPMS system will only recognize 4 sensors at a time and has been confirmed many times.
EXwSCnose 04-13-2008, 08:48 AM Sorry about the scan quality it's hard to get that giant book to lay flat. ............
....quick pointer.....
for stuff like that, where OCR isn't an issue, it is much easier to take a quick shot with the digital camera, then it is trying to wrestle the book onto a scanner and hope it holds still for long enough...
Free_man_E 04-15-2008, 09:57 AM I just looked it up in the manual and the RF antenna is located inside the TPMS control unit.
Thanks lizzurd. I guess I'll plan to do this mod as a complete unit swap out.
RF devices can be finicky and I wouldn't want to interfere with the OEM TPMS
receiver. Even mounting another unit near or on top of where the original
OEM receiver can change either of the units receiving pattern.
Built B16A 05-24-2008, 07:59 AM any updates?
Free_man_E 05-26-2008, 02:30 AM Non as of yet. I still want to put some miles on my OEM tires
before I buy a set of all terrains. I'm just about to turn 9K
on the OEM tires.
