I'd like to hear some opinions on the 225/70/16 vs. 235/70/16 vs. 225/75/16 decision.

I want good hwy performance and no rubbing. Beyond that, what's the tallest reasonable tire an E can handle?

Well whatever you decide on, you may want to have the spedo recalibrated to get some accurate odometer readings.

I like 225/70.

The size actually made my spedometer closer to correct (as per my GPS). They fill the wheel well better, but you don't notice the the slightly taller/heavier tire in acceleration and braking. Any taller and I think I'd notice a reduction in performance.

Read about my 225/70/16 Cooper ATRs (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29066).

I went with the Michelin Energy LX 4. It's wider, taller but almost the same height and weight wise, just 26. somethin' or another pounds. The Goodyear Wrangler scales right 'bout that much. This info from the tire rack (if my crs memory is functionin' right today). Gas mileage hasn't changed either. No issues on performance and it holds the turns a lot better.

I have 235/70R16 size tires on mine. They ride good and handle well .They also fill up the wheel wells nicely. It almost gives the E a slight lifted look.

Do you have any rubbing problems at all? which brand of tire do you have?

thanks for any help, i'd love the 235's!! any gas mileage differences?

When I had stock wheels , I had the Bridgestone Turanza EL 42...All Season tires, and it was a truly excellent handling tire. The size was 235 X 65 X 16 and they were about $100 a piece.

225/70 made my speedo exact compared to my GPS also. It is a nice upsize too if you want to go a little bigger.

This site may help you decide.

I think you couldn't go wrong with the P225/70/16 or P235/65/16. I wouldn't go any taller than 28.5 or your speedo/odometer and performance maybe more off than you would like.

235-65-16....(could be wrong but in the sizes mentioned, I'm thinkin' the Energy LX4 is available only  in 235-65-70)

Cool. When I was shopping for tires I very much liked the 235/65 size. Just slightly taller than stock, about the same or only a hair shorter than the 225/70 (depending of brand & model) but noticeably much wider than stock.

I could only find them in "touring" type tires and I wanted/needed a All-Terrain-ish type tire.

I have 235/70-16 Michelin on my stock steel wheels, they fill the wheel. You can get all terrain in 235/70-16, I look at tirerack.com
