stocazzo 04-23-2008, 10:06 PM Looks good! I remember just reading that Windex works wonders. I'm going to test it out sometime this week. Mine is pretty gross, too.
Dom.five 04-24-2008, 07:10 AM That stuff works well if you have a heavy layer of caked on oil. From the Photo's, it Does not look like you did.
It's strong enough to remove the protective clear coat on the parts. That will expose them to the normal pitting that happens to unprotected parts.

Spotman 04-24-2008, 09:03 AM While Dom is compiling his...
I did this yesterday, wet warm engine, used "Purple Stuff" on a warm engine, let sit for two minutes, rinse with water, blow dry off with yard blower. Spray any rubber/plastic shine (Armor all, Son of Gun, etc.) on entire engine parts, blow with yard blower, wipe down with rag. Presto...
Ask Gary (DC BOX) he uses my method, only takes about 15 minutes, no mess!
Plus, after washing "E", I used the "ICE" on entire surfaces, boy does it look good.

Dom.five 04-24-2008, 10:05 AM I also use "Purple Stuff" ... Got it at walmart.
Some times I just spray it off at the do it yourself car wash, With the pressure setting. I keep it running wile I'm doing it.

Rocket Dog 04-24-2008, 10:06 AM Is "Purple Stuff" code for a generic product or is that actually the trade name?

Actual trade name... some are called Purple Stuff, Purple Cleaner, etc. Can be bought anywhere in quarts or gallon size, about $4.00 in Wally World.
NV_05_AWD 04-24-2008, 02:11 PM The Green Stuff works good too ! ( Simple Green )
kitkat123474 04-24-2008, 02:57 PM wow.. so, do i need some rust proofing?
JayVizo 04-24-2008, 04:32 PM I use the same method as the 1st guy w/engine degreaser since I purchased the car...2003... and I bet my bay still looks better then most here... Will post picks this weekend when I do it again...which its due...LOL!
lizzurd 04-24-2008, 04:35 PM In case it hasn't been mentioned already ...i would suggest to cover up the alternator with a plastic bag. I have seen more than a few alts go south after an engine shampoo because they weren't covered up and got a good bath.
I did mine last weekend with Simple Green.
When I turned on the leaf blower, I blew my i-VTEC plate right off!
Cyclist_306 04-24-2008, 04:53 PM I have used Spotman's method for a couple of years and it works VERY well. I used simple green and Son of a gun. It makes the engine compartment look like it is fresh off the showroom floor.
I highly recommend it.
jets022 04-25-2008, 02:38 AM Could someone name all the components that need to be covered to prevent them from getting wet?
Alternator, battery, fuses box, spark plug cover?

JoJO, I did that to my wifes '03 last year and mine was almost coming off too. What I did was glue it back on with some Gorilla glue (use sparingly), never came back off.

I did that--Elmers Nano Glue--Not even a hurricane is blowing that puppy away now!:D
fly104857 04-25-2008, 01:50 PM I used the same GUNK on my recently traded in 01 Tacoma since it was new. I'd spray it on and let sit a few mins then GENTLY rinse off. I'd always run engine as soon as done. I NEVER had any problems. MY engine still looked VERY clean for an 01. I'd usually only do this 2-3x a year... One of the mechanics at the dealership said it was fine doing it that way and there was no need to cover anything- as long as you rinsed it genlty and used as little water as poss.I think I'm going to try something different on the new E. I just haven't decided what yet.I'm thinking the Simple Green.

Wow! I thought my engine looked bad. Yours looked like a Katrina refugee, now it looks new. Great before & after shots ... I'm looking for some GUNK today.
