: Mounting a GPS

With prices of 3.5" auto GPS units approaching the $100 range, I may give in and get one. I have a hiking GPS, but even with a RAM mount near the radio, its visibility leaves a lot to be desired.

How do you like to mount your GPS? With suction cup to the windshield? With the stickon disk? With a vent clip? Where? center, by left pillar?

I have my Nuvi 250 mounted at the top of the a-pillar, hardwired. I had a Nuvi 350 mounted with the permanent disk on the center of the dash above the radio, someone decided they wanted it more and stole it out of the car :x
I had the windshield visor tinted, now my GPS is invisible from the outside as is the EZ pass. I love the location, it's very easy to see and reach the gps in this spot. I am using the suction cup mount and have not had a failure since I added the tint strip, which is really a pleasant surprise, it wouldn't stay put on the glass.

I think there are several threads about this very topic
Mine is a Garmin Nüvi 350

Anyway, I much prefer this location, it's very handy yet it doesn't take up any windshield 'real estate' not to mention it's not very visible from the outside at all....

Power outlet is installed behind the dash, fed through the top of the sub cover. Neat looking install.

I shamelessly stole IbElement's idea of using a Panavise mount with mounting ball for my Nuvi 760. You can get more details and see pictures of how it looks in his thread here (pics are at post # 4) (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40394).

I bought my Panavise mount from an eBay retailer called Unlimited Cellular. You can see their current offering for the Panavise mount here (http://search.stores.ebay.com/Unlimited-Cellular_751171003_W0QQfcdZ2QQfciZ0QQfclZ4QQfromZR 10QQfsnZUnlimitedQ20CellularQQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQfsub Z1QQftsZ2QQlnsZ1QQsaselZ26284471QQsofpZ0) and the mounting ball (also by Panavise) here (http://search.stores.ebay.com/Unlimited-Cellular_767-GR2_W0QQfcdZ2QQfciZ0QQfclZ4QQfromZR10QQfsnZUnlimit edQ20CellularQQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQfsubZ1QQftsZ2QQlnsZ 1QQsaselZ26284471QQsatitleZ767Q2dGR2QQsofpZ0).
