took me a while to post this. got this put on a few months ago and its FUN!! just didnt feel like laying on the ground to take this pix, but finals are here, and i got time to post this

i didnt get one put on my car for performance or anything like that. i hate how exhausts are always loud and all, but sometimes, i just want it LOUD!! especially when those scion xB's fly by with their exhausts thinking they're all cool and whatever. NOW, when they rev up on the road, with a flick of a switch, my car goes VROOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!! and they go WTF?! when i close it a minute later.

its all fun and games. THE JOKES ON THEM!!!!

Noise aside, you won't leave that valve open very long, especially when sitting still, right? Exhaust gas under the passenger compartment can result in carbon monoxide poisoning.

wouldn't that cause a sensor problem since it's before the o2's

COOL! I've been thinking about doing this when I finally get around to getting an exhaust on the E... glad to see someone else beat me to the punch.

Think maybe you could get a sound clip and post it up? I'd love to hear the difference.

Kool !!

In my younger day, we Would go to the junk yard, and get a fuel filler pipe and gas cap. We would simply weld that into the exhaust pipe. One on each side Before the muffler. Because they were curved we would point them out Just under the doors. That way the driver and passenger were able to remove the caps without getting out! When we went racing we would just remove the gas caps from each side! They were impressive, shooting flame out the sides of the car's !! We called them dumps !! They added at least 100 But HP. !! LOL

Ahhh the Good old days ! Gone forever !
'
Can't do that now! The gas caps are plastic. In this day and age everything is power operated. Mirrors, seats, radio ( no manual push buttons ) and now the Exhaust dumps.

Interesting.

Just don't do this in ANY state that has signed on for California Emissions, such as PA,MD,NY,CT,RI,MA,VT,ME,CT,NH, etc as any modification of the exhaust before the catalytic converter and its final pipe will cause the vehicle to fail state inspection.

Saw something similar to this on the TV show Unique Whips. They took one of Jeff Gordons race cars and made it street worthy yet, it was still a race car with the race motor and all. They cut the top made it a convertable, serious stereo and all that but they ended up putting an electric exhaust on it as well. I had never heard of such but this company came in and basically ran two exhaust. One for the street and the with the flip of the switch the one valve opened and the other closed and sent the exhaust into one side or the other, one race the other street. It was a trick modification for sure.

Well...this is how I've always done it. Record the video/sound clip and transfer it to your computer, then upload it to www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com) (its free) then it can be posted and shared anywhere...

...but if you want to put it on YouTube that's fine as well...just make sure you give us the link to wherever it ends up.

Example: My clip from Photobucket

Just as a warning a friend has this set up on a 2000 Camaro, sounded loud! But they are often known to get stuck in the open position. So just be prepared they do break often.

new york state insp. law on exhaust states....
1 vehicle must have a cat.
2 vehicle must have a complete exhaust that exits the vehicle beyond cab (pick up) or rear of vehicle.
3 Exhaust must not have leaks.
and also any kind of cut out located anywhere on an exhaust system is illegal for on road use.
hehe
sorry man
I used to run a manual one, it was right in front of a turbo muff, and in the winter i would cap it to let it run without buggin out my dad. I had a 45 with custom tips i made for it.

i hear these things break easily too, so i try to avoid opening it up so much. just once in a while, as an xB flies by, or when i feel like making some noise, and closing it off so people can be like "WTF?!" it'd be a hassle to have it stuck open, cause its quite loud. wouldnt want to get in trouble with mr police man

Used to run one of these on my boosted Si. Got stuck one too many times so I said to hell with it and got rid of it.

it finally got stuck open!!!! a scion xb flew by and revved, so i caught up and opened the valve. he was pretty suprised, but i couldnt close it

turns out, it was only a fuse, and a loose wire. anybody messed with the new xb's yet? i hear theyre fast =/ not trying to race it or anything, but i just know for sure, an Element is wayyy faster than the older xb's

It would be interesting if the E's had the old VTEC system and you tied that valve to the oil solenoid that engaged VTEC at 6K RPM. WHEEEEE!
