My "antique" cell phone finally fell apart. When I went to Verizon to shop, the salesperson recommended the Blackberry Curve. I'm wondering if anybody has experience with this phone. I bought one just today and am finding the phone a bit funny sounding--the voices sound "tinny". My friend who I was speaking to, said she rates the sound quality on her end an "F" and felt like she was talking to me at the end of a long tunnel and feeling like she had to shout for me to hear her. Perhaps I have a volume control or setting off? Or is the sound quality just poor? Might say that I was calling her from a busy downtown street at the time. Later, when at home in my backyard, I called my brother using the earbuds. What I heard seemed better, and my brother felt what he heard was just fine.

Other than that, the features seem real nice and easy to use. I kinda like that aspect.

I'm wondering if BB's are known for poor acoustics or perhaps it is just this model. Out the door it cost me $45, so the price seemed right....but if the sound is lousy, perhaps a more expensive BB is better???

I am getting the curve and both my parents have it and love it. I have a lot of experience with them as I use it often and I have experienced nothing but good things. Could be a one time thing that the sound quality was bad, or the phone is a lemon, or various other reasons.

I have only heard and experienced good things regarding it.

I've had my Curve for almost 8 months now. I love the phone, no issues at all with sound quality on either end. You sound as if you were in a dead zone and were losing signal.

Never heard a bad thing about the Curve. This is my 5th BlackBerry and they keep getting better and better.

Keep testing it out, entirely possible yours could have an issue. You have 30 days to return it if there is a problem and I would recommend returning it then buying another one instead of getting it repaired and getting a refurbished phone. But that holds true of any cellphone.

Yes, other than the sound, I really like the way the phone works. I am not a gadget person. I have resisted Blackberries, Palms, etc.--even though the nature of my work begs for them. I was checking out the features and set up last night. It was so easy and has so many conveniences--I expect I will really use it to the max.

Glad to hear that sound should not be an issue. I will keep it and test it over the next couple of weeks. If it doesn't improve (I don't always want to use ear buds), I will return it as you described and probably buy another.

One thing--Verizon only had it in silver. Sure wish it had some cool color.

I have the Red Curve from ATT. I prefer to use my Bluetooth headset to using the Curve itself, just more comfortable for me.

They're right, sounds like either you got a buggy one, or you were going into a dead zone. Only piece of advice is to make sure you shut it down once a day. In the options menu, you'll find the option for auto shut down and restart. Works like a charm.

Why do you shut it down every day? I leave mine running 24/7 unless I am going on a plane, in a movie theatre or something where I can't have a phone on. Yes I use vibrate but still don't want to be disturbed.

T-Mobile has had issues in the past, similarly related to DHCP guest renewals. If I don't shut down for a minute or so a day, I cease getting my SMS Text messages. Even the tech I talked to said it was on the T-Mobile side of things.
He also mentioned that it would help with any provider. It just renews the connection between your phone and the network.

I just set the phone to shut down at 05:45 then restart at 05:50. This takes care of everything.

Thus far, my only complaint is that they use a 2.5mm jack instead of a 3.5mm jack... After over one year, that's a comparatively small complaint:D

Curve 8320, wouldn't trade it for any other phone.
It sounds like you had a bad connection, I don't have any problems and I have T-Mobile as well.

My hubby works for AT&T, has for years. He has the same phone, and has no problems with the sound or the phone. He said it's probably the service more than anything, since the phones are probably made almost identical.

You could try exchanging it for another Curve. It could be a dud.
