I can not seem to remember to turn my lights off. I have drained my battery 4 times now. I would love a ding, ding sound if I try to exit the car with my headlights still on.

Gee, my E has that. It scolds me like crazy if I leave my lights on. Yours must be broken?

Yeah, me too...just about any car nowadays should have that sound signal alarm thingee when you leave your lights on, take the keys out, and leave the car.

I'm wondering whether you did that DIY thing to turn off the door alarm so you can listen to the stereo system with the doors open. Maybe that's the reason you don't hear the "ding-ding" sound when you leave your headlights on by accident.

That's just a guess, though.

I'd also have the specific gravity on your battery checked out before winter. Draining car batteries completely is NOT good for their health. It usually only takes once to ruin it forever. Don't know about new battteries, but it's definitely the case for older batteries that could have otherwise given a few more years' worth of service. And though I sometimes have a bad rep for smart remarks, I'm not pulling your leg in the first sentence. It's checked with one of those "turkey baster" things with the little floating balls inside. I think it's called a hygrometer. It measures the ability of your battery to take and hold a charge. Good luck!

And now back to normal -- what kind of an Element owner are you, anyway? Don't you stand back and admire your ride every time you park it and leave it? If you did, you'd see that you left your lights on!
