ok, so i just hooked up my new JL amp and it has a signal sensing turn on (which is kinda bogus) and a regular 12v remote lead. i want to use that but when i hook it up to the remote lead for the amp, it only works to a certain volume. the power of the amp stays on but when i go over about half, nothing comes out. is there a limiter inline with the sub signal (to shut it off to prevent damage) at a certain level?? im so confused.... and i dont want to sound like a jerk but im a sound guy and i should know this.
if i use the signal sensing turn on, it has to be loud enough for the amp to hear it and then i dont get my sub at low volumes. either way i can have it play really quiet or really loud. any ideas???

Need more info about your setup...
Are you using a factory head unit?
If NOT factory, what's the output voltage of your aftermarket head unit pre outs or are you using line level connections?
Signal sensing turn on is a good thing typically, why not use it?
Have you tried playing with the gain adjustments?
What's your sub setup like - do you have 2 subs or one and is it dual voice coil or single?

ok, im using the factory head unit. i tapped off of the sub leads to the factory amp at line level. its going to a 4 ohm 15 inch sub single voice coil. ive done a whole lot of gain tweaking (including input sensitivity for the signal sensing turn on). with that feature i cant get the right mix of sensitivity and gain. when i turn up the sensitivity, it gains the output. but all i really want it to do is turn on at a lower volume and be proportional to the volume of the full range. with the input sensitivity cranked, the sub is crazy loud at low volumes. without the sensitivity cranked it (the sub) doesnt come on.
i tweaked a little more tonite and got it to go about half way up with the sub on. when i get past half the sub stops (and the factory sub keeps going). im not sending the Amp in to protect and im not getting any indication of a voltage drop (the amp isnt losing power just audio). sorry if this is scatterbrained. anyway im going to test some more tomorrow. im getting a new head unit in a couple weeks so hopefully ill be all set.
