Is anybody running 3 piece wheels on a "E", I just purchased my wife a 2008 SC and I need to make it look sick...

I made her give up her 2007 Acura RL for it...

A few folks on here have custom-made wheels, so i'm sure they'll surface and tell you their offsets. If it were me, i'd make them as wide and as low offset as possible, even to have a few mm of poke. :)

I have custom three-piece 19 X 8 JDM wheels with a 49mm off-set. Going for the lowest off-set will totally have your wheels sticking outside your fender wells and cause your bearings to prematurely wear out, let alone the rubbing you're going to experience. The purpose of buying custom three piece wheels is that you can get the HIGHER mm's and stay in the neighborhood of your original stock settings.

The SC wheel is a 18 X 7.5 with a 45mm off-set, so you can go all the way up to a 52mm off-set on even 20 X 8.5 wheel, with a 245 X 40 X 20" tire and still have an on the ground footprint of around 46mm's with absolutely no rubbing. So basically, unless you're rolling your back fenders, or cutting them out from the inside, go with the the higher mm's, NOT THE LOWER ONES. You are pretty safe with the the lowest at 43mm's all the way up to 52mm's.
Hope this helps you, and good luck!

I agree with Chief....if you're going to drop the $$ on custom rims you might as well get the perfect offset to go with it. Somewhere between 48-52 would be ideal.

What size wheel are you wanting to get? I'm assuming 20's but you could also stick with 18's or 19's like chief has. I would love to have custom 3 piece wheels but they start at around 4k and that's just too rich for me at the moment.

Also the nice thing is if you plan to lower the E too, some custom wheels come in 20x8, 20x7.5, and even 20x7 which helps the wheel stay tucked in the fender and eliminate rubbing.....but the offset is the true key to that.

G-Note,Darth Raider is well versed on the art of wheels, tires and proper fit and set up. If you haven't seen his ride, its a must see. Darth Raider is beautiful! One of the nicest Elements around and the tires and wheels are out of this world! Chief found my wheels for me and pointed me in the right direction. I have a 1pc wheel with a 48mm offset which is a hard find. Chief found them and got me in the mix on them. He also educated me in the art of offsets, proper fit and wheel sizes instead of me doing a trial and error type thing, spending good money on a bad setup. When Chief speaks on wheels, you better listen.

Peace!

You guys I appreciate the vast amount of explanations of how to calculate offset and what the technical definition is, but I was wondering if someone already had a 3-piece wheel on there "e" and what offset it was with a picture so I can decide which offset I am going to choose...

The center's are being painted as we speak, color matched to Galaxie Gray...

Just waiting to give word on the barrel's...

Why not just match stock width and offset? Or, put stock on, decide how much further out you want it (say, 10mm), and subtract that off?

Only person I know running a 3 piece wheel is Darth Raider (Chief). There's a few running DPE's but I'm not sure if they're 3 piece or not.

Again give us the size of wheel you're getting and the size tires and that'll help in the advice dept.

I am wanting to go at least 20x8.5 at the least, but would prefer 20x9...

I am going to lower it 1.5" and try to run a 245/40R20...

So I am thinking a 42mm offset...

What do you guys think?

I am spending $784 a wheel so...

With those wheel sizes I would run a 52MM off-set, then with the 245 X 40 X 20 tire, you should have an on the ground footprint of around 45mm or 46mm and you would be absolutely PERFECT without any rubbing. Starting with a 42MM off-set, a 20 X 8.5 rim, and 245 X 40 tires is going to put you on the groung at around 39mm, and I can promise you, "YOU WILL BE RUBBING!"

Beautiful, simply beautiful! That catalog you sent me on the SSR's Chief, I look through it occasionally and I can only salivate!

Oh yea, I know that Allante has the tendency to only turn left having been an Official Pace Car for the Indy500. :D

50mm with a 20x8.5, might be a problem...

The guy is telling me a 40,41, or 42 is all he has barrels for, unless I pay for a custom one off barrel...

So the the 40-42mm won't work...

I guess the search continues...

I am glad he never painted the centers, that would have been a expensive mistake!

Naw I don't think you would eliminate the rubbing totally without some modification to the rear fender on a 42offset.

If you're spending over $700 a wheel and not being able to customize the offset to whatever you want, you need to look at a different wheel. There's a few out there close to that price per/wheel that will give you a custom offset.....MOZ wheels is one of them. Check out superbuytires.com or customwheelsdirect.com

Also there is a one piece wheel that comes in a 20x8.5 with a 48mm offset.

uh yeah flat face wheels may be nice and all but seriously you claim bearings wearing out? who has had to replace there bearings becuse changeing there offset by 10mm, i run a 35mm offset with extremely wide rims and have not on single issue with brakes, bearings suspension tire wear, not anything.
oh and i am talking about Darth raider not the threader

the tires are 275/35/r20

Beanz...you got a 2007 bro! of course you don't have any issues with bearings yet.

All we're saying is that with such a wide tire and low offset you will "prematurely" wear out your bearings.....you don't really have a 35mm offset when you factor in how wide your rims are. If you ran the same width rim & size tire as stock, you'd have a 35offset.....with what you got you're def. somewhere in the high 20's.

Run what you like, just know that parts will wear faster with what you got. Hate the message not the messenger

Hey beanz8spun, what size wheel and offset is that???

I just ran into a guy here in houston with a orange "e" and he was rolling 18x9.5 with a 40mm offset, it stuck out like 1"-1.5" but it looked SIIICCCCKKKKK!!!!!!

It was also slammed...

I gotta get a picture next time!

Could I run an 18x9.5 with a 40 offset on 245/45R18???

Check post #16 G-note he's running a 35mm offset.

How did this orange E eliminate the rubbing in the back with the wheels sticking out so much? (or didn't he?)

well anything is possible, you just have to rememer to think on how much of the wheel will be centered in the wheel well. i went with 35mm because i was adding 2 inches to the rim width. but the nine 1/2 with 40mm, plus sticking out like an inch, i would almost put money hed had adapters or spacer, because mine dont even stickout a inchand i have a .5 inch on him plus the 5mm +offset. think whith a ten inch wide rim with 35 is about as wide as you can go inward with the rim. i think i have an inch and that is giving it some, in theback clearance from the fender well where the spring is.with the 40 with the 9 1/2 i would almost be sure you would rub the inside wall, plus tire play a big role in weither or not it will work or not. my 275's are stretched a little but my tread is still under the fender. i like the streched look since i cam,e back from japan.

Ok, so lets say I want to roll a 18x9.5 with a 40mm offset where can I expect rubbing issues?

Also what size tire would I need to run to help clear them...

beanz8spun
06-11-2008, 12:28 PM
you might can fit it with no problem on the inside, as far as the tire i am not sure. it just depends on how thick and wide you want it. i have twenty's, so th only 18's that i know is on the stock wheels. but i doubt you need to go as wide as 275. but i am curious do you like 18's oris your e lowered. because i got my whole set for 2000, that is rim and tires.

G-NOTE!!!! you were the guy i stopped at walgreens for right? im pretty sure, cause you told me bout your wife's RL and lookin for wheels.

question: are the offsets suppose to be the same on the SC or different?

G-NOTE
07-03-2008, 07:48 AM
Yeah thats me...

The offsets seem to be the same on the SC vs EX,LX...

There has been a change in plans on the wheels....

She wants something with NO LIP...LOL can you belive that!!!

So I found her these MRR HR-1 wheels, they look very JDM to me and not really my style, but the wheels are only $400 each on the plus side!!!
