: Best sounding sub in OE Location ?

I have read all the threads in the past and they dont really go into much detail on any particular setup. Many of the threads are a bit outdated and the information is no longer current. I hate to beat a dead dog...

I'm looking to upgrade my system in my E, but like many others I would love to keep my cargo area. And leaning towards upgrading the factory sub.

Ive noticed that the more popular setups are the Elemental Designs 7" and a JL audio 6".

Are ther any other setups ? How about a JL 8" ? New Kickers ?

I know that you most likely want to purchase a sub for the OEM location...but I just ordered the JL Audio Stealth Box for the E. It replaces the entire OEM console for the woofer with a downfiring 10" woofer.

Of course...you must run an aftermarket amplifier.

yeah that must sound really good. Most of the JL audio stealth boxes sound great. Unfortunate for me, I have an SC and they dont make a box because of the center counsel. JL Audio makes a really good product, On the other hand, I am not familiar with Elemental Design at all.
From the guys who are using the ED, how good does it really sound ? Or is it just an improvement from the OE setup ?

It retalis for $499.00...but I have a buddy that owns his own stereo shop so I got it for cost.

I guess I kinda cheated because most people would not spend that kind of Loot on something like that.

some people spend money on crack...I spend mine on stereo equipment.:|

If your getting lazy, why not start with the LX storage box and do a build out from that. It'll save you a bunch of time getting it to line up with the dash, and they are cheep, and you could build it out for a 10" easy. Just a thought. Drew:)

Nice link there. I have heard about the stealth box, but did not know they had an E specific model. What amp are you planning on purchasing and where are you looking to mount it? Under driver or passenger seat? Would love to see some install pics, and let me know how it sounds!

Also looks like my OEM car mats won't fit around that!

I'm doing a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound system in the E using all JL Audio Equipment. I'm using the Stealth box woofer for the front, and a 10" Woofer in the rear. (taking one of the storage consoles out)

I''l post pics when I'm done. The install starts next week.
