Bummer, I'm all for Texas! Especially San Antonio, but Atlas (180lbs Old English Mastiff) would drop dead on me from the humidity alone.

This is actually a good idea--if Honda would catch a clue about properly marketing the Element.

I was at a dog show up in Seattle a few years back. A dreary February day outside, so lots of folks happy to come see the dogs inside. Right in the middle of this place MAZDA had set up 3 or 4 of their vehicles on display. All the dog folks were checking them out to see how many crates would fit.

I thought it was great marketing. These Mazda folks had virtually a captive audience and they were the ONLY ONES THERE.

Now if Honda did that, folks could see what a REAL dog-haulin' machine looks like.

hmmmm..... where is the nxt dog show?

National Meet for the Saint Bernard Club of America (Saint Bernards of course) in September 8-13th in Asheville NC.

Info is here (http://www.2008sbcanational.com/). Granted it's not a 'dog show' exactly, but hey, I'll be there...

We could try this in the fall after it cools off enough for the big guys.
I want to turn Atlas, Boomer ,and Sam loose and just stand back and let the wrestling begin.
I feel the earth move under my feet the sky come tumbling down...

My daughter took her labs down there for a week (or was it a weekend?) She was really happy with it. I'll get more info from her and report back.

You do know this is just up the road from me, right?

So, you guys really do need to check the website out, this place rocks. I'm going to try and actually get over that way and do some onsite recon.

We should do this, the activities they have going on are awesome. What about maybe November? it will be cool then (those of us with big dogs really can't go when it's really hot out). The camp is open this year till the end of November.

Dear parents, grand parents, single moms and dads, aunts, uncles etc.
1. We are not a traditional “family campground” and we are not catering to families and/or campers with kids. We are very upfront about that and even write about it in our brochures and in our HELP section of our website. Four Paws Kingdom was designed as a safe and enjoyable place for all people who want to camp, play, hike, train or relax with their dogs. We do not advertise or market ourselves as a “Family Campground”, we always were and still are the first and only dog dedicated campground in the US and that’s what our guests love about us.

2. All of our amenities and activities are specifically geared towards an adult target group. Scheduled events (whether for fun or sports) as well as functions (potlucks, catered dinners, quizzes, seminars, training sessions etc.) are directed towards a mature audience.

3. No guests under the age of 18 are allowed to stay on and/or visit our tent sites.
4. Four Paws Kingdom caters to adults and their canine companions.

We also welcome young adults, 14 years or older (when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian) as well as infants and toddlers up to 2 years of age.

Sadly, this restriction may affect your decision:
4pawskingdom rules (http://www.4pawskingdom.com/rules.html)

Insurance regulations prohibit us from accommodating a limited number of breeds. We apologize for this measure. We know that these breeds are often part of your family and can be the kindest and friendliest dogs around, but the insurance industry makes the rules and we have to follow these rules to obtain liability insurance and stay in business (after all, we are a one-of-a-kind niche business).

We apologize to the owners of the following breeds/mixes:
Rottweilers, Bull Terrier and Miniature Bull Terrier, American Pitbull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier (Amstaff) and Pitbull Mixes.

OK it's time to get this thread going again. Considering the 2009 EOC International Meet is going with a little different format this idea would work great.

We need to determine a location - I'm guessing say Virginia or points further North considering it's the last weekend in June. The weather down this way would be in the mid 90's or higher - way too hot for the large breed dogs to be out all day - much less a weekend.

Anyway, if we start now, we can make this happen for the ones that want to join the other 'crazy dog people' for the first ever "International Honda Element Owner's Club Meet - The Dog Lovers Edition" :)

So who knows a great place to camp, with large, medium, and small dogs?

Other things we need to do

come up with dog friendly activities -

a dog show?
talent contest?
owner / dog look-alike contest?
what other idea do you have?

Doggie BBQ / camping.....(optional tent or in rooms)
How about a doggie clown?

And we can probably make up some adventures like this website:

bump..... whats the status on this, should we rediscuss this come january if interested?

It doesn't look like there's a lot of interest really. :-( maybe we should bring it back up after Christmas and New Years, at least give it one more chance before letting the idea just die a slow death....

The best I can figure there's only about three or four of us that are really that interested in the idea anyway.

dont be depressed about it....small events have their fun too! even if we get a few people + dogs get-together it would be great. even better, its easier to manage!

That's true, last I talked to dog drool, she was thinking of a more Northern location (say Northern Virginia Mountains at least) or points further North. If we do this for the 'national' meet time frame - late June would be way too hot for the big dogs down south.

Well, too hot if we wanted to do anything other than lay in a creek all day...

We'll see where it goes...

sounds like several people will be bringing dogs to the Mid-Atlantic meet.... perhaps other people wanting dog meet (myself included) be interested in that meet?
